What if Dooku Went to Qui-Gon's Funeral in Tales of the Jedi?

During the 4th episode of tales of the Jedi, titled Sith Lord, we arrive at the moment where Qui-Gon’s funeral is about to commence. During this funeral, we didn’t see Count Dooku at all. Which is weird, considering he was qui-gon's master and the closest to him. In this episode we finally get the proper canon answer as to why Dooku didn’t go and what I think would have happened, if he had.
Yaddle tells Dooku that the funeral is to be held on Naboo soon. Dooku says he doubts he’ll be pleasant company and she asks if he holds the council accountable. Dooku turns to look at her and callously says Qui-Gon has become one with the force, it’s time to let him go.
So, from this we know two things. Dooku blames the council for Qui-Gon’s death, but more importantly, him not being there says a lot about what would have happened. Dooku would have probably tried to fight all of them, mainly Mace Windu and Yoda. I don’t think it would have ended well for him against Yoda, but with him tapping into the dark side, I believe he would have stood a fair chance against all the other Jedi. Dooku was always such an underrated Jedi, and I feel this show really helps fans understand why he turned to the dark side.

I love that we can now see Dooku's positive influence on Qui Gon visually. He absorbed many of Dooku's ideals, but attuned them to the standards of the force. That was always his top priority.

That's how it is with many, possibly even most Jedi though, that's what it means to be Padawan. Most of them don't ever really know their parents, or at least don't have much of a relationship with them, so their masters and apprentices who are there for most of their lives in one form or another are the closest thing to family each other has.

I think he would have reemed them out causing Windu and Ki Adi Mundi to say something stupid and set off a confrontation. His words could have maybe even swayed Kenobi at that point. I believe it may have also served as a wake up for Yoda.

I don’t think he blames Kenobi at all. In my opinion it’s 100% the council’s fault, since they sent an old Jedi and a padawan to face a possible Sith Lord. And I still wonder what was so important that they couldn’t have sent at least 1 more skilled Jedi to a possible Sith

Dooku is a nobleman, who had been one of the best duels even jedi the galaxy had ever known. If he showed up, he would remain calm even collected. At least towards the end, when Dooku's rage hit its boiling point. Dooku made the right choice to not go, because it probably been the end of his story with his student.

I think dooku would of said something to Palpatine and reveal he is the Sith Lord at the funeral because he was angry at him for Maul killing Qui-Gon and finally get his recognition of the “coming darkness”. That’s only if they don’t meet prior to the funeral.

I always felt that Dooku could have been fleshed out better prior to Episode 2, and also could have had some great dichotomy with Kenobi since he obviously cared about him but they had wildly different views of the jedi way. So much missed content. Edit: I also have always loved Dooku as a character for the way they designed him to be a villain, but never exactly evil or a bad person. There is something so cool about lawful evil, and when villains are very restrained and dignified with great manners and classiness.

Dooku may have been dignified and classy but he definitely became evil. Yaddle was very clearly showing concern for him and his feelings. She extended her friendship to him as an olive branch. But he did not hesitate a moment to prove to Sidious that he was loyal to only him. Yaddle offered to help him come back and fix whatever needed to be fixed to set things right. In return he attempted to crush her and then cut her down when she was too exhausted to fight. He treated her friendship like it was poodoo. He was evil. He proves it many times but especially on Geonosis when he did nothing to release Obi-wan, knowing without a doubt that Obi-wan would be killed. This was Qui-gon's Padawan. Dooku's own grand-padawan. That's dark.

I think that if Dooku had gone, the Jedi Council (except maybe Yoda and Yaddle) would have given him space and let him mourn. He may have then had private audiences with them or met with Obi-Wan and Anakin. There's also a good chance that Dooku would have confronted Palpatine on Naboo and had the same conversation we saw at the Works.

If Dooku would of gone to the funeral, I feel as if he would go with the intention of fighting. he would of definitely argued with everyone there and blame them for Qui-Gon Jinn’s death. He wouldn’t have been the first to ignite his light saber. I feel like he would Provoke them to ignite their light sabers to fight him. Giving him the green light to just go ham on them and let all his rage out.

The thing that makes Dooku stand out even more than he does. Is that the character is perfectly portraited by Christopher Lee. He brings such dept into an already very intriguing character. Same with his roll as Saruman, he's always the grey character (G.r.r. Martin would love him) and you just want to know more about him and while being the villain can't really blame or hate him

I see it a little different, these characters and subject matter for this cartoon are of great importance to Classic fans and prequel fans, to see them just in cartoons for very short amounts of time is like a demotion, it shows that Disney's not going to take these characters any more serious. I enjoyed it though, I had a lot of issues with some of the premises regarding Dooku as it kind of rewrites episode 2. But other than that it was a greatly made cartoon with classic characters etc.

