Love this, especially as my partner and I plan a trip to France later this year! My favourite tips (specifically for flights) are 1) if you're doing multiple cities like this, rather than book each flight one at a time (i.e. by going to "one way" on Google Flights), select "multi-city" and book your flights altogether, even with the same airline like AC. Another tip is to get an Airbnb or hotel with some sort of kitchen so you can prep your own food some days, allowing you to experience local groceries and flavours for cheap. This was ESPECIALLY helpful and amazing in Lisbon when there was so much fresh affordable fish. Hope you enjoyed the trip :)

So happy you guys had an amazing trip! I live in Europe and I love travelling. When I‘m travelling in Europe, I usually take the train and you can get much cheaper tickets if you book far in advance. Sometimes we also borrow my parents car and go camping on a mediterranean island, which ends up being pretty cheap. Otherwise we save on hotels mostly staying in cheap places, sometimes with shared bathrooms since me and my partner both don‘t really mind that (definitely not going for dorms anymore though 😂). If restaurant food is expensive, we also picknick a lot - usually that goes with the situation anyway, if we are out and about during the day it is easiest to bring snacks from the supermarket and just go to a restaurant maybe for dinner.

Thanks so much 😊 We'll definitely look into the trains more in the future - the flights weren't too bad for us this trip, but the fact that it's cheaper if you book far in advance is good to know! Love the other tips, too - it sounds like you've had some fun / memorable trips! 🙌🏿🙌🏻

Why did you decide to drive over taking a train? Was it timings or more wanting to see the route by road?

Did you guys go into the trip with a spending range in mind or an upper cap of how much you would spend? I know you mentioned less than $50 a day on food but did you guys expect to spend almost $10k? Loved the video!

Hey! Good question - we haven't done a trip like this before, so first we did our research on what we wanted to do, then looked into how much it would cost to figure out what a realistic budget would be. Based on what we had planned, knew it would be at least $8,000 - then we tried to keep it as close to there as possible (since the little /extra costs can really add up!) After this experience, we'll be better prepared to have a specific budget range that we can use as a guideline when we plan 😊

I used to leave in France before moving to Canada. It’s easy and cheap to travel between cities or even countries in Europe with the high speed train.

Did you consider using rapid trains for going between cities in Spain?
@stephandden
@stephandden Жыл бұрын
Hey! We did look into it - the biggest reason we didn't was timing. We wanted to capitalize on the days as much as possible (ie. we travelled between cities either at night or early in the morning, so we still had full days in each place), and the train times didn't line up as well for us. We also found that the two flights we took were pretty similar in price, as we flew with cheap airlines. But, we'd definitely consider using the rapid trains for a future trip if it made sense! 😊

Thanks for sharing! Did you guys also get personal liability insurance? I'm not sure if your rental car insurance only covered collision damage or personal liability as well?

Planning a trip to Spain next year! Curious why you two decided to travel by plan vs train between cities?
@stephandden
@stephandden Жыл бұрын
Have fun, we really loved Spain! 😊 For us, it was about timing - we could fly slightly faster, and there were options for late night / early morning flights that allowed us to spend the whole day in each location still (ie. our first flight between cities was at night, the second once was really early in the morning). It sounds like the high-speed trains are great too, especially if you're booking far enough in advance that you get a lower price. I'd look into both options and see what lines up with your plans best!
