I show what exactly I eat in a day to keep my blood sugar low. What I typically do from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to bed and what tools I use to keep my blood glucose in the optimal range.
If you are an insulin dependent diabetic this is a must watch video for you. We all struggle with managing blood sugar levels and I'm sure you will be able to relate with the challenges I deal with throughout my day as a person living with diabetes.
Check out Gvoke HypoPen® at the following secure link bit.ly/3LRnWUn
GVOKE is a prescription medicine used to treat very low blood sugar (severe hypoglycemia) in adults and kids with diabetes ages 2 year and above. It is not known if GVOKE is safe and effective in children under 2 years of age.
Do not use GVOKE if: you have a tumor in the gland on top of your kidneys (adrenal gland) called a pheochromocytoma, as it may cause a substantial increase in high blood pressure; you have a tumor in your pancreas called an insulinoma, as it may cause low blood sugar; or if you are allergic to glucagon or any other inactive ingredient in GVOKE.
GVOKE may cause other serious side effects, such as: Serious skin rash -- GVOKE can cause a serious skin rash in certain people with a tumor in their pancreas called glucagonoma; Serious allergic reaction -- Call your doctor or get medical help right away if you have a serious allergic reaction including rash, difficulty breathing, low blood pressure.

Great video. I am also T1D. Really good to show people around you how to use the hypo pen, and to have one that doesn’t need to be set up with a separate needle/syringe. The dinner meal suggestion looks great. I made kitchari with zucchini the other day and it worked surprisingly well for my blood sugar!

Great Video, Tom. However, maybe you should've explained that it's ok to have spikes (example 180-220 mg/dl)1 hour after meals. Important is that it comes back to the normal range (80-130 mg/dl) 1-2 hours after after the meals. Some people who are new to T1D, but couldn't afford a life style like yours might get upset thinking that this is how they have to maintain their blood sugar levels. It's not a criticism, just a suggestion. Thanks for your great videos 🙂

Agreed! This video is so helpful but as someone who got diagnosed with t1d 6 months go I kinda panicked when watching this haha. My BG goes up to 180/200 after meals relatively often. 😢 but Tom does explain really well how to measure/time things and control BG’s through balanced diets which is superrr helpful to me. I don’t have a pump, but I do have a CGM and it’s so helpful for seeing these trends.

@@hannahwhisenant7007 I was diagnosed 2 years ago after turning 30 and use CGM + MDI (no pump). Don't worry, those spikes are normal. However, pre bolusing helps me control the spikes. I don't have to pre bolus for fiber rich food. However, if I am eating carbs with high Glycemic Index, I usually inject 20 minutes before eating. We have to find the right method for our body. Elliptical or cross trainer helps me lower my blood sugar within 5 mins. Don't worry, you'll learn more as you proceed. Good luck 😊

If your blood glucose rises above 140 your eating the wrong meals. Try meat, no carbs, no sugar. Your health will improve and youll need only a fraction of the insulin you use now. Not a good video, Tom unfortunately will not eat a proper diet for any diabetic. He like most people is addicted to carbs and his a1c reflects that. Very sad, such a nice guy.

That’s mega control 👌🏼 Over here 🇬🇧 unless you’re in a city you can’t really get food like you had for your lunch. The recipe for your dinner I’m definitely going to try. I have cereal for breakfast and have just switched to skimmed milk, my spike is less high than with semi-skimmed. I’m not on a pump and basal dose in the morning. Would you recommend splitting my dose throughout the day instead ? It’s just with what you said about your pump. I thought about a pump but in my job i could easily catch it and pull it out. Thankfully I have an active job so I get exercise throughout the day. T1 me.

Hello, I’ve got one question. How long does it took to switch from Low Carb to High Carb and was it hard? I come from keto diet and I am psychological sick of eating meat and I’ve got the same situation where I also physically burned out. I tried HCLF a few weeks ago. It was sometimes ok, but sometimes it wasn‘t ok. Even on day 10 I‘ve got such a brain fog after breakfast. Lunch was sometimes ok, dinner after a day of activities was also ok. But I‘ve lost all of my endurance and fitness. Did you experience the same in the first two weeks? Is it normal after ending keto?