@@BitigoBlack Dooku was a well-respected Jedi though he wasn't on the council he had a bust in the Jedi archives in a deleted scene. Even in Attack of the Clones they didn't attack him in the Arena because of his Jedi affiliations in the past. He was more a greyJedi and we were meant to believe that qui-gon's death was the last straw for him and other "lost Jedi" in the books as well. He lost his way when he learned of the new power rising ( Lord of the rings parralel) in this cartoon he betrayed Qui-Gon and is just evil toxic masculinity guy even before he left the order. in Aotc When Obi-Wan was captured by Dooku he tells him that quigon would have helped him so this new cartoon takes away the weight of scenes like that, potentially joining Dooku. Seems like this is the new take on the Star Wars story in the Disney verse of lucasfilm and feloni will do what he must for the new Lucasfilm story view, though he probably knows Lucas treatment for it. Dooku wasnt at quigon's funeral because I don't think he was even created yet as a character. When Lucas hired him, Lord of the Rings was really big and he has a reputation of being Dracula which Lucas is a big fan of and Frankenstein, thus the scene when Darth Vader gets his armor etc. Either way it doesn't take away from the future of the stories but it does leave a bitter taste.

I love this idea, honestly if Dooku showed up to Qui-Gon's funeral there would be a lot of tension in the air but first Dooku would give condolences to Obi-Wan and Anakin apologising for the Jedi's faliure to act upon the discovery of the Sith as they should have, quickly leaving before the newly knighted Kenobi could ask what he meant. The funeral would go as is with Dooku the last to leave in order to say a final farewell to his former student, the rage building in his eyes as he looked at the burning body. Before the return trip to Coruscant Dooku would confront the council verbally sparing with the masters over the death of Qui-Gon and how it could have been avoided if they had done as they should have as Jedi. The discussion would quickly get heated with Windu squaring up to Dooku trying to talk down at him and yoda from the back saying it wasn't the Jedi's place to interfear with the political situation on Naboo while the senate was debating the issue. This was the wrong thing to say as Dooku would ignite his blade and s vicious duel would start between him and the master of the order, the shift in the force would be big bringing onlookers as Palpatine creeped in the crowd a wicked smirk on his face. Dooku would be subdued and the Jedi would hastily depart for the temple to deal with the matter as palpatines smirk turns into a vicious grin knowing the Jedi would refuse to kill his new apprentice and Dookus loyalty was cemented in the darkside.

The thing is, Dooku doesn't channel dark side energy, which would render Mace Windy's form kinda useless against him, because vapod is designed to fight dark side users, in which Dooku did not use

It would be interesting to see Dooku's interaction with Anakin, sensing Anakin's skepticism, sometime after presumably Obi-Wan talked with him about Qui-Gon's dying words. If Dooku took it upon himself to train Anakin, and convince Obi-Wan to join him to defeat the Sith, much like he did in Episode II, Palpatine would have to come up with another plan with Order 66.

Its interesting to see the differences between Tales of the Jedi Dooku and Ep2/Clone Wars/Ep3 Dooku. While he remained elegant in his tone and appearance, he definitely had more compassion in his younger years, at least up until the death of Qui-gon. His death allowed Dooku to fall further to the darkside and we can see some questionable actions he ordered during The Clone Wars (bombing of civilians on Ryloth, Bonteri's death, etc). Dooku wasn't wrong in being angry with the Jedi councils lack of action and with the corruption within the Republic though.

I'm pretty sure he turns before the funeral. In the episode Yaddle says "The council is leaving for Naboo, the funeral is to be held there" then he leaves and she follows him all the way to palps. So he wasn't at the funeral because he was already turned to the dark side and had killed yaddle.

The Dooku episodes were by far my favorite Star Wars content since Season 2 of The Mandalorian. They really showed how corrupt and hypocritical the Jedi Council was. Just another reason why Qui-Gon was my favorite Jedi. Qui-Gon was the purest and greatest example of a Jedi imo, and he’ll always be one of my top 3 favorite Star Wars characters. I love The Phantom Menace so much. Don’t care what anyone says. We need more animated Qui-Gon and Dooku content! I really like Obi-Wan too, but Qui-Gon was just on another level when it came to wisdom and understanding the Force and the corruption of the Jedi Council.

It would have made for a very interesting scenario, considering BOTH Count Dooku and Senator Palapatine would've been on the same planet, at the same time, amongst The Jedi High Council. If Dooku had revealed Sidious' whole plan (Overthrowing The Senate, Kamino, The Clones, the return of The Sith), The Jedi Order would've handily overtaken Darth Sidious, quelling the revenge of The Sith, saving Anakin from becoming Darth Vader. I feel like if Dooku went to the funeral it would have most likely been a verbal fight and not a light saber fight at least from the beginning. I feel at that point I feel wasn't totally on the dark side yet to where he would immediately ignite his blade. I feel like having Darth Sidious present when Yaddle confronted him in the Works was what pushed him to fighting right off the bat.

