What If Boo Grew Up? (Monsters, Inc. 2)

While the "Monsters, Inc." franchise has marched forward with a prequel film and series, it's never addressed how the relationship between Sully and Boo continued on after the first film. It's unlikely that we'll get an answer any time soon as director Pete Docter has said he wants to leave it up to the audience to wonder where the characters' friendship went in the future. Well, here's FanScription's interpretation! Doug Walker asks and answers the question; What if Boo grew up in a "Monsters, Inc." sequel?

Channel Awesome What if 1. Power Rangers adapted more elements from the show (Rita could send monsters to Earth that pose an internal conflict to the Rangers; Red Ranger in the first film (Jason getting blamed by a monster for pranks he didn't pull), Pink in the second (Kimberly gets private information leaked by a cyber monster), Blue Ranger in the third (Billy has to try standing up to a monster he keeps missing with him and only him), Yellow Ranger in the fourth (Trini fears she doesn't fit in with the other Rangers and befriends a monster who understands her), Black Ranger in the fifth (A monster makes Zack sick, causing him to think he's mother is dead and that he's alone), and Green Ranger in the sixth (N/A). Then a 7th movie could be made where Rita is tearing them apart and they have to band together to stop her). 2. Ben is Omar in Ride Along. 3. Scooby-Doo! Return to Zombie Island was more faithful to the first movie by having the Mystery Gang agree to make a film based on their adventure on Zombie Island. 4. Fiona doesn't tell Shrek she is pregnant until the end of Shrek 3. 5. Carmen & Juni Cortez trained Rebecca & Cecil Wilson to be spies in Spy Kids 4: All The Time In The World. 6. Joker was the villain in Suicide Squad. You could have a love triangle between Joker, Harley, and Deadshot like it was teased in Batman: Assault on Arkham. And as far as Enchantress, she would appear in a end credit scene where we start with Dr. Moone letting her out. 7. Max destroys Planet Drool in The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl. Not just that but he's the real villain not Linus or Mr. Electric. Have him just starting high school and Linus is he's best friend. Sharkboy and Lavagirl could be his imaginary friends from when he was younger. Every time someone tells him he needs to grow up it gets to him and effects his dreams, turning them into nightmares. Planet Drool (which needs a better name like Planet Dream or Dreamworld) goes from Paradise to Purgatory. 8. Emma Frost was in X-Men: The Last Stand. 9. Scott Calvin willingly gave up being Santa Claus in The Escape Clause. 10. Mufasa survived the fall in The Lion King. This idea came from Wotso Videos. 11. Mr. Incredible let Buddy Pines be his sidekick. 12. Agent Jay was still a cop in MiB 3. This idea came to me a few weeks ago because continuity wise, he should be a cop in MiB 3 if K is dead. They tried explaining why he still remembered K in the alternate timeline, but that doesn't explain how he still became a MiB agent in the new timeline if K dies in 1969. 13. Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, The Godfather, and The Dark Knight got a 4th film. Like the last Fanscription, these are trilogies that at one point was planned to continue with another movie that was never made (in Spider-Man case 3).

True, as awesome as the idea in this video is, it doesn't have anything like that crazy hilarious awesome scene where they're all hopping in and out of doors in the door factory, lol 😅. Not that that was ever really that important to the core concepts of the story, but I guess that's the only thing missing to make this as exciting as the original, lol 😅. To be fair, it's only 30 minutes long, I guess that leaves plenty of room for other ideas like that 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Nah. I have learned to hate that cliche with passion, so no thanks. even this video's first set up while interesting (the whole "people think boo is cliche" was hard) it was hard to see because i hate that cliche so much AND because it creates a plot hole of "hey, aren't other kids also aware monsters exist? because last time i checked other monsters now went from scaring children to making them laugh" Also now that monsters know children aren't toxic, some tough audiences like teenagers might try to play with them, causing maybe some newbies to get lost in the moment and maybe spotted by parents or others. If anything it would be more interesting to have that happen, causing sulley and boo to no longer be able to interact as much because now humans are trying to trap the monsters that come from closets (because, other examples like randall might have been seen by WAY many more humans), forcing other monsters to go for the stealth route again