I will begin to binge watch you now. I have been a type 1 only 10 years. Diagnosed first as a type 2 for a bit just because of my age. I went to a new Dr, an endocrinologist and she did the lab work and my pancreas makes very little insulin anymore. So I use a tslim pump with the Control IQ and I have a dexcom G6. I am so thankful for the technology offered now. It saves my life everyday. But I can learn lots from you I am sure Have good day. And thanks again 😊

I am not diabetic but I had some considerable insulin insensitivity (no longer) and I wear CGM to conduct experiments on myself. On days I am in keto or fasting I eat zero carbs for any practical purpose. Body can create enough sugar on its own to sustain itself. My blood sugar remains pretty much constant. On days I eat carbs I noticed that the way you incorporate carbs into your diet will very highly influence the effect on blood sugar. Eating/drinking naked sugars in the morning is pretty much the worst thing you can do -- blood sugar spikes immediately. I can 300g of carbs (carbs, not food containing carbs) and I get only 1/3rd of the blood sugar increase as eating a handful of grapes. For example, I can eat 300g of sourdough bread and large portion of hummus containing as much carbs and it does not register much. The secret? I eat some cheese (protein+fats). There is also lot of olive oil in the hummus and there is a lot of lemon juice. Protein, fats and acids each separately have effect of blunting the sugar spike and giving body plenty of time to process it.

You're like me. I've noticed that adding BUTTER kills the spike. I eat hardboiled eggs with Ezekial toast every morning and barely spike more than 20-30 points. However, I slather on the butter.

You understand health well. The poster on the other hand is eating like a person on their way to diabetic II, ironic to say the least. He's eating too many meals with snacks and compensating by insulin pumps. He would be better of being mostly in deep ketosis with no snacks and only 2 meals a day that are rich in fat and moderate protein. The protein and mainly the fat will buffer against the insulin spike from the carbs he consumes. He is also combing carbs are high glycemic index and without a buffer, the combine will spike insulin. Grains and legumes are not only high carb but mostly GMO and even if they are not, they would need to be sprouted or germinated before consumption, otherwise your insulin will spike. The reason why that remote island he references were seeing success on that supposed diet is because they likely do exactly that, germinate their beans and stuff. Essentially on a macro level, ALL CARBS consumed are an INDULGENCE, there are no essential carbs, your body can make carbs as it needs. So any carbs I consume I'm conscientiously aware of what I'm doing. As a type I, I would NOT subject my self to having to pump myself extra insulin so I can indulge. Also no reason why your min blood sugars need to be in the 80s, mine go as low as 50-60s when I'm in ketosis. Thats perfectly fine if your diet is low carb and if you are intentional and savvy about your carbs (like eat your apricots with pecans and drink ACV w/ water) during consumption to almost eliminate the insulin spike. Along with consuming electrolytes to regulate your potassium/sodium pump. Checkout my profile, I have a public playlist called "Health 101". Its everything I gathered on the topic of health. Best of luck

