Since the ban is based on AI ability, anything that has similar performance to the 4090 and higher going forward would also not be able to be sold in China.

I thought the 5090 is coming out in 2025? They usually launch a new series in September. The 4090 Super is due to come out in January. I don't think the 5090 is coming that soon.

There were some talks about delays but normally we get new gen every two years. It can be delayed to September 2025 or January 2025. Or not delayed at all. Even if rumours are real at this point the plans may be changed.

Seriously, 4 generations in a row without any architectural improvements. Why doesn't AMD just sell Radeon already? I'm sure there is some potential purchaser out there that will take graphics seriously and aggressively innovate and compete. AMD obviously has no interest in doing that.

Also, strong enough raster performance can do RT. Deep learning and advanced Nvidia denoising are only needed because the raw horsepower of the card isnt up to the task of rendering RT. Thats where the AI stuff comes in. If the cards dont need AI to fill in the gaps, we could see a pivot in the industry away from deep learning and the whole world just gets super strong gaming GPU's that dont need it.

It is unlikely that you can replace current AI accelerated tasks like RT and DLSS with pure raster performance. There is a huge gap.

@@n.erdbeer Yes, we are talking orders of magnitude. But remember we are orders of magnitude better off now, than when we first invented computer graphics.
@n.erdbeer11 ай бұрын
@@aaronriggs4430 yes, that's true but it becomes increasingly more difficult to shrink the nodes in order to reduce power draw and get more performance for similar power consumption. GPUs became bigger and bigger for a reason to maintain cooling. Hence why the raster performance didn't went up by the same margin as ai acceleration. We talk at least several generations but by then AI is even further and we won't ever go back to pure raster performance. :)

What is this about? I only watched like 3 minutes. And it seems like it's for people who already know about 4090 ban. So he's not gonna talk about it. Talk to me as someone who hasn't heard about 4090 ban either.
@HardwareAccent11 ай бұрын
My bad :( I assumed that people knew about the 4090 ban. The US banned the export of the 4090 (and some data center GPUs) to over 40 countries, with a particular focus on China. As a result, AIBs rushed to send their products to China, creating a shortage and price increase for that GPU. Due to the ripple effect, it may be affecting the prices of the 4080 and 7900XTX, which should be lower at this point.
@youluvana11 ай бұрын
Why did they ban the export? Because of military/economic use of AI? Sorry to bother. For some reason I think this might lead to better info than googling it. Am I being stupid? @@HardwareAccent
@HardwareAccent11 ай бұрын
@@youluvana The explanation was rather vague, from what I understand, and in line with your assumption. Generally speaking, the US believes that China, along with over 40 other countries, should not possess this technology for US national security reasons.

More money for AMD only means better product R&D from them. Maybe RDNA5 will be banned too lol

I just wonder how china will react on the long term. What if they "counterban" by not providing rare minerals anymore to the US. Those are not only needed for GPUs and mainboards etc, but for the car and electronical industry, hospital equipment, grandmothers electro-wheelchair oh kuuuurwaaa 😏 Everything will be more expensive... Nvidias export AI market will suffer from the US export bans but does it really matter for them? I think in the long term the US might adjust the requirements since technology and GPU progress further and further. In the worst case those countries would have to deal with lower- high end GPUs I recon. Buut who knows..
@sniety1311 ай бұрын
China has already been trying to do that (to restrict exports for some rare earth minerals), but I don't think that they can realistically hurt the US (by increasing the restrictions) without shooting themselves in the foot in the process, as this would only lead to the relocation of rare earth production out of China in the long term.
@srobeck7711 ай бұрын
China is primarily an exporter (they wouldnt opt to lose billions in revenue, thats just silly talk). All those "rare minerals" are in abundance in Alaska if not for the tree huggers banning mining. This is all about symbolic posturing and ego checking. Notice how is only the 4090, so bascially most of the rich elites are government workers in China. This is a big F-U, ego check to them, which they need.