Yeah, but I find this concept to be way better. Even though there isn't any Good Pixar Movie Message, the idea of Boo growing up to deny Sully's memories because of peer pressure plays very well with the theme of the forst mocie, rather than a simple "lost character" scenario which would play more on the doors, which were always meant to be a fun gimmick to be toyed with, not to make a whole movie on. I'm a very curious guy, and I love very hard sci-fi and fantasy where everything unusual is explained, but Monsters Inc is not about that. It's simple.

When I thought of a Monsters Inc sequel I thought that Boo would be an adult and she and Sully would unite the monster and human worlds together. Proving monsters don't have to be scary. But I do like the call back to the prequel in this. It was also refreshing to see Sully and Boo have engaging conversations about change and growing up.

I love the father-daughter dynamics in this fanscription and the healthy equal partners regardless of job roles dynamic in Mike and Celia's marriage and the continued friendship between Mike and Sully and using Randal as the secret villain behind the scenes like Incredibles 2's screen slaver and the use of Worthington as the obvious villain but turns out to be just one half of the villain team. This fic was AMAZING 👍👏

Play up on the idea of the “imaginary friend.” Then the “friends” are revealed, strengthening the bond and encouraging the monsters that need laughs of children to power their world. This leads to shows like yo gaba gaba.

This kinda falls parallel to an idea I had about Ice Age. It always bugged me that the sequels never returned back to the humans. I wanted a sequel where the baby grew up and became a hunter. One day he crosses paths with Manny or his family/friends and is about to hunt one of them. He engages in a fight with Manny as he tries to defend everyone but the hunter, seeing the necklace that was given to Manny at the end of the first movie on his tusk, remembers the story that his father told him about how he was returned to him by a mammoth. Not sure how else the plot would go but it's always been a headcanon story of mine. lol

A couple of unfunny monsters who prefer to do things "the old way" go through a door and steal a couple of kids. Mike and Sully get asked to investigate what has happened. They eventually track down the door the bad monsters used and go through it. Mike and Sully sneak in to find a woman sitting on a child's bed, crying and clutching a picture of the kids that have gone missing. Mike and Sully realise it's the kids mum. They decide to go back and wait for the mum to leave the room so they can search for clues. Just as they're leaving, Mike steps on a toy and cries out in pain. The woman spins round scared that the kidnappers have come back. She grabs something to attack them with and turns on the light. She gasps. Sully has been trying to take Mike back through the door but suddenly wonders why the woman has stopped. She speaks, quietly. With a confused tone she asks "Kitty ?" Sully turns around, gazes at the woman and says "Boo ?" Boo had grown up and forgotten about Sully. Seeing him again makes all her old memories rushing back. After the happy reunion (which challenges Up for the most tears you cry at a Pixar film) Mike and Sully decide to take the now adult Boo through the door to help her find her kids. Hijinks ensue. I've had this idea since I came out of seeing Monsters Inc in the cinema. And have repeated it every time I've seen a potential MI sequel mentioned. I really hope it gets done someday

I actually like the idea of Sully and Boo stayed friends until Boo got older, and it made them separate from one another with some sort of conflict. Something happened in Monsters Inc, which led to Sully and Boo reunite. But in the end, when the problem is fixed, Sully and Boo get a closure between one another. Pixar movies put in messages/lessons in life, and this one could be a good one about life changes with time.

Right one of the ideas Disney had for a sequel to a Pixar film before buying them. Along with a Toy Story 3 about Buzz getting recalled to Taiwan. I honestly don’t know why Pixar didn’t just follow through with that original idea. For Monsters Inc. not Toy Story. The Toy Story change was made for the better.

I thought it would be cool to see a Monsters Inc. sequel that allowed the balance of fear and laughter. My version of a sequel would have Boo/Mary as an older kid who actually appreciates a good scare and former workers of Monsters Inc. at a loss of what to do since they can't make kids laugh. It culminates into monsters doing a small scare industry that centers on scaring people without traumatizing them.

