4 hooded man is a time based quest if a certain days passed the hooded man will die or something it was my first mistake ive done so i have to completely restart from the start (it rewards books)

i only missed the red one when i did my first playthrough but the book you get from him aint even good. All other hooded figures give some of the best books in the game.

Another tip, always check your map cargo and storage before leaving the dock. The clock doesn't run when your simply dock side and checking your map the second you undock wastes time. Also, it's frustrating getting to a pile of rubble you want to clear and leaving the explosives back in storage. You can access storage from a number of docking places, but not all of them so plan accordingly. Also, transfer cargo regularly to storage, especially if you're carrying something valuable. It sucks to run into rocks are a sea monster that damage your ship and lose what every item you needed for your quest over the side. Don't let yourself get distracted because your on location or passing an area you want to explore if you're carrying important cargo. Get to dock and get it unloaded they go back and retrieve it. Don't carry important items in cargo less unless you are going to specifically use it at the risk of having it go overboard in an accident. You should also move timbers, spare parts, rolls of cloth and refined metal to the dry dock as you unlock upgrades. You don't want to spend $400 bucks for a roll of refined metal then lose it when you're out fishing because you forgot to transfer it to storage from cargo. One more useful tip, use the "manifest" / teleportation tool to get back to the Greater Morrow area of the map instantaneously when away at one of the distant regions. It saves you all that time out on the ocean when you want to make a return voyage, like to sell trinkets or you want to journey to the other side of the map. It can give you a chance to rest as well if you're wanting to go from one side of the map to the other rather than be out on the ocean for over 24 hours getting all paranoid.

Regarding your first point: The clock only runs when you move so just checking the map is fine and does not waste time. In fact, you can stand still on the water with nothing open and the clock will still be paused since you're not moving.

I wouldn't call this one (re: explosives) a crucial/key one, but it CAN be rather convenient. I, myself, didn't fuck around much with the various blocked off locations once I had explosives simply because one could usually visually see what was beyond the rocks and it was usually just some rare fish or dredge, but clearly nothing necessary to game progression. However, once I had nearly beaten the game and I was trying to be completionist, I discovered it was really convenient just to keep 1-2 charges on me, tucked into an otherwise unused corner of my large inventory. So that would be my suggestion relative to the explosives: as soon as you unlock them, try to just keep 2 measly cubes of inventory space open for at least 1 of them. You basically only ever need 1 of them -some such blocked off areas have 2 blockages, but only 1 of them ever needs to be blown up to get in (it's just coming at the same blocked inlet from 2 different sides).

Spamming short taps on Haste will get you longer distance faster than holding Haste till it fills up then letting it cool down. Haste brings your ship to max speed nearly immediately, and after releasing it, your ship slows down to regular speed over time, so you can stay very near top haste speed indefinitely by mashing at the right rate to keep the engine heat at constant level.

There are 4 robed cultist NPCs hidden away on otherwise unimportant islands, and they will give you a task, requesting 3 fish, one at a time. If you find one of these cultists, do their task ASAP, as speaking to one starts a hidden timer, and if you are too slow that cultist will die and you won't be able to get their reward (which, for each one, is a pretty good book)

If you find a hooded figure DO NOT talk to them, there are 4 of them and they're all timed quest. You'll need to find fish for each of them or they'll starve but if the quest won't start timing until you talk to them, this are the only missable books and they pretty good.

Tip 11:Always watch your Panic meter! Failing to do so opens the possibility of your fish getting randomly Infected,jagged rocks randomly appearing in your path or losing your fish to bloody magpies.

Tip 12: Bloody magpies are afraid of your fog horn. Also, the purple clouds turn grey and harmless if you switch your lights off, although you seriously risk running onto rocks if you do.

That and also they’re efficient as heck considering they get the most bang for your buck if we consider how much “speed” there’s in a cargo square, by the time you unlock the other two engines you could’ve already purchased the 5 points one that’ll continue to be useful even to the point of maxing out your engine capacity, and it’ll give you speed comparable to purchasing the biggest engine available for a fraction of the total points required to unlock it. They’re expensive for the early game but they’ll totally let you forget about getting new engines and focus your research points on the other trees, also as you mentioned, if a hull damage happens you’ll not be gimped out of all of your speed unlike using the biggest and clunkier alternative engines.

Don't sleep after receiving the package from the Mayor early in the game. If you wait too long to deliver it then it spoils and you don't get any money for the delivery!

Fishing a fishing spot to depletion doesn't matter much. If you deplete all the fish they return in 3 days as opposed to 1.5 days to restock if you leave some. I often find this doesn't matter when you're traveling around a lot so it's more expedient to get every possible fish from a site.

I bought the max amount of crab pots available and then go do the things I want to do and by the time I get back I get a free 2 to 3 thousand dollars which is a godsend if you just got destroyed or need a lot of money to upgrade

I see the game has a day counter. Is there a day limit before I run out of time to do things? If I take too long, do I get the bad ending? Will certain events only happen on certain days? Or is the day counter just for keeping track of time and if I so please I can just go at my own pace?

using haste increases panic, you only need to research the first pot upgrade that last 5 days the rest of your research parts should be use on engine and rod upgrades, in the beginning of the game your loaded with loot but choked on cash but very quickly that flips and not having enough money becomes a monetary setback

Im pretty sure it doesn't matter. The only problem I found was that it is hard to get to the inventory of a specific crab pot when they are so close to each other. That's a bit annoying, but the effectiveness shouldn't be affected.
