Roman Around The World I've been to Varkala last week. Your views on veganism and local chocolate noted. I'm studying the prerequisites for a Vegan Eatery in Tamil Nadu.

Snickers in local town.......Globalisation backfires.BTW if you enquire about any coconut oil mill in the area you can buy fresh coconut oil which made from sundried coconuts(kopras). The oil you bought is probably made from machine dried coconuts. Both have different qualities.
@romanlillie6 жыл бұрын
oh that's good to know about the coconut oil. I'll have to ask next time. And yeah, I was really bummed that I couldn't find local chocolate.

I think drinking Coconut water is seasonal the water is better in the rainy season so that might be why they are not selling them. I am just guessing.

200 rupees is too much for lunch even though it's buffet.... normally a meal with all these vegetables and pappadam and other varities would cost from 59-75 rs

ottupura is quite known place. It is a restaurant chain and famous. There are no big Indian chocolate brands. Only artisan home made ones. They are restricted to production area.
@romanlillie6 жыл бұрын
Oh wow. I didn't realize it was a chain of restaurants. Good to know! And too bad about the chocolates. I'd much rather give my money to local businesses and producers of chocolate.

How hard is it to find out if things are vegan? Are food labels easy to read/accurate? I have a severe milk allergy so any little slip-up can kill me. Even in the US, it seems like most people don't really understand the severity. I always wondered if people in other countries would say something is fine just to sell it to me. And they just don't understand the consequences of it. I would love to find vegan chocolates (in India and any country) but I would be sooooo scared to try them. Do you find that most people are honest with ingredients? Are vegans common in India? I just found your channel and I've been binge-watching it. It's soooo much better than the male travelers cause it's much much more relevant. I love that you give tips specifically for women. Thanks, Laura

This looks like such a beautiful town! I haven't heard of it before. How did you plan your trip around the country? Did you have places in mind, or do you just kind of fly by the seat of your pants?

Local chocolate bars do not have advertising to support them just as mentioned by you mason of auroville is popular especially by word of mouth
@romanlillie6 жыл бұрын
Yes. I wish more stores would carry the local brands. If they only sold those and not the snickers I bet people would then buy the local ones to get their chocolate fix.

@NunOnABike6 жыл бұрын
Roman Around The World yes there is oil for sure but I don't think it's a lot in sambar specially. Good dish would use like 2 tsp of oil, if more it doesn't taste right. Depends on the dish/chef.