This sounds like an excellent sequel for our time. The original movie's assertion that laughter is more powerful than screams; followed by Monster's University's exploration of the multiple ways to accomplish goals. This story tells us that while laughter is more powerful, fear is still pretty darn effective - and that what children really need is to feel seen and heard.

With that Fade to black, a nice end credit scene would be a little girl dressed in the old costume [heavily restored or even remade by Mary] who when Mary tries to introduce them, immediately calls Sully "Kitty" and they just smile. To show they stayed friends even after Mary started her own family. OR to show like sully ending up with a kid who looks like Boo's costume or something fun. Maybe even Mike and Celia having the kid.

this was a pretty good idea for a sequel. i liked that randal was back as the villain, honestly i just thought it was some kid that was kidnapped and forced into that horrible machine to extract fear, managed to get away and began to learn that monsters were real. and teaching kids how to defend themselves. this was a good idea as well, very bittersweet. nicely done.

The sequel should focus more on Boo (or Mary in this case) and the repercussions of her being the only human who knows Monsters exist, like how it will effect her relationships and temperament growing up. Though Sully's & Mike's part in this is already perfect. Giving a moral that no matter what life throws at us, be it good or bad, we can use them to become better versions of ourselves in the future, possibly juxtaposing with Randall, her monster, which uses his life experiences to become a villain instead. This way, each of the Monster trilogy focuses on each of the main characters, Inc on Sully, University on Mike & the Sequel on Boo.

I would’ve figured seeing Randall again would’ve inspired a bigger reaction in her. Let’s not forget, he’s the first monster she ever encountered, and had probably been terrorizing her on a nightly basis long before she first met Sully.

You know as I would imagine the story of boo growing up, she would indeed continue on being friends with sully, but then as she was 12 sully doesn’t seem to visit boo much often because of the extra work he had to help at the factory, leaving boo all by herself again. And soon by the time boo was an adult, she soon had a daughter who soon gets kidnapped by Randell. Then boo follows Randell into the monster world and would soon meet up with mike, who then tells her that sully is missing because he’s been captured and held captive by Mr Waternoose who came back for revenge, and after boo finds a way to rescue sully. She, sully, and mike team together once again to help her find and save her daughter. And finally at the end of the movie when boo is reunited with her child, sully would once again come see boo and together play with her daughter. And boo would also come into the monster world with her daughter to see sully, mike and all of the other monsters.

Not gonna lie, this is by far the most emotional fanfic take on a sequel to Monsters Inc like it made my heart ache so hard and the ending I just lost it. I really loved the ending them calling eachother boo and kitty. I really hope they do make the sequel exactly like this.

There was a planned movie called "lost in scaradise" it's about Mike and sully visiting boo on her birthday (I think) but they see an old woman at her house instead. From what I remember from the script. They are lost in the human world and it turns out that boo was that old woman. That's it

That was just a popular theory. There's a video that goes into the script itself and it turns out Boo moved away, and the old lady is just some random lady. The actual script explored other urban legend monsters from another dimension, including Big Foot. (who's Sully's ex-wife.) As well as a detective who tries to track the two down at Boo's birthday party. Since the first movie, she stopped believing Sully, so the monsters are invisible to her until her older brother convinces her and she remembers again and sees Sully one last time until they have to leave to get back to Mike's marriage with his girlfriend as Sully has to accept that when Boo will grow up, and will she'll stop believing again. But it won't stop from Sully remembering her.

I think this would be interesting concept wishing it to fruition the “epilogue credits” would be ‘Boo’ and her family (and her child) her telling them about the monsters/ friends in the closet, the child hurriedly rushes to the boos closet only to see a worn out yet familiar costume and a blueish purple shaggy rug. “Puppy?” *it could end there but* -Sully smiles softly at the small child before them and hushes them, and gives a look to where boo is sitting, the child giggles and gallops across the room. “mommy mommy I saw someone and they are just like you said!” [well I imagine the child is older but not too old; and UGH SO CUTE!

