The whole purpose of that grab handle IS to help with ingress. I'm 5'6" and 72 years old and have NO problem getting in my WK2. My wife, who is 5'2" and has extremely short legs. has a bit more trouble, but still manages just fine. Try grabbing the handle with your left hand, stepping in with your LEFT foot first. Helps me. I love my Grand for cross county trips and, since it's an SRT, find the power to be very useful, especially when at higher altitudes.

This is the Limited Edition of the car, which is the second one from the bottom. You also need to toggle up and down on the LCD screen in the middle to see more of the cool stuff. I really think that a 2-3K higher price range would have been worthwhile for the upgrade to the higher level of luxury. By the way that is real wood man. This not a Hyundai. I personally drive an Overland myself and I thank myself for the gift every day. Worth every penny. Enjoy your family Jeep PS: Good effort on the video.

I have this vehicle as well. I'm 6'4 and fit comfortably in it. It really is a very nice riding SUV and with a couple of huge snowstorms in Colorado, it performed excellently. I"m not a fan of the shifter and it takes time to get used to. But the only thing I don't like much is the little gear shifts on the steering wheel. It puts you into the gear your in and won't automatically change. This can be useful at times but its to easy to bump it and turn that feature on, and if you have to specifically know how to turn that feature back off. Otherwise I think this is the best SUV on the road, and I've driven a lot of them.

It's a Jeep, I know most will never be taken off road but this SUV can actually do a pretty good job off road and low profile tires would ruin that ability.
@desertpair28 жыл бұрын
Technically, Flatline, you're wrong. That's because the JGC defies categories. It is a crossover because it is unibody . . . but it's an SUV because, properly equipped (which this one clearly is NOT), it is quite off-road capable. And RomaBoy, my WK2 is not about fast lane changes. That's why I have a GT500 Shelby/Mustang. It's a Jeep, for God's sake, not a sports car.

Just an FYI---The limited is the 2nd out of 5 trim levels. Also, you can get rain sensing wipers on the limited with the LUX 2 package. Usually limited models come with a standard sunroof unless dealer orders it without sunroof. The only grand Cherokee that comes with out a sun roof standard is the Laredo.
@nathantegtmeyer18458 жыл бұрын
+pdgable The Cherokee is able to have features as that because it has electronic power steering. The grand Cherokee does not. The lux 2 package for the grand Cherokee however includes QL which is the air suspension. If you actually think about that system alone and all that's involved with it $4200 isn't so bad considering you're getting all the other features.

Well Peter, I have the rain sensing option, and the auto-dimming feature on the headlights on my RAM 1500..same technology as all the rest of the Fiat/Chrysler/Ram similarly equipped vehicles...and, they clearly do not stack up to the competition. The rain sensors detect rain...sometimes..well, always, but way too late..depending on it's mood. Ditto for the auto-dimming headlights...sometimes yes, sometimes you get a "reminder" from oncoming traffic. If you have reflective road signs in the countryside...where it is very dark, with lots of critters that like to do the "death dash" you need to pay attention...they do not always flip to high when you most need them, and are forced to pull the lever back and force and hold it to stay on high. I am pretty sure, that if you are not sure when it's raining, you need your licensed revoked..not you Peter, just in general. Ditto for High beams...nice Idea, but I sincerely hope, people are not SO distracted they can't manualy activate wipers or high beams. Uconnect tip of the day...if you have an iPhone..not sure how many versions this works with..but mine is a 6...Siri will work while driving...compose, send, reply to emails and texts...while driving, hands free..not touching anything or taking eyes off the road. You MUST have your phone plugged in via the USB port...then this works. To compose a text or email, just say "hey Siri"..and your command..." Hey Siri, Email *****" it will prompt "what do you want to say?" ..well you get the idea ..just listen and talk.
@dannybumpkins5568 жыл бұрын
+pdgable Maybe...I had it in for its' oil change, and mentioned it, and they told me "ya, it's not 100% accurate 100% of the time. " Yes, they DO work...but perhaps its/ the hight of the RAM vs other vehicles, and maybe the windshield angle as well? Who knows lol. If it suddenly starts raining...They work as advertised...steady rain...sure....but it's the misty, start, then stop stuff that fools them some times. If they came on exactly at the same time I typically activate them manually, I'd not notice it. Maybe I'm just picky, and too quick on the "trigger"? :-) Anyway all good! :-)

We have a 2013 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk with the 5.7 Hemi and love it! I liked the 2011-2013 model's grille more. Looked more masculine and didn't look like a Jeep Compass' grille. The taillights on the 2011-2013 model had a point on their ends that made it look more mean in the back. The rims are small because it's an off-road vehicle, and you can damage larger rims if you take it out to rocks that squeeze the tire too much (you usually deflate tires a bit for better traction off-road too). I do like the interior more on yours though. The 2011-2013 interior looked like it can use more style, but I still like it!

