Fascinating take, interestingly I've noticed a resurgence of viewers looking back more fondly on Age of Ultron, whereas people felt it was disappointed when compared to the first Avengers movie, now some feel that in a certain way it has areas of which it improved, really like your take though.

+The Man Who Belches Those videos are still around- they're set to private- but they never had anything to do with my viewership. They're not my best work, they were leeching from disney-history based attention which isn't hard to find on youtube, and the numbers stalled with a very niche minority of vocal fans. I'd get a lot of views on a disney video, but not many subscribers. Now it's more even and I think that says a lot about the improving work. If I could make it a regular thing, I guess it would be nice to see how well that holds up. It might be interesting to revisit disney sometime this year, once Ultron's done. I'm not very interested in their future but there's always plenty to say about the effect of films past. I'd like to do something more constructive/substantial than my older history videos and see what people think.

+B- Mask Yeah sadly this film appears to rely on fans who just want the movie regardless of quality. Some have expressed protest by refusing to see the movie, hoping that it will encourage the studios executives to rearrange the management of their movies in the creative writing department, sadly I doubt it would make a difference :( Its a shame, DC deserves better than this.

+The Ponderer Thanks man, but you know it's interesting- I had to go back through the original movie with a fine tooth comb after writing this vid up, and a lot of the suggestions I made were already in there, including Ultron being more like a kid than I initially gave credit, like you said. But tonally and the way some stuff is framed is so flippant that it's either really easy to miss or put on the backburner for the louder, more outlandish material (I love humans so much I'm going to DROP A CITY ON THEM.) I think a lot of people I know and online who disliked the movie totally missed all of that material for simillar reasons (though I won't speak for them directly, there may be plenty of other reasons too.) I'll expand on this kind of stuff in part 2 but don't feel too disheartened about me potentially putting the existing film down. I've re-assessed how I feel about it several times after initially writing this up, and while i'm not a fan I think people shouldn't put you down if you do. Haha how did this comment end up so looonggg I'm sorry

There's this brilliant (but also insanely long) video about the movie by a guy called Steve Baxi that I think really puts the whole thing in a new light.I love most of the MCU stuff (Thor 2 and IM2 being the big exceptions) but it's looking through AoU with that lens that really made it one of my favorites.

I think you lose bit. Taking the avengers from the tower ruins the idea of them trying to be gods. Avenger tower is mount Olympus, under them are men as symbolised by the fireman statue.

No offense to this channel: But I want to make it very clear that I agree with how they could have made this story or the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe more interesting. Here is the problem. Money. Hollywood is a factory trying to pump out these movies for profit. If a story is good enough, the audience will buy it, the parents have an easy time explaining it to the kids and that is that. Chris Stuckmann had an excellent point with the analysis of The Force Awakens. Which was less of an analysis of the film and more of an analysis on US the audience. He said that if we keep indulging the movies and keep buying the tickets - the production companies will think 'Hey this is good enough' the profits are good, and this formula is good enough. Disney said they plan on releasing a Star Wars movie EVERY YEAR! Well mark my words and hold me accountable if I am wrong - but be prepared fans, the story content is going to sink drastically.

+Lefty Guns Always blaming the studios is a cop out. It's not like they skimped on the writing budget. They paid Joss Whedon a pretty penny, so unless there is some info out there about the studio hamstringing Whedon, the fault has to lay with him (imo, an overrated hack, so take that for what it's worth).

+SeptusCap +Lefty Guns I think the truth lies somewhere in-between. Whedon admits there was a huge amount of pressure but that all the decisions were his. The studios have been fighting with a creative panel that no longer exists after the edgar wright incident on Ant Man and were clearly more interested in the Russo Brothers take after Winter Soldier. It's interesting because while making this video, I had to look at a lot of what Whedon was doing/note all of the dialogue in the film, and the crazy thing is that a lot of what I asked for thematically and idealistically is sort of there. Tonally and in terms of actual character action however, it really doesn't come across and tends to be lost for the sake of the surrounding universe and whedonistic laughs. Plus that romance and stuff like wtf. So yeah, both of you have a point. I think Ultron suffers for being in the middle of a shift in creative control and hollywood movie making culture. We'll have to see how it pans out for Civil War.

B- Mask I thought they could have played up the "you guys are creating more problems than you're fixing" angle, eg. giant alien invasion. It seemed like they would when we were first introduced to Ultron, but by the end we learn the "change" he was talking about is just mass genocide. It destroyed any meaningful growth the avengers could have had and turned it into a "put aside our petty differences to stop true evil for the nth billion time!"