@@fl3tch106 I think there's a few different possibilities. -The Jedi launched a search party for her, but with no leads (assuming they couldn't track her aircraft's last whereabouts), they eventually had to concede that they probably won't find the answers they seek -Palpatine orchestrated some diabolical little plan to make it appear as though she died in some other way, maybe at the hands of criminals or something

I think he wouldve reemed them out and someone wouldve said something that caused him to ignite his lightsaber in anger, but ultimately yoda and obi wan, his master, and and the apprentice of his apprentice wouldve talked him down before a fight broke out. It would’ve been tense as hell. Several other lightsabers wouldve ignited including a purple one.

Also Surprising Qui-Gon didn't mentioned Anakin to Dooku in that Conversation as this was Before Qui Gon and Obi Wan Talked to the Jedi High Council about Maul. Crazy Stuff!!!! I love count Dooku he is absolutely my favorite character in Star Wars and justice is my all time favorite Star Wars episode and if he had gone to the funeral there are a few Jedi’s who would’ve dropped dead for sure!! Wow what great entertainment Star Wars is

Dooku needed the absence of the council in order to delete the info from the archive. I think that’s why he wasn’t at the funeral.

Dear Star Wars Theory, First and foremost I am a subscriber to your channel and I have been for over two years now. And your channel is thee best Star Wars channel on KZbin hands down. I wanted to know if you could do a fan theory in future on how did the Jedi find out about the death of Yaddle at the hands of Count Dooku at The Works and there suspicions of a Jedi having done it by her Lightsaber wounds. I think Lord Tyranus would have spit in master windus face and then Yoda and Obi Wan would have split up the fight and Lord Tyranus would be held back by palpatine while whispering in Dooku’ ear “ not now my apprentice “. And Dooku would leave but not before yelling “this is all your fault ! Qui Gons blood is on your hands !” And then palpatine would go to Tyranus house with a bottle of Hennessy and a couple of death sticks to get fucked up and act like he cared about Qui-Gon also and how he will miss him and his long sexy hair .

3:13 Vaapad is not an automatic trump card against any and all dark side users. It gives one an edge, but it's not kryptonite. The reason it worked against Palpatine is because using Vaapad against someone as evil as Palpatine turns it into a different beast entirely, creating a loop in which the dark side flows from Palpatine to Windu then back to Palpatine ad infinitum. Even then, it was only through Anakin's Shatterpoint that Windu was able to disarm Palpatine. It's a misconception that Vaapad is a magic spell that instantly allows one to defeat dark side users when it certainly isn't.

I doubt Vaapad would give Windu an advantage against Dark Side Dooku. Vaapad is only a direct counter against angry and extremely aggressive dark sider users. Dooku is always calm and collected.

George himself said that Mace beat Palpatine in ROTS, so the idea that Dooku regardless of his Light/Dark status would beat Mace, is one one I get behind. Yes, Palps beat Yoda later, but one has to remember this was before Order 66 where we see Yoda visibly struck/weakened by feeling the death of all the Jedi, whereas Palpatine was inversely empowered by this death. Which is why Palps was able to defeat Yoda, but not be able to defeat Mace earlier.

I think the Jedi would have noticed his anger and his turn to the dark side if he had to be at the funeral, and dooku would have been found out and that's why I think he didn't go

Here's a theory of my own. While at the burning, Dooku would be looking down at the body of his former Padawan and friend, sadness and anger radiating off him. Yoda would sense this almost immediately and after the service, confront Dooku on it. Dooku would then voice his blaming on Yoda and the rest of the council for Qui-Gon's death and everything else he needed to say would come pouring out. Palpatine would interrupt, suggesting that Yoda leave Dooku alone to mourn and grieve in peace. Palpatine would pull Dooku away from the confrontation and discreetly tell him to meet him at the Works. Dooku would raise his concerns about Maul killing Qui-Gon at this meeting and finally fully pledge his loyalty to the Sith Lord and the Dark Side as we saw in Tales of the Jedi.

I think Dooku had attended the funeral he would have been composed during the funeral out of respect for his former Padawan, but afterwards he would have verbally berated the Jedi, especially Mace Windu

But lets call a spade a spade. Dooku was powerful, and he was wise in a lot of ways, but he was also subject to hubris and he wasn't above using cruelty to get his way. He was also prone to jealousy. His sense of entitlement as a jedi master is what really drove him to the dark side. Like Anakin's sense of entitlement as the "chosen" one. Sidious preyed on both of their ego's. It's not just coincidence Dooku's scene ends the same way anakin's does; on his knees, shocked at what he's done, vulnerable to Sidious' suggestions. Dooku would never have gone to the funeral, it would have put The Plan at risk. He wouldn't risk an outburst that put himself under closer scrutiny. If Yaddle could sense the conflict in him there's no way the entire rest of the counsel would have missed it.
