You were one of the first minimalists I was exposed to. You have really made me think a ton about my purchasing habits and consumerism habits. I really did a 180 with my thoughts and I only buy what I need. I still have tons of possessions that I don’t want….and I’m still overwhelmed. I recently watched your video on how your mindset changed on minimalism and I really appreciated that video! I agree with all of your thoughts. My main goal is to not be a bare bones minimalist, but to only own what I love. More so like a eco-minimalist and intentionalist. I hope to get to a place where I only own what I love within a year or two! I’m taking the process slow!

I know exactly what you mean, minimalism makes everything more enjoyable and somehow let’s us see what we really want. We really enjoy going for a coffee and so I am quite happy to spend money in cafes because it’s something we like to do, also going to restaurants and enjoying a meal is something we spend more on. Beautiful to see you enjoying watercolour, I’m a watercolour artist and there is nothing like it in my opinion:)

I got into minimalism thanks to you and Simple happy zen (I found you both around the same time) and it's been life changing. Things I spend my money on now are: - leaf loose tea (although I use a french press to make it but I do like your cute reusable bags) - high quality skincare (before I had tons of cheap products, now I buy less but good quality) - eating out with bf or my friends, to enjoy the experience I would like to spend more on travel but I get motion sickness, so something that is a hobby for everyone is a nightmare for me. I'm still working on clothes. I've definitely stopped impulse shopping and gave up 2/3 of my wardrobe, but I still cannot find myself to spend a large amount of money on a single item that could last me a lifetime as I'm afraid in 2-3 years I'll get bored of it and want to change. Thanks again for a great video.

Since I became a minimalist I expend a lot of money in new experiences 💖 Such as visiting new places, do new activities... That is my top priority. Before all this journey I expent my money in clothes, makeup, etc and then I didn't have the chance to try them because I didn't have enough money to go out 🥴 Thanks to minimalism I understand what is really valuable for me: to make memories 💖

Helping my friend organize his apartment. He is not a less is more person. Lots of tools to repair his cars. He can't lift at present time so he appreciated that I could. He was able to part with some things that were not serving a purpose. I like helping someone organize and make there space look good.

Lady Grey is the top favorite tea of my 10 year old daughter and I. I need to make reading a part of my routine, I used to prioritize and love it! I still draw, but with work and mom life, it’s gone from daily to once every week or two. I know for when the kids are tiny especially, and I’d be paranoid of them getting into and ruining my art supplies, investing in an iPad mini and Apple Pencil has been super worth it to continue doing art. :) (I use a $10 app called Procreate, which is pretty comparable to Photoshop in a lot of ways!) Also doing digital art feels more minimalist, because all of the supplies are in the program, rather than taking up a lot of physical space. There’s definitely a different kind of satisfaction with digital art compared to the more unpredictable nature of traditional art. No undo in real life, lol. I used to have a habit of getting new art supplies often, and ending up with “just in case I’m in the mood to incorporate this” items that almost never get used. I’ve almost completely stopped doing that, unless my brush pens or paint pens dry up, and need to be replaced. If you like watercolors, you might enjoy gouache. It’s basically a mix between watercolors and acrylics, so you can get different opacity, depending on how much water you add. The flat colors you can achieve with less water are pretty satisfying, in my opinion. :)

Hey Ashlynne, I'm so grateful to you. I've discovered the word decluttering and the process from your videos. I've decluttered many unwanted items from my life. I agree with you that memories are important than things... Now, I don't remember the things which I decluttered as well.... I never miss watching your videos, you're such an addiction♥️🥰 Keep making the videos. ♥️From India.

Often times we see so much content about what minimalism isn’t and what we don’t buy, I’m always curious to know where investments are made because after all, that’s what it’s about! The things we love and value most in life. I am on my way to getting out of a small amount of debt from pandemic shopping… Rather embarrassing, but it is what it is. I really enjoy your content and have been watching and listening more thoughtfully to your advice. You and your hubby are in such a great place in your life at such a young age. Best wishes and many blessings to you both! Thank you for sharing your travels with us! I would love to know how you make your traveling lifestyle work with your jobs.

I’m only starting my minimalist journey now & it’s so refreshing. My apartment feels cluttered but I’m taking steps to declutter to make things a bit nicer. I love reading so I share them with friends & family or the free little libraries around my town. I also started renting clothes instead of buying for every event that may come up with friends & work which has been super helpful / more sustainable

I love making things for my home and garden. I even enjoy making natural cleaners for my home.

I don't have it in me to be a minimalist but I am becoming more intentional in my purchases. Today I paid a service to launder all of my laundry after finding the dryer blew out during the previous day's blackout. I have been tossing out cheap, outdated makeup and bought new, more saturated colors, better brushes and I am practicing putting it on so I feel more confident. I am definitely purchasing more books and I am getting clothes that fit and disposing of clothes that don 't. I find that holding on to the clothes typically means I am trying to hold on to an idea or desire I have for my life. I realized that nice fitting clothes regardless of how long I keep them makes you feel better.

