I loved Midnight Mass, it's the type of show where I intended on watching only one episode out of curiosity and ended up binge watching the entire 7 episodes instead. I watched it without even knowing it was a Mike Flanagan production at first, but I should have guessed seeing as Haunting of Hill House is my favourite TV show of all time. I've been realizing lately that Mike Flanagan has been directing some of my favourite horror movies as well, might be you could rank his movies/shows at some point too for a video or do a horror tv show ranking video, that would be neat! Anyway, sorry for the rambling, thanks for the great reviews, I'll definitely be checking out that Gonjiam: haunted asylum movie whenever I get the chance! :)

I went in without even reading the synopsis, just turned on Netflix and it was top trending at the moment. Had no idea it was from Mike Flanagan. Hill House is my absolute FAV! I really really enjoyed Midnight Mass. so much so that I’ve started a rewatch directly after my first binge. I’m noticing so much the second time around. Some great actors as well. He really has a way with a script!

The Collector is my favorite horror movie, and I personally don't think The Collection is better. Normally I'm not into gore and to be honest I'm not into the gore in the movie, it's more about Arkin's character development and the cinematography for me! Glad you gave it a try even if it wasn't for you! 🤪

After finishing Midnight Mass, my boyfriend immediately said it’s his favorite of the three Mike Flanagan shows. We both loved the discussions around religion (he’s an atheist), death, the afterlife, forgiveness, etc. My favorite Flanagan show is actually Bly Manor. Although we both love Hill House, we agree it’s the one that’s stuck with us the least. I think it’s the scariest one in the moment, but the themes of both Bly Manor and Midnight Mass have gotten under my skin more than those of Hill House. The ending of Bly Manor made me sob uncontrollably-I’m talking shaking/hiccuping/gasping sobbing-in a way I don’t think any other single piece of media ever has. I love my boyfriend so much and live in constant fear of losing him, so the discussion between Jamie/Flora about losing the love of your life destroyed me. It’s basically all I thought about for days afterward. So while I think Hill House and Midnight Mass are incredible and perfectly spooky, I consider Bly Manor to be my perfect brand of horror. It might not be as scary in terms of jump scares or gore or other classic horror elements, but it got right to the heart of some of my deepest real-life, everyday fears in a way that was disturbing and yet somehow still cathartic. It made me feel seen and incredibly vulnerable. I’ve been haunted by it since the day I finished it, and I can’t listen to Sheryl Crow’s I Shall Believe without crying.

Hell House LLC has like 2 or 3 parts that are actually scary, but it's an objectively bad movie. It may make you scared of getting glaucoma and vertigo though, with how blurry and shaky the entire movie is.

@@drasticbread249 well found footage is effective but tricky. Gonjiam is one of the better attempts. Hell House LLC is passable. But the scariest found footage movie I've seen is [REC] from Spain, remade as Quarantine in the US.

Ep6 of Hill House is one of my favourite things that exist in horror. Full stop, and I didn't think anything could come even close to that, but Midnight Mass was STUNNING. Those scenes in the rec centre were so gorgeous, visually, and some of the monologues (looking at you, Sheriff!) had me floored.

I think you should do a separate video for Squid Game instead of only reviewing it in your October recap. It's turned into such a phenomenon worldwide and is getting a lot of buzz as we speak. I love home invasion/slasher movies, like I would probably say that's my favorite horror genre, but they don't actually *scare* me. I really only get scared, like watch the movie through your fingers scared, from paranormal movies because of the fear of the unknown. In a slasher I know that the antagonist is just a person, but in a paranormal movie the jump scare could be some super unsettling image of a distorted face or something. Like that's the kind of stuff that makes me afraid of the dark.

That's the last and worst animal violence in the movie, so if that's your concern I'd say it's worth continuing. That's always the hardest thing for me in horror movies and I had to turn away during that and a few other earlier scenes but otherwise, I thought it was so good.

A Classic Horror Story falls short in my opinion because it sets up a lot of things from other movies because of the nature of the reveal, characters in the movie make horrendous dumb decisions which again is based upon the reveal, the ones that die I just didn't care about. It is a film with a good ideas in there but the execution was lacking with moslty dumb unlikable characters with not much back story. It's not one of the worst movies of 2021!

I usually love most movies that you love. However, Gonjiam was SUCH a disappointment. There is no character-development whatsoever. Almost at the one hour mark the only thing that had happened was a door shutting. It's nothing until everyone just keeps dying in the most bland and unoriginal ways. None of the characters are actually smart, and EVERYTHING about it screams uninspired. There isn't barely any story when you think about it. They don't actually explain what happened at the asylum, and them being there brings nothing new to an already existing situation.

Scream is overrated? Really? Maybe if it was 1996, I’d understand that perspective because of hype but, that was 25 years ago. I’m sorry, it was really hard to get past that take… I know it’s not your style of horror movie because it’s a home invasion slasher but c’mon. I think it deserves more credit than that. On another note, I didn’t like Malignant either despite its attempts to be callback movie to mid-2000’s horror. Definitely fell flat for me.

A Classic Story's plot is new? Cabin in the Woods was uber popular and did the same thing and THAT wasn't even knew. Plenty of tv shows, b movies have done, "It was all a movie" or "It wasn't real". I don't even remember thinking it was innovative when I watched Cabin in the Woods.

I would not have recommended A Classic Horror Story to you because I wouldn't have thought you'd like it. It's the nature of all these things. For me, there are so many films I admire but don't enjoy. Akira Kurosawa is a great film director and I don't like any of the films he's made, even though they're great. This makes so many people angry with me...

She was awesome! ☺ The Collector... what was 'uncomfortable' for me was how he set up so many traps in a couple of hours at most. Killed the whole thing for me. Number 2 was much better.

I just watched your video about negative comments and I have to get this off my chest. When you say these people are saying you’re not a horror fan because you like bad horror movies I think what they mean is you are a horror lightweight. Yes you are a horror fan but your taste is quite tame. There’s nothing wrong with that. You can like 13 Ghosts and House on a haunted hill and Texas chainsaw 3D and the ring but when there are movies like Eyes of my mother and pontypool out there and your favorite movie is still the ring it is seriously going to impact my opinion of your opinions. Watch those movies and if afterwards your opinion of your favorite horror movie hasn’t changed there’s no hope. Nothing will change your mind. And that’s fine.

The show easily fits into the religious/existencial horror genre and the whole humans are the real threat/ the real scary monsters vs the actual monster is a super common horror trope, so I'd definitely say it claims the label well for me. Whether you enjoy this kind of horror or not is a different story, of course, but it definitely was horror lol

I really did not like midnight mass I thought it was cheap and the dialogue was stilted and the characters seemed cheesy, relationships not believable etc. thought it was a typical bad netflix production edit: the one thing I enjoyed was the alcoholism plotline and the old alcoholic. the sheriff was a cool character too

I really loved Midnight Mass too. There were some amazing performances in this. It's definitely more on the drama side than the horror side, but it was so good and the religious/monster horror elements served the story so well.
