This was the month where I got to watch a screening of Little Miss Sunshine in 35mm with a tour of the projection booth to boot. I even got a poster of The Whale and the soundtrack to Mulholland Drive as souvenirs. That night was a legitimately magical experience

I watched Infinity Pool in May, partly because of your recommendation. And wow, what a movie. It's one of those movies that made me feel very weird coming back to the real world. It's like I had to mentally return to a world where there was no logic of cloning yourself. And it really shocked and grossed me out in a very good way. While it's not a completely perfect movie, I feel like it's underrated in terms of the relatively low IMDB score it has (6.1).

IMO both The Dirties and Operation Avalanche are very good films. Dirties is better imo, but they're both so unique and inventive that its hard for me to complain. All of Johnson's ideas just feel like a huge breath of fresh air, they're so different than anything else being made right now.

So I had seen the new Dungeons and Dragons movie in theaters with my friends but the flow felt weird to me for some reason. I rewatched it when it came out on Paramount+ and actually fell in love with it; just a great action comedy! I rewatched John Wick 4, the dragon's breath scene is INCREDIBLE. And then I rewatched one of the most underrated comedies of all time, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, everyone in that movie deserved Oscar nomination CHANGE MY MIND. And then finished the month off with rewatching The Nice Guys on a date and she loved and Ryan Gosling kills me every time I see it. Great video, I need to finish Barry and start Succession!

Honestly didn’t watch a lot this month but Barry fucking blew me away. I’m definitely biased but holy shit it is amazing and personally, I think it’s the pure artistry and risk in those last two seasons that seal it for me. Season 3 is my favorite season and I think the finale was just perfect!

Other than Guardians, I also watched Thief this month. And I do agree, deep down I want to say it’s better than Heat. And I think the reason why I don’t is because there’s a certain polish to Heat that Thief doesn’t have, but that’s also the charm of it.

barry slowly descended into darker themes and storytelling after season 2. some might hate that switch from comedy but bill hader's direction really made the story and characters much more layered. never thought i would be so invested in what fuches was going through.. same with sally

I completely forget which order I watched the movies this month, I keep a list ranking every movie I watch in a year, with a dash to indicate the movies that I haven't put in the comments here yet. Anyways, lowest on my list of this past month was Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I was expecting a lot worse. I liked it, though I wouldn't say it was great. I thought it was better than Temple of Doom, not better than the other 2 though. Next up was Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. It was a good time, though not quite what I expected it to be. I was expecting it to be a lot more goofy than it was I guess. Still an enjoyable movie. Next up is John Wick 4. I loved this movie, every action sequence was very enjoyable. I think the pacing was just a little too slow, the movie did not need to be almost 3 hours, but still an excellent entry in an excellent series. Lastly, my favorite of the month, Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3. I'm a huge MCU fan, of course I loved it. Easily a top 5 Marvel movie for me. As for rewatches, I rewatched the new Mario movie, and Into the Spider Verse. I loved the Mario movie on first viewing, though it doesn't hold up quite as well on repeat viewings. The pacing stuck out way more the second time, it's way too fast. The movie needed like 5-10 more minutes to fully develop the characters. As for Spider Verse, it's one of my favorite movies ever. Super excited for Across the Spider Verse, which I will be watching in around 3 hours. For shows, I watched The Muppets Mayhem. It's decent. I wasn't a huge fan of the human leads, they weren't the best actors, but the show was still enjoyable. A lot better than Muppets Now. Still haven't even finished that show, it was so boring for the muppets. I also watched like 1 or 2 episodes of Succession (early season 1). I suck at watching hour long shows at a decent pace. Fantastic show, hopefully I actually find time to watch it this month I didn't watch much this month because I sunk a solid 120 hours into Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. It's better than Breath of the Wild in almost every way. I didn't get too into BotW, but I can't stop playing TotK, even long after I've finished the story. Excellent game

I would've personally started with Sisters in terms of DePalma. As you go through his filmography you'll definitely notice the Hitchcock inspiration as well as the sleaziness he embraces with his films. Basically DePalma makes hard "R" perverted Hitchcock films.

Barry, as much as I adore the entire show, peaks in the middle imo. Season 1 is great, season 2 is somehow a big improvement on season 1, season 3 adds a lot of bizarre filmmaking styles on top of everything great about season 2, and then season 4 keeps up the momentum of season 3… until it screeches to a halt but still sticks the landing even though it felt rushed to me. They had enough material in season 4 to just make a longer season or make season 5. 3 is my favorite, closely followed by 2, 1 and 4 are still great but not as great. Great show, Bill Hader is on track to be one of our best working directors and actors.
