My only regret about growing out my gray/silver was that I didn’t do it sooner because I listened to hairdressers tell me it would make me look older. Not true. Once I made my mind up about letting the dye go it didn’t matter to me what anyone had to say about it. I love my silver hair.

Thank you for you video. Your hair always looks beautiful! I turned 50 this year, so I decided that I was going to finally stop colouring my hair because constantly trying to cover that ‘skunk line’, was exhausting and expensive. My family and friends have not been very supportive and I was surprised at the negative comments I got from some of my co-workers when I expressed my desire to go grey. Some of the comments were that I would look much older than I am, and that I would look like I’d let myself go. Funnily enough, my hairdresser, was also against my decision ... so, I found a new hair dresser who was willing to help me transition to grey. I just decided to do it for ME for a change! Yes, it’s been hard trying to get used to a new look, but as the year has progressed, I’ve found such freedom in not needing to worry about a root touch-up every 4 weeks. I make sure my hair is well cut and in good condition and I’ve grown to love it! I heard someone say that transitioning to grey is not about letting yourself go, but about just letting go... I have found so much freedom in just holding onto that! Sending you love from Australia 🇦🇺❤️

You and your hair are SO gorgeous! I just cut off a lot of my hair yesterday because the color was washing out and it felt and looked like straw. I am a retired hairdresser. I have been wanting to go silver for years, but kept listening to the naysayers who were saying I looked "too young to make myself look old". I tried to do it at 40, then again and fifty, and now and sixty, I am going for it! People will probably not tell me that I look too young to do it anymore,LOL. This time I plan on ignoring the rude people and comments from here on in. I feel sad that people are so rude on the internet and in general.What has made people so rude and ill mannered these days? When let go of the wigs and weaves and went natural 4 years ago, I was at the mall with a friend and this guy asked my friend if I was her mother. I was mortified and walked away from them. At first the transition had a few rough patches but for the most part I have had an amazing response to it. People think it's cool and like you said ask if I dyed my hair this color. I'm more salt n pepper and I almost wish I was straight grey because I like uniformity better. I have had my hair dyed grey for a photo shoot and a couple of fashion shows and people went bonkers for it. They wanted me to keep the color but I couldn't because it would bleed off unto clothing, hands, etc. They told me I looked like "Storm" (the comic book character). So I know at least when it does change all the way over, people will love it. Your hair is gorgeous.

I love your hair and your attitude! My last hair coloring was on Feb 8, 2019. I normally had blonde hair with low lights and bleach highlights. I've been using overtone colors (silver and rose gold, sometimes purple) on my hair I'm growing out and my bleach highlights really pickup the color which has made the transition so much easier. My grey doesn't really pickup much color. In certain light I can see a blue hue on my grey which comes from Overtone's silver (it has a blue base). I will be 50 in October and just got tired of it....spending so much etc. I haven't received any negativity, at least to my face. I have received MANY compliments especially from younger ladies. Some would love to have the color that I have naturally growing in which makes me feel quite trendy, which I have never been :) I enjoyed the video and am getting ready to watch your facial care video. After month 6 , I got excited about how soft and healthy the growth was. After 8 mos , I had fun adapting makeup . 18 months into it , with an obvious grombre , I was fully committed to being in love with all the unique things my hair did. White hear , brown there , slate mixed in. It's been great. 👍

I think cold turkey is the best thing to do if you are brunette. I am also a brunette and managed to grow out my grey hair (I’m about 50% grey, it depends where it is on my scalp). I was “lucky enough” that the front section of my hair was still brunette and that tiny amount of brunette really covered over my greys in a pony tail. Could you do a few months growth perhaps then have a pixie cut? I had cut my hair to just about below my jaw bone and keep having regular trims. It was a huge change for my as I have always had long hair. Time goes quickly and I think you will be glad once you had gone past the first 6 months. I also like the idea of having a buzz cut then wearing a pretty wig. If I was 100% grey I would seriously consider that option. Perhaps not the best though if you live in a warm climate.

Haters are going to hate! I'm in the process of growing out my hair and going grey. I've bought a wig so if I have a special occasion I can make my hair presentable till I get through this process. But I'm tired of paying to have my very resistant grey colored. So cheers to us! I've made the decision and plan to follow through!

