Started almost blind, saw the gameplay and got interested. Started game and read the manual, it was cool! I begun and was in the first room. I practiced to move immediately, tried all the ways to maneuver and got somewhat used to it. Then some combat training, tried out throwing punches and move like a fighter. It took me a long time to get out of the first room because I didn't realize I have to click and drag the doors... Still alive though, found a friend and kept him well equipped. Got to level 3 and slightly beyond, but now I am a bit lost and unfortunately my friend died. He took the brunt of the first fights so I could practice and get over my hesitation. This game is honestly one of my favorites that i played so far this year. Its so charming and unique and the combat is seriously rewarding. Every combat is dangerous and unique, the campaign is a cool dungeon crawler that feels so classic and full of secrets. The Gladiator mode (which Klean is playing at least in the beginning) Is also a really fun mode that i think many play more than the campaign. I heard this game was sort of a test for a future project? Not sure but the game is very solid and fun. A multiplayer mode would be crazy and I see it poppin off in the social space.

The game had so much more content than I thought because I wasn't able to leave the "Tutorial" area for the first 50-ish hours. Multiplayer for the story, and more maps/story content in general are going to launch this game from great to near-perfect! Id love to see you going through the story portion of this game, Klean. After I played Oblivion when it first came out, I h ad this idea for a 'step combat', a first person, directional / intricate physics based combat system that put extra force and momentum into strikes based on the direction of the steps your character was moving in, and the steps would feel like individual steps, something you could time while moving around and attacking, instead of just feeling floaty like Oblivion felt. I also had a bunch of ideas for being able to train strength by carrying lots of stuff, picking up heavy things like rocks and logs and carrying them, and your strength would not only make your character bigger and muscly but also increase the amount of degradation damage you do to armour based on its rating, and the physical force exerted with weapon swings, so at early levels your blows might glance off of a heavy piece of armour, but at high levels, mastering the extra momentum with the step system would allow you to shatter someones armour. Then I had ideas about weapons breaking in real time if you don't have quality ones crafted, in a similar way, with the endgame materials never breaking for a skilled endgame player, but early game materials shattering on impact because of the amount of force and power your character has. Fighting with wide, big blunt weapons would speed up over time as your strength increases, allowing you to send units flying if you hit them right. My prayers for such a game were tickled into existence slightly when I discovered Mount and Blade, and then a Sui Generis trailer blew my mind. Exanima to date is the only game that's really come close to what I had envisioned. I'm so happy to live in a world with so many likeminded people, sharing the same stream of ideas and passion that I do, because I am quite stupid and inept in other ways than spurs of creative idea-having and would NEVER be able to make a game like this myself. It's why I love VR so much, the combat has this step combat feel to it almost by default, because it's you moving, and part of what makes VR games so complicated to develop is the intricacy in all of its physics interactions.
@Joel-wj9ql5 ай бұрын
*“When the opponent expand, I contract. When he contracts, I expand. And, when there is an opportunity, I do not hit - it hits all by itself.”* Undeniably the most realistic representation of medieval melee combat ever done in video games (from someone who has spent an unhealthy amount of time and energy in research out of pure love for the history and the sheer ingenuity of humanity). Hell, throw books and movies in. All literature. The ground up approach to physics and musculoskeletal control is groundbreaking. Nothing like this has ever really been done before... It forces you to learn to walk again. It takes you on a ride of personal enlightenment as you learn to stop thinking so much and just embrace the natural physics and elasticity of the body. You have to be in flow state to play this game, if for even a second your focus falters your grasp on your character fades. But when you truly feel your character, you can *feel* the weight of the weapon in their hand, and the impacts of your weapon on the enemy. Defeating the enemy in this game is so god damn rewarding. And every time I am defeated fairly, I know it is because I played wrong, not because the other guy had a bigger number. And sure, there is gear disparity in this game; it has the most realistic representation of armour and how it really works in anything I have ever seen, mainly due to the game's physics system. Heavy armour and good quality weapons are great; but someone who has spent some time who has a decent grasp on the combat can defeat even the most heavily armed and armoured opponent with a bit of skill and a small amount of luck; even with no armour and wielding a mouldy broomstick

@Blizzhobbs Жыл бұрын
I played through it recently and have beaten almost every preset character victory condition. I do agree it’s a little more simple than exanima in terms of the controls. It’s also pretty easy to cheese the game by just spamming overhead strikes with a shortsword and getting decapitations, that’s harder to do in exanima because headshot require more precision and there’s no beheading mechanic afaik. The shields are also pretty OP in wwaatd too. I also feel that the characters move more robotically/mechanically whereas in exanima it feels more like a wobbly puppet on strings.

