I struggled to fit in the USA for 30 years. After 4.5 years in the UK, I feel that it is a much better fit for me. I will hopefully get my settled (EU) status this year. Definitely get on the passport thing as soon as possible, bureaucracy moves very slowly. Hope you feel better soon, I have by some miracle managed to dodge all the bugs going around this year (Now that I said that, I will get it next week for sure).

I am also one of those people who also just feels they were born in the wrong country. I just don't get on here there is something about the people, the weather is so dreary it looks so bleak in the Winter, the food is rubbish, people are unattractive to put it mildly, grey skies with grey buildings with grey pavement with grave roads and with grey people, it looks so bleak in the winter, all trees hav no leaves and just look like black sticks, they could at least plant some evergreen trees!

My husband and I have 3 young children and we are looking into moving to the UK for my husbands job, it’s always been a dream to live in / around Europe so we’re staying hopeful it comes true soon. Good lick with the visa - . At least you won't have to take the English language test, Before I had a stroke, I was looking into bringing my Thai wife to the UK on a settlement visa. As you know, the UK government does not make this process easy. Most people in the UK don't appreciate just how hard the process is and how expensive everything is. I live in Thailand and have to extend my visa every year but at least the process is relatively painless and not too expensive

Hi Alanna, your videos are great. I think it is very wrong that a Canadian living in the U.K. after 7 years still can’t apply for indefinite leave to remain and has to continue to pay the health surcharge. Regardless of what visa you’ve been on ( I know cases are different) you have been here for 7 years lawfully for goodness sake. Commonwealth citizens should be treated like close family by this country, not distant relatives. You are an asset to this country.

I sot of experienced the upping sticks going from one country and living in another. But as a Kid of 9 years old, I didn't have the headache you are having with visa's. It was and adventure emmigrating to Tronno and coming back here again in exactly one year later as a 10 year old. I do remember our family were a lot more poorer financially as well. It took a while to recover from that!!! Anyway, just to wish you a Happy New Year for 2023!

Hi Alanna...so glad to hear you'll be keeping at making videos. You're one of a very few bright spots on KZbin every week. I love a good book too. Here's a few selections you may like (as if you don't already have enough suggestions). 'Great Circle' by Maggie Shipstead is a really good one from a few years ago (it's about early flight and one young lady's quest to be a pilot). One of Steven King's lesser know novels is 'Gerald's Game' and is a fairly quick read 📚 but so engrossing you can probable get through it on a couple sessions. An oldie but real goodie is 'Mutiny on the Bounty'. It's a real page turner too. The 1984 movie 'The Bounty' with Mel Gibson is a great one to watch if you'd rather see it than read it. Take care and get better soon.

Commiserations over the cold. I had an awful one at this time in 2015/2016; I hope it clears soon. 2023 is starting roughly for me too, albeit illness is not the problem. I won't go into any detail here, for it is your channel and not mine - but I mean it when I say I'm glad you're there and I take solace in seeing your cheery face and jovial greeting. I started following your channel just at the point when you were "kicked out of the UK" a little over 3 years ago. You went away and came back again; I hope you don't have to do the same this year, but if you do, I'll hope for your return in triumph as you did last time. Presumably, whoever made that comment about your fertility was alluding to the proximity you have to the end of your third decade of life? Clearly they don't realise that quite a few women have held off on parenthood until their late 30s or even early 40s. It's true that falling pregnant past the age of 35 would have you classified as an "elderly primagravid" and that the risk of complications in pregnancy and childbirth can increase the older you get; likewise, you may become aware of your ticking biological clock and/or find yourself suddenly overcome with broodiness, especially if you see babies (and more so if you see friends and colleagues your age or younger having them) .... but there's no competition here! Having a baby is indeed a life changing decision that will change you forever. You may decide you prefer life without children; you may want to live a little more before having them; you may feel that you want to put certain things in place to stabilise and certify your situation before going ahead. The point you make about relocation is a good one: I have an old schoolfriend with three children who relocated to Australia some years ago; she did it while the children were young, thus they have been schooled almost entirely there and seem to identify as Aussies more than as Brits. Had she moved them in their teens, it might have been much harder on them and perhaps they might have resented it. It's good to know that you're open to exploring possibilities for yourself that you can document and ruminate upon via your channel. You are the second KZbinr in one day that has posted on these lines (the first being Kelsey, the 747 pilot whose channel 74 Gear is all about aviation) and the beauty of having a channel about yourself and your perspectives is that the channel can be whatever you want it to be, and show whatever you happen to be doing and want to document. Channel creators who start out with a USP may find that it stalls and desists, as trends change or subject matter is exhausted. I suspect you are very, very far from that, dear Alanna! Happy New Year and all strength to you.
