The rich contribute more to society through their various companies (read: Microsoft, Amazon, Spacex, and similar) than they would if they actually paid all their taxes. The government is terrible at managing the money they already receive, imagine if they got MORE of it. Clearly misunderstanding birthrates issue. It's not number of people that's an issue is the demographics of people. If birthrates continue to decline your going to have a society when the majority of the people are old, not young. All of the existing support for the elderly relies on the young to pay into social programs and support the elderly. Your society becomes too top heavy and you can no longer provide for everyone

@@davidbascom5781 You have to design a system that can handle deflation as readily as it does inflation. In the current system inflation is considered normal, even desirable up to a point, but if things start to shrink everything goes to shit real fast. It is, by design, not a stable system. It's meant to fail eventually, but in a gradual way to funnel the maximum amount of resources to the top first. That's why the divide between rich and poor is ever increasing - it's by design.
@andrewm5629 Жыл бұрын
Demographic imbalances in the future will lead to massive burdens (ie. If you want to solve taxes you have to stop taxing income and tax goods and services, the ultra rich can avoid having an income but can’t avoid things like property tax or sales tax, which already scales with wealth

You're assuming that when you stop taxing income people are going to go on max spending spree which is not going to happen. They're also so many more issues with no more income tax. If you want to tax the wealthy its the elimination of loopholes and a higher threshold.

@@burtreynolds8030 Sure but from a macro perspective it can be tough to justify in an ideal and good system taxes are distributed to the well being of people for example countries with high rates of tax provide services to all such as free health care and cheap transportation and other forms of support like social security are things like that bad? They're bad if your rich as fuck lol. In addition certain countries avoid income taxes why? because they have huge sources of government income from commodities or from certain rules like Bermuda saying spend 250k at least to not pay taxes. Going back to the consumer and the long term if you cut taxes on income and start taxing more on spending of goods in real terms does that really change how a consumer spends if your moving the tax burden from one area to another?

I think his point wasn't that taxes were bad, but that the system is subverted by the extremely wealthy and those that are not at the highest strata of the socioeconomic system are put through the wringer via taxes. He more so advocates that the ability to avoid paying taxes by moving to tax havens should be dealt with, or the tax system be made easier or "more user friendly" as he puts it. Anyone who battles against taxes as a concept are foolish, but in this instance I think he (and many others as this is not a new concern by any means) has a very good point.
@morganwartman8507 Жыл бұрын
@@odinscorzelli9013 I agree he has a point about the complexity of the tax system but this is a very nuanced debate and many people do not enjoy the prospect of paying half of your salary to the government in order to ensure the lazy have a social safety net and can continue being lazy without dying. I agree with some social welfare programs and have even come around to universal healthcare but there are a ton of social welfare programs that are just a complete waste of money and only encourage people to stay unemployed so they can keep taking in the benefits that the government provides. I’d be happy to go into more detail if you would like to have a good faith discussion about this

Tommy isnt right but not necessairly wrong on some points. Like Immigration, countries dont need immigration because the issues he talked about can easily be fixed and tbh are not actually a problem most of the time, myself and most my friends work these so called "Low paying jobs" or whatever. And actually when it comes to migrant workers it has been in my experience not a very good source of workers as they have very often been shit at the job. But also we do have a low birth rate problem in Europe, but all we need to fix it is for people to have 2-3 kids each, it can be fixed by giving more welfare for having kids. Changing the demograpic of the population in a country too much will cause problems, Look at Mali with no single majority demograpic the country is in a civil war. Some pockets of immigrant are fine but you cant just import massive numbers, it will cause a rift between the native population and the immigrants. Just a fact of life. Btw, if you are gonna respond then make sure you read my whole comment word for word, i dont want to deal with someone who just nitpicks stuff to flame me.