I absolutely love this script for a potential sequel! I mean there are a couple things I would probably tweak but overall I really like this fanfic really good. The stuff with Boo is actually really good and does carry on very nicely from the of the events of first movie, and I especially loved the surprise twist that the villain was actually Randall the whole time, and I that his evil plan is to try and return monsters into scaring again, just having him come back as the villain again in a way that actually makes sense, really put a smile on my face, and I also really love the connective tissue with Monsters University by having that J Worthington guy being Randall’s assistant, especially since I actually do like Monsters University, although it admittedly is nowhere as good the original Anyways I really like if maybe Pixar could possibly take some inspiration from some of your ideas when potentially developing their possible Monsters Inc sequel

HOLY CRAP DOUG! This was awesome! I really liked the story, and it was so well written. Very engaging, and sucks you right in like a good movie or book. Even though u only had scenes from MI and stuff to work with, you still made the story come to life. I could feel the emotions. The voices were great. I know Sully was a bit more of a challenge. John Goodman has a unique voice, but you still did great! This story flowed together very well, and connected everything nicely together. Not just each subplot, but also tied in Monsters Inc. and MU. Story was very creative, and I would be happy to see it completely fleshed out, and made into MI2! Thank you so much for sharing this with us! I truly loved it. My only critique would be that the jokes need a little work. I found Monsters Inc. to be really funny, with a lot of those more mature jokes, that are also kid friendly in the way that most kids don't realize what the joke means lol.. U are a very funny guy. I love most of your sketches, and jokes, especially on Nostalgia Critic. I think you are absolutely capable of making the jokes funnier. I think you were trying to make them more kiddish, and cheesy, which some jokes in Monsters Inc. are. I know also you were taking what would be at least a 90 min feature and fitting it into a much smaller time frame. So, it makes sense that you didn't spend a whole lot of time worrying about the jokes. I know given the time and resources, you could make this story have many hilarious jokes, a lot of shenanigans, and visuals that make those emotions come to life even more. U did such an amazing job. Great job Doug! P.S. I have always wanted a sequel with Boo, and I am so glad that I now have your story to add into my memory bank collection of animated movies lol. Which for me, is a very special place. Hand drawn will always be my absolute favorite, but I do believe some movies, like Monsters Inc. and Shrek, were much better off being made as computer animations. I have blabbed on enough. I think that Randall should have been in the script a little more and had a more threatening to Sully and Mary. Maybe after Mary uploaded the video, Randall could have got so mad, that he knocks Sully out, kidnaps and attempts to kill Mary. He wraps her around with his tail and quickly goes back to monsters inc. Sully quickly recovers and follows Randall. Randall runs and grabs a bunch of winter equipment from a random closet. Then, he goes to a weapons closet and grabs a long loaded rifle and rope. He grabs a familiar door and opens it with only a little bit of power left, showing a bunch of snow. He closes the door behind him and runs far away. Meanwhile Sully finds out that Randall went back to monsters inc. and is able to get there. He sees Worthington and demands to know where Randall went. Worthington refuses to say until Sully grabs and threatens him with his claws. Worthington finally says that Randall and Mary went through that door. He pointed to the snow door and Sully gasps. We then cut to Randall tying Mary up to a large and long icicle. Mary struggles and starts to freeze. Randall then puts the rifle under Mary. "What are you doing?!" Mary yells as she tries to break free. "Oh save it!" Randall says smugly "You aren't getting out of this one." he laughs. "You're going to let me freeze to death?" Mary asks while many tears flow down her eyes. "Actually I'm offering you a choice, you see that rifle down there?" He asks. Mary looks down. "This is your way out, if you put your feet down, that rifle will go off and your misery will be over, because freezing to death is slow and painful way to go." Randall says cynically. Mary struggles and gets angry. She feels that shes has no hope, but she tries to break free as Randall enjoyably watches. Mary is slowly losing consciousness. Then Randall hears a noise, his eyes grow wide when he realizes it's Sully. Sully attacks Randall and throws him off the hill. Sully gets to the incredibly weak Mary as her feet almost push down, but Sully grabs and frees her just in time. He holds her tight, warming her up with his fur. Randall gets up the hill and realizes that Mary is gone from his trap. He sees Sully and grabs Mary out of his arms. "NOO!" Sully yells as he chases Randall again. He climbs up a hill and sees Randall. "I have had my fun seeing this girl suffer, but now it's time for her to DIE!" Randall puts Sully is so much pain that he can't get up. "NOW, you can watch her die and then it's your turn!" Randall grabs Mary by the neck and shoves her head in the snow deeper and deeper. Sully yells for help and drags himself to Randall. Then steps come running and the mysterious figure grabs Randall and hits him in the head a bunch of times, distorting his brain and finally knocks him out. It turned out to be the Abominable Snowman. He grabs Mary and Sully and brings them to the hut. Sully and Mary wake up covered in the Abominable Snowman's fur and they see the monster is nearly hairless. Sully asked why he took off most of his fur for them and the Abominable Snowman replied that they needed more tan him. Sully and Mary smiled and hugged the Abominable Snowman. Then, "STOP!!!!!" It was Randall with the rifle pointing the wrong way. "I will kill you all!" Randall yelled insanely. "No stop, Randall you don't understand!" Sully yelled. "I understand everything and YOU are not gonna stop me from killing you!" Randall laughed. "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHACHOOM!" The gun fired and Randall made a huge mistake in pulling the trigger, for he had taken his own life. The three were shocked of the horror they saw. The Abominable Snowman made fur clothing for Sully and Mary and he brought them the village in the the first film to go home and the story continues from there.