keyboard left hand, controller right hand. Makes movement and swinging easy. you can get really hard hits and the reticle distance is limited on the controller side. That way you can always control your reticle placement and don't lose it at the edges of the screen when you make a hard swing. Also moving into your swing will massively increase impact. So swinging with the controller stick and trigger while moving with the tighter controls of the keyboard makes open combat much easier. Stabs and overhead swings suffer though. I can't do them predictably this way. So there is a weakness to this trick, but a good way to get into the combat and score some gruesome hits pretty quick. It will get you through the normal and advanced practice modes. Also will get you far in the arena. Also, in the practice modes (which is just one enemy after another), pick up the weapons and armor of your fallen opponents before you move to the next round. There are weapons and armor hanging on the walls of the areas where you fight. You will keep them until you lose or until you beat the practice run. This isn't true in the arena game mode where you have to buy your weapons and armor. won't get you far in the main game with keyboard/controller combo. You need too much control over swing power and direction with tight hallways, doors, obstacles to trip over, faster and meaner opponents, uneven terrain, not to mention light management. It is pitch black without light. Many times you need to choose between your favorite weapon/shield and a torch (quickly). The mouse is muuuuch better at manipulating the menus, and world items. So learn the basics with the keyboard/controller combo, and then go full in keyboard and mouse once you have beaten the two practice modes (not arena. I'm not sure there is a way to beat arena). One final tip, move/look under everything and look around everywhere. There are some well-hidden amazing objects throughout the dungeon (like a helmet that lets you see in the dark or just a key to a door hidden under an overturned chair).

Just found this video about a week ago and immediately knew I had to try this game for myself. Bought it before the video ended and I've been playing as much as I can ever since. As far as I'm concerned it's gotta be the contender for "Best Games I've Ever Played". I'm absolutely loving it and can easily see how I'm gonna clock a stupid # of hours in it. Thanks, @Klean 😁 Just came back to watch a 2nd time and see what new tips I can pick up. P.S. After buying, I did Arena mode until I got a squad of 4 up to Master before attempting to really explore the dungeons, which I've been doing for about 3 days now. My last run was fun(ny). Finally got to the end of level ONE, using a great online interactive map to make sure I picked the level clean of everything it had to offer. Was at the final door of the trap tunnel, looking for the door control, which turned out to be a button. What, game? No broken lever I have to figure out how to prop up with a ladder like a person with only one functional hand? Huh. Ok. I pushed the button, and the door opened. As I prepared to turn around and walk to the door, I happened to glance down and my last thoughts were (1) why was that puzzle so easy? (2) why was I was standing on a grate? and; (3) what is that "whooshing" sound I hear under my feet? P.P.S. Anyway, after THAT gruesome death I learned (a) the importance of carefully examining my environment before pushing buttons, and (b) what a great idea it is to NOT forget I just learned telekinesis an hour ago and could have pushed that button from across the room. 🤣 Genius tutorial system, honestly.

I remember trying to play that game and finding it impossible because the car was controlled by rotating the 2D graphic clockwise and anti-clockwise. My young mind couldn’t compute not always being behind the car in one direction only. I remember the exact moment when my brain broke through this wall and created the new pathways to suddenly be able to accept that there was no need to mentally picture myself behind the car at every moment whilst struggling to understand what key to press, and the game immediately became playable, in an instant. That was a good game, Google it to see what was state of the art back then.

Over the years of on and off play I've learned this game needs a proper save system. Every time I play this something happens like the game crashes or a glitch pops up so I lose hours of progress. Worst experience was losing 12 hours or so because instead of the game restarting the level like it had been doing it kicked me all the way back to the portal. Few months ago was messing around with thaumaturgy and somehow I got an error popup which glitched things out making me lose an hour. I just want a save system. I can't stand the whole argument against it saying people will save scum and whatnot. So fucking what, I'm tired of having my experience ruined by something stupid.

I know it's a late reply, but you can manually save by backing up the files in your appdata/roaming/exanima folder. I did that too, and played through the story mode, it was so worth it.

I have never in my life laughed at a pun. I did today and it was bc of the frog. Perfect breakdown of the game though. Subscribed.

I think remise is better than the others, it's literally a free attack. You should be dodging them anyway instead of going for a riposte and risk taking a hit.

Just logged on to say thank you. While playing 50 hours, I watched quite a few tutorials. Yet with yours it clicked. Maybe do a shorter concise one, with less talk about the devs? It could get quite a few clicks. Best of luck to you and the devs! I am stocked.
