3:32 was a very good answer, it's mma and not boxing where punches, footworks, and techniques only matters. In mma, fingers are very important for grappling and clinching, and it would be tiring if gloves force you to close your fist and you wanna open it for grappling and defense reasons.
@Partickkkkkkk6 ай бұрын
You just need them to have a natural curve to the glove... This was solved years back with the PRIDE gloves and the current RIZIN gloves. You still have access to the fingers but the resting hand is curved in slightly.

The current UFC gloves are not ideal as they don't allow the hands to naturally relax into a shape that won't stab eyes.. This design is problematic because it leads to fatigue, making it difficult for fighters to strike effectively throughout the bout. Gaetje spoke up on this as well. He complained about forearm fatigue when fighting with the current gloves, but if you relax your hands and you have a long guard with what we have you're going to skewer faces.

these aren't good at preventing eye pokes, trevor already designed mma gloves that prevent eye pokes with which you can still grapple normally, you just gotta make them so you would have to flex your hand to do eye pokes. i think he prob patented those so the ufc couldn't probably implement that feature.

Seem to be the same concept as Wittman's "grappling gloves" that were shown on JRE years ago. If I recall, the UFC wanted to license or purchase the design, and do production as they see fit. Wittman probably wanted an exclusive production contract. That's why it didn't happen. If it wasn't about getting that contract, and it is a better glove, why isn't OnX producing and selling them direct to consumers?

Deducing points will be the right move to prevent eye pokes. So that the one who did eye pokes will not take advantage too much. With the risk of losing fight by point deduction, I believe most of fighters will be far more cautious to poke eyes no matter on purpose or not.
@thegreatboppilini90066 ай бұрын
Points mean nothing though. An eye poke can lead to an easier takedown or chance to catch someone with something they can’t see. If penalties were enforced in the UFC we’d see less shenanigans. Also these gloves suck, they’re a classic image but the design doesn’t help.
@Les_Grossman806 ай бұрын
That's already the case. But once an eye poke is done you're already compromised.

So if Jon Jones gets his first loss from having a point taken away for his first eye-poke, maybe another for his second, nobody is going to complain about it and say he is still undefeated? I mean, he should have been DQd in his fight against Anthony Smith. Whether he said he could continue is irrelevant. He also lost for certain to Reyes and in my opinion to Santos (much closer fight though). So Jones lost his last 3 fights at 205. Don’t dare disagree if you don’t consider the matt hammil loss to be legit. If you can ignore official losses, I can ignore official wins.

They are *MUCH LIGHTER* Im a boxer and striking coach so for me the difference between a 14oz to 16oz sparring glove is massive I havent weighted them but im guessing these are well over 1 ounce lighter Your right on ablut the knuckle padding, i think they are going for a more BKFC KO appeal Which is actjally safer becajse getting knocked out cold is alot better than being stunned when you dont habe a standing 8 count. More cuts though i predict The wrists are the biggest cjange for a reason. The old gloves you can grab and pull on a guys glove no matter the tape or wrap underneath. These new ones arent going to allow guys to do that because they are longer and tighter I only use these type gloves when working with my bare knuckle guys but i love the changes I think you will too once you get used to them Good luck

disagree, trevor whitman gloves are designed to. With the new and current UFC gloves, when you relax your hand it will open up. Trevor whitman gloves by design is made to when you relax your hand, you will ball up into a fist since the leather itself is design to contract. This is relevant because when fight goes on and people get tired they will relax their hand and thus it should reduce eye pokes. Would it reduce it enough to a relevant degree? No one knows. What we do know is that Dana lied about these gloves having anything to do with addressing the eye poke problem.

@carloandreaguilar59166 ай бұрын
What an absolutely trash, ridiculous take. Do you know how much gloves cost to make? UFC belts alone are worth hundreds of thousands… after each title defense they get rubies. If they wanted to save 5 bucks they would cut costs on the expensive things, not the cheapest things. Makes no financial sense. Math doesn’t math. They probably want more KOs, which is why they’re lighter now

@carloandreaguilar5916 The ufc did exactly that by not giving out a new belt for every title defence so yeah they cheaped out there. Also don't you understand economics? This is cool to see someone go over the new gloves and eye pokes will always be part of the game. However, you should get an instant point deduction if you poke an eye. No warnings. Eye pokes aren't caused from when your guard is up. They most often come from people using a fingers forward long guard or from actively pawing at the face. Ala DC. I'd argue it's way more natural and less tense to keep your hand in more of a C shape than fully open. That way you can still parry and also close your fists quicker for strikes. Fighters need to be punished for eye pokes and should be more aware/conscious of doing it to actively do better to reduce them. There is a few fighters that actively use it as part of their game knowing they're going to get a warning first before being punished doesn't stop them. My old Muay Thai coach used to say "Land one good kick to the dick at the start of the fight and if you get a warning don't do it again, if the ref doesn't notice it. Do it again" He was old school and did anything to win. I can appreciate it but don't agree with it. But i feel a lot of the fighters in the UFC take this route too. Especially when half your purse is on the line which i completely understand. if everyone gets punished the same and the rules stay the same. Then the playing field stays fair and less fights are ruined from being poked in the eye. Ultimately it's never going to stop but rules need to change. Less so the gloves.

@@FacilityBJJ theres a difference between having fists clenched and your hands completely open with fingers spread. The main issue is fighters extending their fingers out to the opponent as "range-finders", when striking and grazing/poking the opponent whether intentionally or not. Your hands don't naturally rest wide open anyway, you're actively tensing your hand when you fully open it, so trevor's gloves really just keep your hand in the natural position. This would make unintentional eye pokes a lot less common and allow for more strict punishments imo