I'm 6'1" tall, and getting in and out is one of the best things about my new 2018 G.C. Limited. I don't even have to adjust the steering wheel down. Just lift your right foot and slide your right knee under the wheel, duck your head a bit, and the rest is automatic. And the door hinge has two detents before you get to full open--I can get in and out--keeping my Stetson hat on--when parked next to the garage wall with the door open only to the first detent--and not worry about it swinging in on me and crushing my shinbone. Plus this car is the first I have found in at least ten years of car shopping and driving rent cars that doesn't bang both my knees when driving, causing serious pain. They scooped out some space on the center console to give knee room, and on the left, the arm rest hits me painlessly on the fleshy part of my thigh, just above the knee bone. The gear shifter that he complains about has a new design now so it moves in the conventional way, unless you slide it left and drive in "manual shift" mode. Rain-sensing wipers? Who needs 'em? But I think they are available now on the G.C. Limited. I haven't tried the "voice recognition" yet, but I appreciate his demo of it. I want to learn the old fashioned stuff first. My first car was a '54 Chevy Bel Air; first "new" car a '65 Pontiac LeMans. ☺

Well, I'm amazed at this review, because I think there's so much wrong. I bought a 2016, also a Limited version, which has eliminated that stupid shifter which was really just a gimmick and FCA got caught on it. However, calling out the 18-inch wheels (and their somewhat higher profile tires) fails to acknowledge that this vehicle is in its concept an OFF-ROAD vehicle made more civilized in an attempt to compromise between off-road ability and on-road competence. 18-inch wheels are the correct size for this vehicle (although on mind, I have the slightly more aggressive off-road tread Goodyear Wranglers). Anything larger than 18s, and you are just looking at big shiny wheels. Both comfort AND off-road ability suffer. Plus, this is a bad example of how to equip a Grand Cherokee. In the first place, there are at least two trim levels higher than the Limited: the Overland and the Summit, not to mention the SRT. Why ANYBODY would opt for a Jeep and not go with 4X4 is beyond me. It's a Jeep. Mine is, I think, properly equipped: diesel engine (WOW, is it superior!), Quadra-Drive, Quadra-Trac and Quadra-Lift. The Quadra-Lift not only solves the Entry issue, but it allows for a lot of extra ground clearance, with five heights: Entry/Edit, Normal Ride Height, Off-Road 1 and Off-Road 2. Plus, there's Aero mode which is automatically selected at highway speeds. I wouldn't like that Grand Cherokee in the review, because it seems to me that is not much more than a standard crossover . . . so it's not really a Jeep. It's a JINO (Jeep In Name Only).
@petervonpanda8 жыл бұрын

I'm purchasing a 2017 4x2 V6 Overland. I'm not spending the extra money on 4x4 as I don't need it. This will be a city driven vehicle. Why pay 3k more for something I don't need, nor will ever use? Regarding the diesel, again why should I pay $4,500 more for something I don't need? The payback in the fuel savings is nil. Long before I will ever see a payback, this Jeep will be long gone. I'm not towing anything, so again, the V6 is more than adequate. Besides, I actually test drove the diesel and found it far less refined than the V6 model. Now the Hemi 5.7 is a worthy option, as it is even more refined than the V6. But, I don't really need the extra power, and I don't want the mpg penalty. I have a sports car for weekend driving, so that will fulfill my need for speed. This vehicle will be driven like a granny. So, these are my reasons as to why I'm choosing a 4x2 w/V6.I will say, however, I wish Jeep gave the option of being able to have the Quadra-lift air suspension on non 4x4 models. That is one feature of the 4x4 that I will miss.

Ok. I have this exact same Jeep but w/ a few extra options and Charcoal interior. I love the car, I drove Ford for the last 15yrs and no longer found the SUV's to be off-road worthy. I have different wheels that actually fill the space, plus a winter set that really make it look Beefy. The only thing I would've liked is the Diesel engine, and I honestly don't see how Jeep justifies the 4k increase when you can get a Chevy Cruise Diesel for 1/2 the price. Right now I'm loving the "SNOW" mode, it's a shit show in SE Michigan. I think I'll stick w/ Jeep for a while, hopefully the next lease will be the Wrangler w/ the 8sp trans and Diesel.
@desertpair28 жыл бұрын
You don't understand how Jeep justifies the 4k increase (for the diesel) because you don't own one. I do. WELL worth it! P.S. The idea with tires is not to "actually fill the space." There are other considerations.
@The305Garage8 жыл бұрын
Only worth it if you tow, or drive long distances often, and want minimal fuel stops along the way. Otherwise, it's a big waste of money, and a notch down on refinement over the V6 or V8. Yes, I have driven all. IMO, the V6 is more than adequate for this vehicle. Hence my choice for a 17 Overland 4x2 V6. I don't see any other reason that justifies paying $4,500 more for the diesel. And don't tell me fuel savings, as that is nil, and would take well over 10 years to payback. I won't be keeping this vehicle 10 years.