I think you look great! And that you have embraced your natural hair colour is commendable. Who cares about people making negative comments? This is your natural hair colour. I personally think that as we age, our skin tone and texture changes. My natural hair colour is a dark brown. I am about 7/8 weeks into not colouring my hair. I think that as you age, colouring your hair can age you especially if it's a dark colour. You look beautiful. You rock your grey hair!

I stopped coloring my hair 2 yrs ago. I’d been highlighting or coloring my hair for 35 years. I’m in my mid 50’s and the I’m the only one of my friends that’s gray. My husband and best friend have been complimentary, but I’ve gotten negative comments too. And been told that I’m brave, lol. I love the freedom!

I started my journey by shaving all my off to raise awareness for CancerFreeze in 2012, and to pay tribute and honor my beautiful mama who was a 9year breast cancer survivor, she passed away in 2009. The day I shaved all my hair off which was in February 2012, I decided I would never color my hair again. I can honestly say it was the best decision for me. What made it even more wonderful was when it started to grow back it was the same beautiful color my mama had. Its a beautiful white on top, gray and silver on back and sides. I have naturally curly and wavy hair and I love rocking my short asymmetrical pixie and I absolutely love it. What I can say is just be you and embrace this wonderful amazing journey. Good luck to you all on the way to becoming Silver and white Sisters. I love my hair color and style now.

"I don't have to color my hair anymore" - this is the biggest advantage! After years of dealing with roots/whole hair dying, it gets so tiresome. Plus the healthy aspect. You look very young for grey hair and I think it looks fab. I absolutely love grey on young women (those that do it on purpose - with a young face it looks so good). I went grey at 56 and haven't regretted it at all. Embrace the grey! One great tip!!!: I followed one woman on UTube who only colored the roots as the rest of the hair turned grey, such an easy, great transition. Even my hairstylist said it was the best way to go natural and recos this method to other clients I wear my grey proudly - at my age I think it's just fine to be your age and not be ashamed. Plus I have a young spirit and cute groovy haircuts really help.

I'm 56 now and into my 2nd yr natural. your natural color is so much more flattering to your face and I didn't realize that until people started asking me if I had gotten cosmetic work done because my skin was glowing. it actually had nothing to do with my skin it had more to do with using unnatural hair dye when my age and face needed my softer and natural gray hair.
@laurencemattioli22774 жыл бұрын
Fluidx808 May I ask who you followed on utube who only coloured their hair at the roots to make the transition easier? Because I've decided to go gray at 48! Thanks so much.
@Fluidx8084 жыл бұрын
@@laurencemattioli2277 It was a couple of years ago and now I can’t find the vid anywhere! Ugh! Anyway the concept is pretty easy. You can do it yourself or go to a stylist and ask them to do it. First off I was dying all of my hair, since most of it was already going grey, and would touch up the roots as need. I stopped dying all the hair and started just doing the roots… as the roots grow out, keep colouring them. In the meantime, the rest of the dyed hair will start washing out. There will at some point be a bit of a transition line between freshly dyed roots and the natural hair below. However it looks much, much better than having grey roots to deal with and the dyed roots do wash out. Also note I have medium to shortish layered haircuts so that helped to make it look interesting. As I said, my stylist thought it was an awesome way to go! She wouldn’t dye all of my hair grey due to the damage it would cause, so this was the best option. Good luck! I have absolutely no regrets going grey :).

Thank you for sharing your journey. I love your story and took the same route as you with some grey highlights to help blend the line. It's been almost 2 years and I am now fully transitioned. I agree with all your pros and cons! One advice is to show confidence in your choice of going grey - I didn't ask my family and friends what they thought about me going grey, I announced it. And I got no negative comments (they didn't dare telling me is my guess...and I prefer that!).

You are an inspiration, Melanie! I started my journey four months ago. I am a natural brunette and have bleached my hair for years to deal with the gray. I think the most surprising thing has been seeing what color my hair actually is as it comes in.

