Lgbtq+ history is something me and my friends are fighting to get it taught in my school. School keeps shutting us down but it hasn't stop us we actually are fighting for more lgbtq+ equality in our School right now even if its summer

😭😭😭this is everything. I'm an enby historian (in training) so I've read a handful of these books, they're all so so good but also just a lot to take in. A few years ago I met the author of Lou Sullivan's biography and he signed my copy of the book!! Genuinely, he is so nice and put so much love & care into Lou's story. Trans history, and especially nonbinary history, directly intersects with the history of colonialism in a way that's really difficult to...untangle (not the word i'm looking for but hhh brain fart), if you even can at all. Gimme like 50 years to complete a phd and I'll get back to you 😂

Happy Pride! This is a great list! Some nonbinary recs I would add: - Gender Outlaw by Kate Bornstein (I consider this one nonbinary-adjacent since she makes a lot of points that resonate with me as a nonbinary person; also, her gender workbook is on my TBR right now) - How to be You by Jeffrey Marsh (I'm kind of in love with interactive workbook-style things like this)

I'm definitely going to look into a few of these books! Also, for anyone who wants to learn LGBT history but might not have the time or access to these books- looking into podcasts could be a really good resource. I'd recommend "Making Gay History", which is very well researched with a lot of interviews, and "Always Here: An LGBT History podcast", which is more conversational but still informative. They both cover both gay and trans history, but if anyone has any recommendations for just transgender history I'd love to hear them.

Non-binary non-fiction books I like - A Quick & Easy Guide to They/Them Pronouns by Archie Bongiovanni, No House to Call My Home: Love, Family, and Other Transgressions by Ryan Berg, and Beyond Magenta: Transgender Teens Speak Out by Susan Kuklin. I'd add fiction, but this video was about non-fiction so I thought to leave fiction out.

I suggest the biography of Joan of Arc in The Great Lives Series by Mary Gordon. Joan was seen as transgressive at the time but she wore soldier's clothing to protect her virginity in the midst of the all male army she was leading. She did not dress as a man out of a desire to be man.

I love your book recommendations! Whipping Girl taught me so much 🙂 Thanks for that one! One of the best books I've read is Descent of Man, by NB sculptor Grayson Perry. It's semi autobiographical, a bit manifesto-y, and is so insightful about the way we raise AMAB kids, and the effect this has on all of them. If I could make 1 book compulsory reading for 10-13 year olds, it would be this

Yay happy pride month!!!! But my mom signed me up for an all girls camp that last five years for all of summer right after I told her I'm trans :( I might just be being my very emotional self right now but I'm crying. None of my friends believe I'm trans (like a few do ?) my mom does not believe I'm trans because I used to wear pink dresses when I was five (she thinks) but what I remember is I only would wear sweat pants and long shorts when I could dress myself. Also I comment and complaint in the comment section a lot it's probably really annoying sorry for that or maybe you don't even notice I do idk Are complaining comments annoying? 🌮

A book I recently read and definitely recommend is "Self Organising Men" - it's an anthology and it looks at how various trans men have experienced and grappled with their masculinity. I'm lending my gender therapist a copy because she won't let me start T until I come to terms with the possibility that I may end up cis-passing (I'm non-binary)

"Trap Door: Trans Cultural Production and the Politics of Visibility" is a good anthology mostly focusing on transfeminine people of colour (though there are transmasc writers in there too) in the USA over the past 60-70 years. Skews academic, but incredible and powerful nonetheless. Has excerpts by Miss Major and Cece McDonald as well as dozens more 🏵️🏵️

I've read a few books that claim to be about non binary gender people but they tend to be about binary trans people in non western societies. I've been searching for a story about someone like me - A non binary trans feminine person who to reduce dysphoria needs to appear as a bit of both genders at all times. Presenting as a Bearded Lady seems an almost impossible task. I Hope to find someone like me. Either in story form or a real person the gender Outlaw books are pretty cool for non binary people but I don't remember much of those books.

Hey Jackson. I recently learned that one of my family members was gender fluid, and I don't have time nor energy to sit down with them and ask them about it, so I thought I'd ask you instead. When I think of personal gender, I think of seperation from your assigned gender. You are in a sense, not your original gender, right? My question is, why? Why, when you look at a woman, do you have to see a certain behavior type? And why, when I call myself a man, can I not put on a pretty dress and lipgloss? My question is basically, why did we choose to seperate into tons of genders, instead of just expanding what it means to be a man or woman? Is it really said by gender-positive communities that men and women have a set way of behavior? Masculine for men and feminine for women? Because I find that kind of limiting. I'm a man, but I'm not very convential. I get very emotional, love snuggling teddy bears, and I love cleaning the house and being the little spoon. So why can't that be part of being a man? Why must people seperate themselves from men when they behave in a-typical ways? I still consider myself a man, just not hyper-masculine. Do you think that in a sense, calling any deviation from convential man behavior a seperate gender, is kind of rude to CIS-gendered people? That's like saying that just because they don't conform to the large group's behavior, they can't be part of the large group anymore. Or are you comfortable with two people from different genders behaving in completely similar ways? If so, what then seperates them?