I have had multiple transmission problems with my 2015. This seems to be a common issue with these vehicles. I have owned mine for 18 months and it has less than 12,000 miles on it. The latest fix was to replace the entire transmission. Buyer Be Ware!!!!

Funny you compare this to the BMW X5. I just traded in my X5 for the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. One big question: how do you turn OFF the radio? The button only mutes it, eventually the damn thing comes back on - again & again & again. I DO NOT LISTEN TO A RADIO when I drive. Help!!

To avoid the radio (FM, AM or Satellite) just select media and then any other screen menu.

I have a Lincoln that has the capless gas tank. Yeah, it's convenient, but honestly I'd rather just have a simple cap. Why overcomplicate such a simple thing, adding one more thing that can eventually fail?

That is a stupid dislike that the step in is too high. What do u want the truck to be lower because it is low enough. If anything it need a lift. It's a Jeep. Buy a compass if you want a low step in.

Hey, thanks for the review. You should have spent a couple of bucks more in order to get the "Overland" which gives you some more gimmicks including the great two tone 20 inch alloys. Had to make the choice between an X5, Q7, GLE or the GC. Opted for the GC in the end because of the added value and the similar prices of the four here in Europe. And btw. it is one of the last real SUVs left because so many other follow the Lexus and design their former SUVs as Crossovers which I personally never liked. Have a look at the new Q7 which looks more like an pumped up station waggon now. One additional aspect of the GC is the offroad capability which is unbeaten and not to forget ... it´s got a footprint. Best regards from Germany. Mike

Very hardy SUV and reliable !! I have a request if you are in contact with representatives of a Jeep, then tell them for Russia they made the most reliable jeep! There is one Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2013 with a 3.6 engine, it has a mileage of almost 800,000 thousand kilometers or 497,096,954 thousand miles !! Not a problem except a broken gearbox !!

Nice all round review Peter. I'm thinking of getting one of these myself. I agree that the wood trim would probably look better in a lighter tone of Oak, but it still looks pretty good as is. In regards to the problem with the for the navigation system, maybe you could try giving the command of: Navigate, then just say the house number and drop the "Navigate to". I think you stated the computer might consider the word "to" as a number which is entirely possible. Like I said though, really nice review. Cheers!

They make model "packages" to help keep the cost down so people who don't want/need or maybe can't afford those EXTRA's can still afford to purchase this vehicle. So buying a particular model and complaining that you aren't getting features from the next model up is a little childish. I did however learn about the reclining rear row seat from your video *thumbs up.

Reviews of this review and things he forgot...18" Tires and the extra "rubber" is fine. If you want low profile tires or a Jeep for speed, get the SRT8. For the suspension that comes with the Limited, you need the "extra rubber". Function trumps aesthetics! On the opposite end, the "squinty" headlights DO NOT equal to better Night Time DRIVING. Give me brighter lamps or bigger lights. I also have the towing package so that "might" affect the ingress/egress of the vehicle, but I'm under 6' and have no problem getting in/out of it. I do agree that the limited should've at least had certain features like the lane detection mirrors, but I'm sure FCA packaged that with the Adaptive Cruise Control and other things on purpose for a higher sell. The SHIFTER...SMH. With the recall and the way technology is going, "Shift-by-wire... joystick... whatever" is here to stay. The mechanism does take some getting use to IF you are an older driver who likes to feel the gears engaged. After a year driving, some things you missed that a potential driver should note are the following:This vehicle is MORE computerized than some would like. Touch screens, LCDs, etc. You can dim the screen, but you essentially have to have it on which can be a distraction for some. Scarier still is that some of the functions don't have manual backups - Heated Seats for example.Speaking of computerized... Uconnect. Lots of hits and misses with it. Although Voice Recognition with of the Uconnect (tm) system was mentioned, the system itself can be off-putting. Numbers must be spoken individually. Whereas you would say 1340 as "thirteen forty", the only way to get true accuracy is saying "one three four zero". Also, cities that have N, S, E, W or NE, NW, SE, SW added to the street addresses, good luck trying to get the Voice Recognition to interpret that correctly. Have too many examples of me arguing with the GPS about a street. LOL. One more thing of note, the Speech-to-Text option sounds great for Hands Free Texting. However, it is given for 1 year free and always adds as a tagline "sent from Uconnect..." to each text message like an ad. There is no way to remove this even by paying for it (except hacking which I will not discuss here. LOL).GPS - Besides speech issues at times, the interface for the GPS though (Garmin Based) is not as intuitive. Couple that with balancing "her" voice volume with the radio, and you have a challenge. Car will horn will beep and lights will flash if you leave your keys in your car! I don't know who created this feature or how many vehicles have this, but this is cool. With the keyless entry and proximity technology, the vehicle KNOWS what keys you are using and where you are in proximity of it. "FOB is outside of the vehicle" messages, etc.

Stupid & asinine location for putting a acid lead battery underneath the passenger seat instead in the engine bay where they should be. Also the damn engineers should've installed a manual key/ignition as well. Key is useless if there's no ignition.
