After watching these videos for a long time, I finally decided to make one of my own. So here’s what I spend in a week as a 25 year old minimalist (oh, and I’m married, so this is just naturally going to include what my husband spends too 😉)! Hope you enjoy! 🤍

Since the beginning of this year I have been keeping track of EVERY penny I spend per month. Each day I write down what I spent and then total at the end of the month. I categorize my monthly spending by utilities, clothes, food, etc. It is March and I have not given up on it yet. It has helped me because I really take time to think about what I am spending my money on. I have moved away from all the impulse spending and when I take the time to see where my money is going I become aware of waste. It has changed my thoughts about my 💰.

Ashlynne, a lot of people misconstrue minimalism as not spending money at all, but you're clearly valuing experiences (good food, good times with friends) over the more material things, all while paying attention to your expenses, which is a great way to implement a minimalist lifestyle as well. Thank you for this video!

Thanks for doing this video! Talking about finances seems to be so taboo, but I'm always an open book about what I spend and I'm fascinated to see how others prioritize their spending. As a couple in our 40s with no children or pets (we're homeowners that share a car) we budget about $850 for 2 weeks which is almost in line with your expenses. We use that for food, gas, miscellaneous things that come up, etc. Would love to see more of these types of videos!!!

Love this style of video! ✨ I’ve recently started seriously budgeting and being intentional with my purchases these last few months and I’ve gone from spending literally hundreds of dollars a week to about $170 total-that’s with groceries and gas and such. Figuring out this kind of information is such a game changer for one’s personal finances!

Girl, organic bread at Trader Joe's is 2.99! I ditched Dave's bread when they hiked the prices. It's just my husband and I and we do our full grocery shops at Trader Joe's. Prices can't be beat. 11.99 for an amazing grass fed roast. It's great for two people! I make my coffee at home and we eat out maybe a few times a month if that. I'd rather cook at home. We have always lived below our means and bought a house that was way under budget. We are able to save every month! 😊

I use an excel sheet to track everything we spend, our monthly expenses, yearly expenses, random/unexpected expenses. It has really made me aware of where our money goes. My husband and I don’t spend any unnecessary money Sunday-Thursday. We spend mostly on Fridays and sometimes Saturday. Fridays is when we do our grocery shopping or any other household shopping.

Super frugal minimalist tip: There's an Aldi Foods in Charlottesville. If you shopped there instead of Target for most of your items, you would save a ton of money, especially with apples and other produce... for a whole bag of pink lady 🍎apples it's around $3 and change. If you shop there first and then go to Target for the other things afterward, you can save so much money! I couldn't resist sharing this tip because Aldi can save you so much on groceries and their produce is wonderful. Definitely a must when you start a family and beneficial to begin shopping there before you start a family so that you'll be one step ahead of the game.

Yes I actually really enjoy tracking my expenses! I sit down at the end of every month and update them! My average expenses are ~$1,000/month and I’m located in California. That does not include rent, but does include my phone bill, car insurance & registration, etc.

love seeing these kinds of videos! that bread was spectacularly expensive though, hahah! is all bread that expensive in your area? also the $40 for a tank of gas made me laugh, with everything happening a gallon in western europe costs $10.15 so about $132 for a full tank 🙃
@AshlynneEaton
@AshlynneEaton 2 жыл бұрын
Bread is definitely one of those things that is more expensive in the United States than in Europe! Although inflation has definitely hit it here. A year ago, that same loaf of bread would’ve cost $4.99. That’s wild about gas in Europe though! I knew it was more expensive, but I didn’t know how much! 🤍
@juliab628
@juliab628 2 жыл бұрын
Bread is not that expensive in the United States. Most bread is around 2 to $3 and some you can get for 1.79 if you shop at a reasonable store like Aldi. It's because the bread she bought was an overpriced specialty kind and it was bought at Target which is more expensive.

I keep track of everything I spend (Sometimes I forget a few things but not often). I have been doing this for four or five years. My husband may semi-retire next year so this has been a HUGE help in planning how much we will need in retirement.. He only recently decided this; this was not the reason I started. I think it is one of the best things for managing your money.

I haven't tried this before but it was definitely interesting to see thanks for putting it out there! there is so much freedom for people to have their own values lifestyles and situations and I think a typical week for me varies depending what season it is but a typical week right now for example I spend about $80 for hay for my horse and $20 for Zyrtec for her allergies (just being proactive and starting her back on her allergy meds for the Spring hopefully before the allergens that bother her kick up and yes the active ingredient ceterzine in Zyrtec is safe and effective in horses and she has a prescription for it from her vet but my girl has to take 10 tablets morning and night based on her weight which is definitely different than a safe level for a person so I am buying a bottle of 120 tablets every week rn but it keeps her healthy and happy so that's what matters), I also like to take my dog to the pet store about once a week but lately have been just taking her out on some longer walks around home as our main activity the past few weeks and actually this week she is getting a bath and haircut so that will also keep us busy so you can see that probably my animals is where I spend and that is a whole category that I have that some people don't, but other things that are not important to me are important to other people and it's cool to learn from other people and do what works for you and your life 😊

I live in Surrey, England and with our mortgage, petrol, and necessary (and sometimes unnecessary ;)) purchases etc, we spend on average around £700 a week for a couple of us (around $1000 US). Where we live is a very expensive part of the United Kingdom, and it is marginally cheaper than London where we both work. Petrol prices in the UK are ridiculously expensive and we have a large-ish Audi, which we drive into the city on an alternating weekly schedule. We also have 2 cats, who require food and insurance payments etc. Our electricity and gas is also very expensive and we do indulge on treats such as wine, junk food, cigarettes (for my OH) and makeup/clothing for me. We do also have numerous credit commitments (who doesn't these days?!) and pay for TV/internet and multiple subscription services. We are VERY fortunate though to have good steady jobs, with a moderately good income and we couldn't imagine living somewhere like the US where medical expenses are so high - I suffer from mental health issues so I can imagine that the cost of therapy over in the states and also my medications would be ridiculously expensive. I believe I spend about £9 in total for my medications for a month. It's a really interesting topic to see comparisons on what people spend! :) we could definitely be better and your channel is very inspiring in terms of your minimalism - I will be looking to see where I can adapt some of your habits into our everyday life! Thanks for making great content and inspiring gripping conversation! xx

I’m curious, I know your big on keeping a budget and you guys love to host friends over at your home. Do you have a separate line in your budget for that??

We tend to include it in our entertainment/eating out budget (even though we’re often doing it in our home 😅). But it definitely does add up so we did need to start including it!

@@AshlynneEaton I enjoy watching your channel. I use to live in Charlotte, my parents are still there. There are so many places you talk about and I use to go to myself, and then a lot of new places gonna have to check out when I get to visit.

No wonder Americans are always braking bread in KZbin videos!!! You can get really nice fresh baked bread from the supermarket in the UK for less than a dollar, and then just freeze it so you can use it through the week (I generally toast it). Your petrol is really cheep though! A tank of gas here is over 100 dollars!

What? 😂 How much is gas in your state? I normally pay 75€ per tank 😀 it was 1.40€/liter in Slovakia before, now because of Russia/Ukraine happenings its 1.55€/liter so now I pay 92€ per tank

I used to spend a bunch of time with my friends until I noticed how it negatively affected my marriage. Investing in your marriage and building that intimate relationship with your spouse is the most meaningful and fruitful relationship you will ever have. The video was interesting. I enjoyed it.
