I would also like to add that what you do to make money does not necessarily have to be what you love. You don't have to love the job that makes you money, as long as it doesn't make you absolutely miserable in the process! You don't have to define yourself by the "work" you do, as in, what you do to earn an income. That doesn't have to be what your anchor is. It's great if the 2 things are the same! People are very lucky if they can achieve that. But I shed a lot of anxiety by realizing that I don't have to have my "dream job" as long as I find happiness and joy in other ways in my life. This way, I can be content in any job I find, I can be content if I lose it, because it's not my anchor, it's not what I love about life, it's not who I am. Especially when you're young, remember there are many decades you have left to live. Your "dream job" may even change as life goes on. I worked for 12 years of school to achieve a goal, and hated every minute of it, and now 8 years later I'm nowhere near it, and I've never been happier.

In Europe it is very common to not use or have a credit card. We usually have a checking account that we use for everything and so it is less likely to get in depth. Not sure if this is possible in the US or anywhere else but I can highly recommend it.
