I just subscribed. Chemo took my hair, and I never knew what a gorgeous head of hair i had because of all the dye i put on it for 30 years. SO worth it!!! you have beautiful hair i applaud you for doing the transition. You are very wise for doing it younger than me and helping other women on their journeys. You my dear, are an absolute inspiration!!

I’ve finally decided to go for it. I tried during the lock down and grew it out 5 inches … was pretty proud of myself…. but got a lot of negative comments from people who were seeing me after 2 years. I think it was a shock to the,. To me eternal regret I re dyed my hair. It would have been easier to go grey 30 years ago. I’m 60 and very grey now… but I realize I’m fooling no one by dyeing my hair. I’m so ready now.

My first grey hair was white and was found at age 14. Started coloring it at 29.,temp color. Permanent color at age 35. Been coloring since then and now 2” of it shows and it’s all white. I wish mine was salt and pepper and not solid white. My white is the same as my colored dk brown.

I’m 66 and am just starting my transition. It took me about 2 years to get the courage to do this. I am so tired of dyeing my hair every 5 weeks and the cost of it was getting it done is ridiculous. I have a lot of gray and my hair grows pretty quickly so hopefully it won’t be awful. Wish me luck!

There was a big trend in the uk before and around covid lockdowns for going grey and cutting our own hair. I went back to dying about 2 years ago but going lighter to try to get used to my hair being lighter. Ive decided Im going to just let it go natural as I am leaving it longer and longer before doing my grey roots anyway. Im 54 this year and want to just be my natural self. Your hair looks lovely. 💗
@brookerobertsco9 ай бұрын
It's definitely a journey! I recommend getting low lights while you transition (instead of going lighter). When you go lighter, the dye can fade and start to look brassy. Whereas a darker color won't fade so quickly and won't give off such a warm tone. It's something I wish I would have tried. Good luck! I'm sure your hair will look stunning!

Love this! Thanks for sharing:) it is crazy how much damage hair dye does to our hair. My main reason for going gray is the chemicals being put on my head every 3 weeks. I am 6 mos in and LOVING this transition. And I’m 60 ✌🏼💖

I was getting tired of dying my hair and noticing my roots popping up 3 weeks later. It was getting tougher to cover and I couldn’t keep paying Salon prices or find the time to do it. I was mid 40’s at the time. It was my son who suggested I just stop dying it and let it grow out. My husband was on board with it too. Best decision I ever made, the freedom is awesome. I was a medium brunette color before and now I actually look like a Silvery blonde. In photos it looks blonde. I have had women ask me where I had it done, that’s the best compliment. It’s been 10 years now and I have even influenced friends and family to embrace their natural color. If I see a beautiful shade of grey on a stranger, I always make sure I tell them how beautiful their hair is.

The reason you didn't get any negative comments about your hair being grey is because you have healthy beautiful young looking eventoned skin. People don't care about color (other than fashion statement and self expression which is still typically positive/subjective). People complement others when they look healthy.
@BlueBird89254 ай бұрын
I think that’s partly it as well. I’m in my mid sixties. If I grew my hair out it would be mostly white and it’s frizzy, coarse and wavy. It wouldn’t look half as nice as hers. Also, a lot of people won’t tell you what they really think if it’s negative. That being said, it’s sad that more women don’t just grow it out. I wish I had the guts to do it. Her hair looks beautiful.

Even tho I was in my 60's when I went all grey a few yrs ago, I didnt know some much ugly brown would be mixed in and that the texture would never be bouncy and shiny again. I tried every clarifying, conditioning product on the market it seemed. Grey just didnt work on me- But I loved the color! This summer I thought to lighten everything and tone it with T18. Its not what I originally planned but my hair is looking so much better, more life, more fun. Some women just get lucky and their silvers are so great, texture works too but not me.

I went full grey in my early 40's and embraced it with grey dreadlock so felt like I was unique and rocked it whatever people thought but it wasn't great for my scalp so when the dreads went I had moved to a more conservative city than funky Melbourne so I started dying my hair again. I am turning 50 this year and am going to embrace my grey hair again. I am thinking of getting low lights and highlights as I don't think I can handle the skunk line....I have dark brown died hair....having gone through it would you only do low lights? I think you said you tried to get your hair coloured to match your grey....do you not think you would do that again if you had your time over
@brookerobertsco8 ай бұрын
I went to two different hair stylists to attempt to dye my hair gray or at least add gray highlights. Unfortunately, neither attempt worked - my hair actually turned green! If I were to do it all over again, I'd go in for regular low lights to disguise the skunk line and have them tone my dark/brown hair so it didn't look brassy. I have no idea if that would work - I'm not a hair stylist but that's my best guess on what might work to make the growing out stage less tedious. Good luck!

@brookerobertsco6 ай бұрын
I’m not sure. You could try low lights as your color fades. I’m not a hair professional sadly. 🤷🏻♀️
@breeal-rashid1185Күн бұрын
You can also switch to a demi-permanent to ease the transition. I also have very dark hair and my permanent color fades very red/orange. I had a pro put in a few highlights and I do my own demi as everything grows out. I’ve been increasing the level of color every few months to make that line and the permanent lengths softer. It will take me longer to truly go all gray but the demi will fade much more gracefully than just quitting the dye altogether. I’m okay with the trade-off. I’m thinking of it as growing out the permanent color first and (meanwhile) transitioning away from the pigment.

Your hair looks amazing! I have a grey hair question: I Stopped dying my hair a year ago, I have lots of silver streamers. (Yay!) but I notice that the top layer of my hair automatically turns brassy. It's very stubborn, and purple shampoo does nothing. I have thin hair and don't want to damage it. I'd really appreciate any advice!

I'm in my 9th year of going grey and it's not grey so much as silver/white shoulder length. Much like Emmylou Harris. I've had many positive comments. The one comment that hurt was from my older sister who said, "I liked your hair when it was brown". I said, those days are gone I can never be a brunette again. I would have grey/white coming through in 2 weeks. I went through a period of highlighting my hair so it was more blonde to cover the grey. I think it actually looks better grey than it did blonde. Really didn't want to put dye on my head anymore nor spend all that time & money on colouring. Very freeing actually.....

I got so close to the entire length of my hair being gray and then I went to walgreens and the lady gave me the senior discount, you can tell from my picture she was just being a bitch lol. and the hair stylist told me I was brave and I guess she is selling dye jobs. so I am deciding regionally here people are just being silly and afraid. I don't want a bunch of yucky dye on my hair and I love gray hair on everyone who has it including myself although those rude and silly comments drove me to dye my hair.
