First off, congrats on passing the exam and appreciate the information provided regarding your experience. New to the channel and getting ready to go down the DevNet path myself (aspiring to obtain the CCIE). Looking forward to checking out your other content and keep reaching for the stars!

I appreciate your kind words. The devnet path is very beneficial for aspiring CCIE candidates and I am sure will play a crucial role in my journey. Best of wishes to you on yours and feel free to reach out anytime.

Nice video! I am studying for this at the moment and I am really struggling to get a lab setup going on my own computer (VIRL images and NX OS run really slow and dont work properly on GNS3). Could I get away with just using the online labs i.e, the always-on ones? I can look into the reserved labs, but I run Linux at home, but it seems like a lot of overhead to get openconnect working (also in the process, maybe installing a lot of junk on my home system). Obviously everything being available is better, but I am early into studying for this and I am starting to see that creating a lab locally is going to be a big pain. Thanks

Try the new free CML for devices. It will have everything you need. It’s a 5 node limit but that should be plenty to get you going. The sandbox should get you the rest of the way. Although you very likely could use it exclusively.

Hi Chad, I hope you're well. Just saw your video on how you passed your devnet exam, was wondering if you could share the excel for Nick Russo. As I can't download it I think his website is down

50% of the information for this exam feels like an ad campaign for Cisco products and solutions. Are we expected to have URIs memorized? How much of it is write code to do this VS look at this code tell me what it’s doing?

I completely understand where you are coming from. I think the certification holds a valuable place more so for software engineers moving down into the network stack however execution of that could be better. The exam will challenge your memorization of URI and exact placement of payloads down to the key/value. Cool right? In the real world you will always consult the API documentation no matter how many times you’ve done it because things change. I will say this exam is more fair than the devcor. I took that at Cisco Live this year and will not attempt it again. It was way more intense on memorization of stuff you would always consult the documentation for.

I’m going through nick russos excel sheet right now too.. that first pluralsight playlist of python fundamentals seems way more complex than I imagine for someone without programming experience. How much python experience/skill do you think I really need for devnet?
@ChadEmery

Great question. I did not watch that portion. Made it through roughly 5 videos and realized that portion was not for me. I substituted that with the devnet site which has a few beginner python things on there as well as various KZbin videos. I do also have a background writing Python so I probably over did this portion. As far as the exam is concerned you should be comfortable with the basics. Import modules, venv, pip, functions, loops, vars of all types, etc.. If you understand all of that you will likely be fine to skip that entirely as I did. Once you got that down focus on the nuances of the cisco specific products and interacting with them using python. Hopefully this was helpful.
