Hi Davie, Top tips… I’ve also used the same Mucilin product for years and totally agree with you 😀👍

I used the Mucilin for many many years (60s and 70s) .... not sure why I stopped? Perhaps I found the small applicator bottles easier to use. Interesting, that the only time I used the pad was for cleaning my lines. You learn something new every day .... thanks!

Tiemco magic dry is the best Floatant I have used and I’ve tried them all. And I’m also a fan of Gulff Duck for cdc as well.

Thanks Davie, I've still got metal tins with the Mucilin them, the pad is still in use on my floating lines, I've got red and green tins, cheers, Big Davie

All my father ever used. I use for line dressing and on furled leaders. Have made my own floatant for years.

Silicon works well but when you tie the fly on, your thumb and forefinger will “grease” your tippet at the fly and make it look unnatural. Use your little finger to apply any floatant to keep it off of your tippet.

Always used the pad to clean & lube my fly line / leader. Most drys got a quick pad squeeze ! It's time to replace the pad & use your technique. ALSO USED THIS SILICONE PASTE ON BROWNING AUTO SHOTGUNS FOR BELOW ZERO F° HUNTING !

Yeah I’ve got tubs I’ve had for years and used it just like you say, that came from the great Richard Walker. It’s best in the metal tin’s, those plastic tubs are hopeless the lid don’t go back on after a while !

I've had the green label metal can of Mucilin for ages. I bought it for line and leader dressing. Then I heard you could use it to apply dubbing to your thread. Just dab on your fingers, and dub your fur. Some sticks to the fur. Works pretty good but the way you do it Davie I think would be better. ATB!

I have used the ‘green’ silicone mucilin since the latter part of season just gone - having seen you using it in one of your outdoor fishing escapades Davie - and it works great when applied sparingly as you say - even on cdc. And so much cheaper than all those fancy googaas out there!👍

Hello! I know this question doesn’t pertain to this particular video, but I desperately need your advice! My hubby is a fisheries biologist and naturalist. Hes an avid fly tier & harvests his own materials. He harvests them from hunting, friends & road kill permits. He subs to you and thinks you are one of the best fly tiers out there. Hes recently started to DYE his own materials. There en lies his problem. Your videos have helped him so much to get started. However, while dying pheasant wings, he’s ran into an issue with the feathers falling out. He follows all the information you have given in your vids. He just can’t get the feathers to stop falling from the skin? Do you have any advice that I can give him? I would be grateful for any tips you…or anyone else may have! Thank you. 😊

Good call on this Davie..tell me ...the floatants that leave a visible residew on the water...is Gink in that category?. Tight lines Davie.

Hi, never noticed you using a sinkant on your tippet - is that because you use flourocarbon and it actually sinks, rather than use copolymer that floats and can afect presentation?

And I think I’ve seen you use this on flies with CDC? I was told not to do that so I’ve never tried. Am I right? Do you use it on CDC? Thanks.
@DavieMcPhail Жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, It's all I use and it works just as well on CDC as it does on any other dry fly I have tyed, you may have seen me do it in one or two of my fishing videos.. All the very best Davie

Mucilin..."How much"? " "Tak the tap aff, and walk the fly by it" How they ever made money... I also have a red and green, decades auld. While there's a smear - there's a couple o' seasons in it yet. :D

Hi Morten, Just dip your fly into it and allow it to dry which doesn't take too long and it will float really well.. All the very best Davie

Curse of all floatants is you get it on your hands, and then it ends up on your leader, and then you are constantly degreasing. I feel I need a gillie to apply my floatant, lol. Seriously, I always found this irritating. Solutions please.

Smear it like Davie shows but don’t use your index finger and thumb, I use the tip of my little finger on the rod holding hand and that keeps the material off the fingers that might handle the leader !

Nice tutorial Davie,what s the Red Mucilin for?
@boaber22 Жыл бұрын
Green Mucilin contains silicon, red doesn't. Some plastic / pvc fly lines do not take kindly to the application of silicon. Thats my understanding anyway

El mucilin rojo es el que usamos para engrasar los que empleamos fly lines de seda natural. Es el que recomiendan los mejores fabricantes de ellas porque no daña el apresto con el que estan fabricadas. por supuesto que sirve también para las moscas como indica David.