@@HomesteadAce I am actually writing a book on weight loss. For the last year I spent considerable time researching health topics to lose weight, get in shape and get healthy and I feel I learned things I need to share for the greater good of society. I found that what doctors and media say is pretty much exactly the opposite from what people should be doing. And I am convinced the same also is true for dealing with diabetes, to some extent. Regulating sugar by drinking orange syrup and eating fruity, sweetened deserts every time your blood sugar starts dropping is like driving to work by pressing gas pedal to the metal every time your car starts slowing down too much. It does not make any logical sense and IMO is actually harmful. You may be regulating your speed between 20 and 40mph by constantly pushing your gas pedal and then releasing it, but that does not mean you are driving well. Also, our bodies are built to get better by getting stressed. You will not run a marathon first time you start running and you will not lift heaviest weights. But if you keep stressing your body regularly you will get better at it. In case of diabetes, our bodies are made to starve a little bit regularly. Our blood sugar is meant to drop and our bodies are meant to respond by producing sugars (gluconeogenesis). If you keep shoveling sugars into your body all day and night you prevent your body from getting good at producing sugars and in efect it gets worse at producing sugars to the point where you are completely reliant on supplementing it or you get into hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia is not a state where you have low blood sugar level. It is a state where your body is addicted to sugar and your body has low blood sugar. In a healthy person that is not addicted to sugar, low sugar level is just a signal for the body to switch to burning fats and to start producing sugars to regulate them, that's all. Nothing bad happens. Healthy people have two mechanisms to regulate blood sugar: we produce insulin to lower sugar and we can produce sugar if the level is two low. If you are type 1 and you can't produce insulin you better take care about the other mechanism for sugar regulation because otherwise you will be completely dependant on food dosing for the rest of your life. Which is exactly what the video is trying to demonstrate -- how to keep being reliant on putting food into your mouth to keep your blood sugar in check. The guy might be doing good job keeping his speed but the he ain't driving well.

@@leonardmilcin7798 you are on point on everything. I would just highlight that its not JUST about weight-loss but lifelong health and longevity. Its "Get healthy to lose weight, not lose weight to get healthy. Concepts like intermittent and prolonged fasting are also important to allow the digestive system to clear out and more importantly to reap the benefits of Autophagy. Also making sure you are hitting your micros RDAs or specific targets you are trying to achieve. I do this by logging everything I eat and basically east the same things daily as I have optimized for it. Its really a science and once you get the hang of it, it's insanely powerful. I wish the poster best of luck but even if he wasn't Type I, he's not doing it right.

I began wearing a CGM recently… after a hot shower, I spike to 195-200 that lasts for 30-60 min. is that normal or is the sensor becoming overheated? my average is normally 125-135 currently.
@EliTriona
@EliTriona Жыл бұрын
Heat from a shower should not typically have any affect on the CGM ability to read accurate numbers. The most typical response I've seen from people, and this includes me, is that a hot shower makes their blood sugar drop, especially if they have insulin on board. The main reasons is because the heat will expand muscle tissue allowing more insulin access to cells faster. That said everyone is different and I have seen others comment that their numbers have gone up, like you are saying. To find out more details you can perform an experiment. Right after you get out of your shower, dry off your hands and check your numbers using a normal finger stick meter, then compare that to your CGM reading. That will give you some insight as to if the CGM is being affected by the shower.
@leonardmilcin7798
@leonardmilcin7798 Жыл бұрын
CGMs are not without faults. For example, right now I inserted my G7 into a muscle on the arm (by accident, and also because I have very little fat on me). My sugar levels drop A LOT when i am swimming, but not during other activities. This is simply explained by the muscle G7 is inserted into being exerted and burning off sugars in it. It then takes a bit of time for the body to supply replacements. Of course, the chemistry may depend on temperature and other circumstances. In general, temperature is one of the most critical factors that affects chemical reactions. But the body is very good at regulating temperature and if it gets just couple more degrees than your normal temperature it means you are in big trouble for other reasons than your blood sugar. If I was you I would try to do independent measurements (with traditional strips), right after getting out of shower and then couple more times during the next hour to check whether the results your CGM is showing are confirmed by blood strips or are just an artifact of the measurement method. Anyway, if you are diabetic you should have at least one other blood sugar measurement method on hand. If your primary method gives you results inconsistent with your experience (ideally you should be able to roughly predict your sugar levels based on what you are doing and what you ate) you can use the secondary to prevent you from doing something stupid and reacting to incorrectly high measurements with insulin and accidentally getting into hypoglycemia.

I rarely see myself getting up in the 400s I usually hover around the 100-250 range. You also may be in what’s called a honeymoon phase, where ur body is still making some insulin just not enough.
