I hate the term "Deficit" and YES it is Hyper awareness. I used to joke that I didn't have Attention Deficit Disorder I had Attention Surplus Syndrome, or ASS as my ex used to call me. I am 70, and retired, so now I don't really ever need to sit in a boring situation and stay focused, so I am free to follow whatever whim pops into my mind. This can be annoying. I will be cleaning the kitchen and find a screwdriver that needs to be put away, so I head out to the garage to put it away, see a mess that needs cleaning up, and find a bunch of rags that need washing, so I go to the laundry room to do a load of wash, but it's not a full load so I go upstairs to get more stuff to make a full load, and then decide to make my bed, and suddenly find myself asking "What the hell am I doing in the bedroom making my bed when I am supposed to be cleaning the damn kitchen. It helps to have a sense of humor.

11:15 A special trait of AD(H)D is that both of your prefrontal cortices (task mode and default mode) always work together at the same time - while for non-AD(H)D-people they only work alternatingly. task mode = follow steps in order to accomplish a goal. default mode = while walking stay balanced and feel where each step has to go to. Its said that AD(H)D-people back in the days were hunters (see all details of your surroundings while developing strategies), while non-AD(H)D-people were farmers (either plant seeds - or harvest - but always sequentially one after the other). Our current school system is geared towards farmers - and towards girls (sit still, learn to behave - instead of active learning of physical mechanics, like assembling stuff). As a creative/active/male hunter/AD(H)H-Person you really have to fight with your nature against the (by humanity) self imposed hurdles and incompatibilities towards the stuff you're demanded to do... Big compliment and respect to those, who made it through it all anyways and managed to find ways to keep pace and fit in. 💪🎵🎨🔧💛

Where did you find out that people with ADHD were hunters and that non-ADHD people were farmers?

To be shutdown or to be myself is the question… some of us learn to shutdown without ever getting medication 😅 it is a survival technique. Do you drink tea or coffee? I believe in my early youth I discovered coffee at about the time I should have been put on adhd meds … any support for ADHD was missed which today completely baffles me looking back it was so obvious! I think I might like a shutdown pill, for being on all the time is entirely exhausting … neurotypicals seem to have no idea how exhausting daily life is for those with hyper awareness …

So much of what we’ve been convinced is the right and civilized thing to do, is not natural or beneficial to us. Glad you’re doing well.

For me my entire life has been similar in terms of focus, not in the hyperactivity so much though. I never took it too seriously and the medication process was something I put off, but over the years now that I have done everything I possibly can on my own; changing my lifestyle, diet, location and introduced good habits like meditation, mindfulness and other stuff and I still can't get the stuff I need to do done.. I am at the point where I have accepted that the benefits I feel with Aduvanz definitely outweigh the side effects and it might open up a future for me where even I can study, or at least not have to sleep half the day. Great video, thanks for sharing!

I hope many especially younger children see this and look at it in a different way. You worded it wo deeply and more school systems need tp get into that mind set.🤞

3:13 same for me - except my mom, which until then only fed me self cooked high quality bio meals - very healthy and well balanced - got scared that I'll get to thin and decided that I should gain some weight. I was almost force-fed my favorite meal (french fries), what I usually only got once every two weeks. Every day french fries and ice cream for desert. I didn't thought anything bad from it - I was just happy about it and ate fries with ketchup and mayo until I felt stuffed - and then ice cream - and it got refilled - like a game every day of "how many ice cream can I stuff after I'm full"... After two weeks - ONLY TWO WEEKS - I gained so much fat, that on a skinny body I had a visible life belt / swimming ring. My mom said "oh, now thats enough with that eating! Now we gotta dial it back". And then - what for years was "eat as much as your body wants - you can always eat more and its fine" turned into "always cut your eating short before feeling done. Always feel hungry and sluggish. Never be satisfied by eating anymore. From now on have your mood and thoughts constantly be dictated by feelings of hunger". I NEVER got rid of the fat anymore and instead of jumping around and being happy about being thin I was ashamed to show myself and couldn't get rid of constant thoughts about hunger and how displeased I am with my body. That happened when I was 14 - and since then I never thought of my body as attractive anymore. Since then my weight only grew. Now I'm a bit overweight (about/over 90kg at 185cm). Since then I feel like I can't enjoy many parts of life anymore in this body - like its already over and there are only joys with (more and more) compromises left. I try to focus on the good and ignore/fix the rest. I'm good with things thats involve the mind/creativity/intelligence. But the physical stuff disappoints me everytime I think about it.

Thanx for sharing. My niece was on similar drugs. I was quite surprised to experience her on them vs off them. Off them, she seemed happy yet mischievous and vibrant, full of energy, On them, she became, as you said, almost robotic. She sat on the couch, quietly, staring off into the distance. I thought perhaps she was bored or wanted to do something. I would ask her if she wanted to play or watch tv and she would say no to everything and that she was fine. It was a very strange experience, very abnormal for a child.