Maybe instead of focusing on Robyn Starling, the little girl from the movie, we would instead focus on the cat and mouse duo trying to find their way back home WITHOUT any of them talking, and maybe a subplot of their owners trying to find them and getting involved in hilarious hijinks. Also, I think the time travel plot could work fine with TMNT III. But I think what would work better is the main villains being the ancestors of the Shredder and the Foot Clan, and incorporate characters such as Karai and Miyamoto Usagi. Maybe bring back present day Shredder as a subplot for Casey and Splinter to deal with. I would also consider getting James Rolfe (aka Angry Video Game Nerd) involved with the script and/or voice acting as he and Doug are both TMNT fans.

Pretty good all around. Considering the backstory on Randall from the prequel, I think he deserves a little more screen time or at least a little more depth. If the story added in the fact that Mike apologizes for how things went back in college, it could be a parallel subplot to Sully and Mary's strained relationship, how one can't ignore the past, especially not the mistakes made. Mike speaks his regret on not being a good friend, but Randall resists admitting that he did anything wrong. Whether Randall decides to forgive Mike or not (he probably wouldn't), he does hit a terminate button and the monstrobots all shut down, explode, etc. The bots ended up being way less indestructible when pies get thrown in their faces, unwittingly revealing their inner workings or sensors get clogged by the pies. Still bitter, Randall literally disappears and escapes.

This actually sounds like a pretty good idea, and like a movie I'd like to see! I feel like a couple of things could be tweeked to perhaps avoid some tired cliches, or add more content, as the movie would seem a tad short in its runtime given how long this video is, but other than that, this seems like the really fun and engaging sequel that we'll never get! ^^;

This was pretty good. For years, I've been wanting a sequel. And at the end of this video when you have adult Mary and Sully calling each other Boo and Kitty again, I was thinking of the exact same thing for a perfect ending. I thought you would've taken ideas from the original canceled sequel with Sully and Mike trying to find Boo after she moves away. I still love this though. I think it would be interesting if Boo became a mom and when Sully sees her kids, he gets this grandfather feeling. Of course, her kids would also tackle Mike and he would scream as they chase him. Even them try to say his last name. Job well done!