Yes!!!! I once had an “ex” tell me he would leave me if I stopped coloring my hair. I now wonder why I let his opinion influence me but it did. I stopped coloring my hair a few years back and I absolutely love it. It is the same color as yours and I constantly am getting compliments. When people say they would like to go gray but fear it will be an “ugly” gray I tell them that it’s all in the products that you use. Anyway, your hair is gorgeous! I started finding gray hairs when I was 13 and now I'm nearly 37. I last dyed my hair 8 weeks ago and while I have dye here, I just haven't wanted to bother with it. My inch of roots are almost completely silver so I am taking the plunge and growing them out. I have a pixie cut, so getting rid of the color shouldn't take long. My next haircut is in 4 weeks, my hair is like to look like a mop by then. I'm so excited to see what the color is like though! Thanks for the video and the confidence boost to keep going! Your hair is amazing, I can only hope my hair looks even close to that!

I think your hair is beautiful. I decided 2 years ago to stop coloring my hair. It was so damaged, and felt like straw. I have received so many compliments on my hair, since I’ve let it grow out. I thought it would make me look older, but I figure it’s natural, so this is the color it should be. The growing out part, was the worst, but I just kept it up in ponytails most of the time. It is so much softer and healthier, and I’ve come to embrace it.

To the point of having only 1 bff & she passed last March. I don't regret losing people who I thought were my friends. So now I'm focusing as I've always done on raising my teen daughter alone. You really are beautiful!! And I love your attitude that I see!!

I liked your video, good tips and honest story. My hair is baby fine like yours and very dark. I never dyed my hair until last October in lockdown. It looked good for a while then the grey came through, not just the rotos. I didnt like how the colour faded it was not good. So cold turkey is working but not easy. I am 10 months in and I know I can do it. I am looking at products for hair and clothes as well. You look amazing, your natural hair is beautiful. Negative comments are hurtful but dont let them get to you.

I enjoyed your video, I am on my journey to gray, I am 67 and just done with hair dye, I am doing cold turkey, yep, I will not do a pixie cut etc. I started going gray at the age of 40, beautiful auburn hair. The last time I went to my hairdresser was 6/23/2021, my color did not look good, this is when my decision to just let go. As i look at my hair in the mirror today 9/28/2021 I see the most beautiful silver crowning my head, my husband loves it, tells me it looks cool, winter is coming I will start a slow process of cutting my hair a few inches at a time. I have no problem with a granny bun. It is just a rite of passage for me, let go and let live. I earned every single gray hair I have. ty for video

Thank you for you video! I am 33 and I've found my first gray hairs on my head this year. I don't color my hair regularly ( like once a year with a shade or two lighter in the summer. I've decided to stop coloring all together and let my hair be all natural. I want my gray hair to grow in naturally as it increases over the next how ever many years. I don't want to have to ever go through a gray hair transition with colored hair so I thought I'd be best to let it grow in naturally in my 30's. Lol Love the advice and experience you shared.

Wow! Your hair is gorgeous! I wanted to go gray when I turned 40, but a few older women told me I was too young. I decided on 50, but when I turned 45 last year, I thought I couldn’t wait 5 more years. So I’m 2 months in and I can’t wait to go through this transition. I’ve never been attached to my hair. It’s thick, wavy/curly, grows super fast, and I spend way too much time collecting the hair that falls out in the shower, and making sure it doesn’t go down the drain. I lose gobs of hair when I wash it. I have always been able to walk into a salon and have a beautician cut it all off. That shocks most people, but my hair has always been a burden to me. I’m so excited to have the freedom! No more mixing my own color and finding little spots of brown color splattered around my bathroom! 😊 Thanks for your video!

Hello, your hair looks great. Very well said, I love your advice thank you for sharing your pros and cons. I'm on my silver grey journey, 6 months so far and I love it! So far I haven't gotten any negative feedback, I guess it's because I have light brown hair and the colors are blending together, now I have silver, medium brown and light brown hair all dancing simultaneously with each other, it's truly beautiful and it feels healthier as well. I can't wait to see my hair when it all grows out.🤗❤

Have been dye-free for just over a year now. Watching KZbin videos (including yours) and joining a couple of gray hair FB groups gave me the confidence to stay with it. Am 69 now, wish I had done it much sooner; started to grow it out in my early 50s, but when a friend told me how awful I looked (she has since apologized) I immediately caved and went back to coloring it. Your hair is just beautiful, love it!