I am really looking forward to building a capsule wardrobe. Maybe this isn't necessarily "minimalism" labeled but. I've come to realize that my clutter started when I started buying so much clothing while in high school. Most of the clothes I have is not ever worn so I am working on getting rid of items, donating some, selling some and only keeping those that make me happy and that I use often. I feel like this will take me longer than expected because I am transitioning into a new period in my life where my taste has changed, my friendships have changed, my personal interests and values. So, this is definitely a work in progress but I must say that once I get this taken care of, the rest will come down like a domino effect. Thank you for this video! It provided so much insight and it was a very calm and relaxing vive ✨

I would say for me, investing in quality over a quick buy and more core pieces in my wardrobe and home. I agree with you about investing in good quality items that have the potential to be sustainable for a long time. I’m currently starting the journey of creating and curating a more nature inspired wardrobe and living space. More browns, tans, greens and heather grey and blues.

Hey Ashlynne, debt is a good thing! It’s much better to have „good debt“ than to pay upfront. Debt is how rich people get richer. As long as the interest rate of the loan is smaller than the interest rate of your investments (e.g. stocks) you are MAKING MONEY. I always use 0% loans, they make sense and basically gift you money! It’s just important to not buy too much stuff on loans.

I understand why many people would enjoy these things. It's just that all of them have one thing in common....more expense. Travel costs so much money, I just don't see how people afford to do it often, and/or to places far away. Libraries are free, and even loose leaf tea is pricey. Expensive furniture is fine, but with children it isn't the best idea. I'm not trying to be unkind, it is just that all of these things cost so much money and I do not think it is reality for many people ( whether they would desire to do it or not ).

I totally see where you're coming from. I can't afford to live like Ashlynne, but I sure do love living vicariously through her. I feel like Ashlynne and her hubby made different life choices than my husband and I did. Neither one of us had good paying jobs as young newly weds. I quit working when our twins were born so that took us down to one paycheck. We've never been able to travel as much as we'd like. We have bought second hand furniture numerous times. My daughters graduate high school in a few days. They are both heading off to colleges my husband and I wished we could have gone to. I'm praying my girls are more like Ashlynne and get their lives together long before they have babies. I want my girls to be able to enjoy life like Ashlynne and her hubby do. I'll continue to read library books, thrift shop and create art from found things. And i might be a tad jealous of where Ashlynne is at her age... but it gives this 46 year old mama something to look forward to.
@juliab6282 жыл бұрын
@@JailynJames this sounds close to identical from how our lives were when we started our family. Mostly I'm happy with all of the decisions that we made! However sometimes I regret that starting our family didn't happen sooner, as we waited for 3 years after we got married before expecting our first baby. But at that time, we thought that we needed that time to become more financially secure and/or, to take one more trip since our honeymoon had been our only travel time three years prior. But now, wisdom tells me that God would have provided had our family happened earlier and sometimes my overthinking and over planning makes me regret some decisions. I'm 50 and our children are now 25 years old & 21 years old. They're both thriving and happy but neither one has been blessed with marriage yet. I know everything is in God's timing so I remind myself that everyday! It sounds like your girls are off to a great start as well! I wish the best to you!

Hi :) the quality of your video is for sure evolving for the best :) i love your way of filming places on travel, very poetic relaxing :) and in fact, minimalism is to enjoy more :) thanks for reminding this important message :) 😘✨ i have a lot of commun points during the process for the things but i will not list all, not to spoil all the good video, that way people watch :) for the process, i realised some passions i discovered back too, for reading, i have the exact same feeling that you expressed about books, then I discovered back my love for painting, drawing, photo, writing, editing, that i even forgot during years, too busy for years in my last job. then, in link to passions reconnected, even emerged a new job idea. so as I started to do more courses on line for learning new skills for evolving for this new work dream project :) even felt to learn another language then, passion too :) and of course.. taking more time relax to share time with relatives, going more out for walks to the parks, beach, travels.. or even just at home, appreciating the sun at the terrasse with a coffee relax or cooking, movie evening :)

I agree with a lot of the points you brought up, except for air travel. I live in Europe, so I can travel through most of the continent by train. However, as soon as you take a flight, you are letting out an insane amount of CO2. The air travel industry doesn’t really get an incitement for developing new, sustainable technology if we just keep purchasing plane tickets. I love visiting new places, but I think it’s really important to emphasize that traveling is probably only really sustainable if you do it by train. I know you live in a much larger country than I do, so the task of not relying on planes as much becomes greater for you. But we all need to change our traveling habits, and we need to do it now (for the climate).
