I feel like what caused Blur to become a financial failure was it's release year of 2010 which had an oversaturation of racing games releasing that year, many high quality games such as Bioshock 2, NFS Hot Pursuit 2010, Gran Turismo 5, Halo Reach, and many more, and finally Split/Second,Modnation Racers, and Blur released barely a few weeks from each other, lowering their sales for each other.
@FiendishOne4682 жыл бұрын
That, and Red Dead Redemption launched the exact same month (maybe even the same WEEK) as Blur, Split/Second, and Modnation Racers, which practically made those three games dead on arrival. A shame, really, because they were all fairly strong racing titles, in my opinion

Blur....what a great arcade racing game. My first time playing this game was at my local internet cafe with friends where we were bored and looking for something to play then we found this game, we played couple of races and we had fun (in one of those races, my friend managed to beat me in the off-road Beetle on Mount Haruna). In 2021, I've bought the game for the PS3 (second hand of course). I was surprised to find out that the multiplayer servers are still online. Many of my hours was spent playing the online servers trying to grind my way to Rank 32 where I've finally unlocked *Drifter* (gets you a free nitro in your power-ups after you do a Super Drift) for my Nitro, it was hard racing against rank 50 players that have those during my early grinding stages. After I've saw there's an Evo 7 in the game (I love that car and I've drove one in real life). Maybe I'll gave Downtown Run a try. Great video Kacey.

There's a plethora of Unknown Racing Games that released in the 6th Generation Of Video Games. One of my favorite was ValuSoft's catalogue of Budget Releases like Hot Rod: American Street Drag, and Officially Licensed NHRA Drag Racing Video Games. The rest of ValuSoft's Library.... I can't really speak for. I remember as kid while shopping at Places like Best Buy, CompUSA, TigerDirect, Heck even Walmart and finding a shit ton of Budget PC Titles for $15 to $30. Yes, I even remember Big Rigs Over the Road Racing
@cannedbeverage76872 жыл бұрын
To add to the list of unknown games, I'd like to mention Adrenalin Extreme Show. It was developed by Gaijin (the ones who are responsible for War Thunder). I know it was on PC, idk about console, it came out in 2006, so it's kinda part of the 6th gen era. It's got good graphics, music, environments etc. but the handling, physics and ruberrbanding are pretty bad. Regardless, I played a crap ton of it as a kid.

2:55 "The genre doesnt have the mass appeal it used to" - Its likely related to cars not being as popular (popular as in enthusiasts raving about the next big drivers car or sports car) and/or exciting anymore. I remember my friends and I playing NFS games and dream about our first cars when we were young (early 2000s); most of my classmates had NFSU2 and/or NFSMW and talked about the cars in the game. Nowadays it seems the youth simply doesnt seem to care about cars anymore, just one out of ten of our apprentices is a car fan, while half of them dont like them at all.

I'm just surprised to not see the game's name mentioned anywhere, that's why I thought this would be a video about Blur. This is a great video and you made me discover a weird racing game I now want to own, but if you want it to be more known, at least mention its name in the description! You also mentioned there's no other review of this game out there, so if this is the first one why should it be hidden?
@GoredonTheDestroyer2 жыл бұрын
"The genre doesn't have the mass appeal it used to." I agree with this, but at the same time I don't. I agree with you, Kacey, because you're absolutely correct - the racing genre doesn't have the same _mass_ appeal that it used to, but I don't think it's for the reason you think it might be. I think the reason why the racing genre, overall, doesn't have the same mass appeal is twofold - First, the people who enjoyed Driver, Midnight Club, Ridge Racer, etc. when they were younger have sunken their teeth into more realistic, more demanding affairs - iRacing, rFactor, Assetto Corsa (Vanilla and Competitzione) to name a few, while the racing genre on the whole has been... I don't want to say brushed aside, but having its priorities shifted, with more arcade-y racing games being given the budget treatment, and second, in the case of games like Hot Wheels Unleashed, more arcade-y hampered by either a publisher who cares _just_ enough to get the game on store shelves, but not enough to give the game the love and care it deserves in the long term, or they're developed by small indie teams who can just barely afford to release the game for a fiver on Steam. I'll admit that watching racing sims go from being the weird niche to industry standard and arcade racers go the route of racing sims in the '90s and '00s has been a bit like mood whiplash. It genuinely seems like overnight (That night being about 15 years long or so) games like Driver, Ridge Racer and even Need for Speed, that would have been _guaranteed_ sellers back in the day, are now the risky investment compared to hardcore simulations like the ones mentioned.

A game I love to play but is seldom known from the 6th generation console era is Road Trip (Road Trip Adventure in Europe) for the PS2. Failrace has a playthrough series of it here on KZbin but it's a combination of a traditional RPG and a racing game, complete with party members to equip and a large world to explore and do stuff in. Something I remember from playing it is the handling model had a quirk where a slide to the left would essentially lock the car in the slide until you stopped, but it wouldn't happen if done to the right.

This game just keeps looking better as times goes on as the racing genre has never tried anything like this again. Too many racing games are aiming for sim racing. It sucks that arcade racing games are dying. I happily play the sim titles with my wheel, but sometimes I feel like relaxing with an easier physics system with more game design than go around circle until end of race.

I remember playing with people in late 2010-early 2011 and also a little bit later, even got to fourth or fifth prestige level, but didn't had any contacts with other players because there was no chat neither voice chat, nothing. Mutz007, CyborgRyu, Foiki_GT, Drumster, Montoya93 - I still remember some of these names 10 years after (even though I've probably made mistakes in names - sorry). And AZ6ISO too, though their presence was a little annoying. The game also had a lot of cheaters and no kicking system which made the situation even worse.
