Let’s be honest, we’ve always wanted to know the answer to this question. What if Iroh were the Fire Lord? Frankly, it would have been reality if it had not been for the hands of fate and the meddling of Ozai in taking the birthright meant for his oldler brother. It just seems in the line of Fire Lords that the youngest child is always less honorable and less fair-playing than the older. But let’s rewind the clock and step in and put to rest this question once and for all. What if Ozai did not become the Firelord? What if, instead, it was Iroh?

In theory, Iroh was basically like Azula before he lost his son Lu Ten. He was the prodigy and the favorite son between him and Ozai who was jealous of him. After Iroh lost his son he learned empathy, before that he was a hardened war general who would've made sure that the Fire Nation spread across the world. A great irony of this family is that Ozai disdained his son Zuko because he saw Zuko was himself, the second best in terms of aptitude while Azula was the best - what Ozai wish he was when he was young. Ozai hated his son Zuko because he hated himself.

With talent yes. But he never was a cold hearted like she was (remember that he found the last dragons and did not killed him, that happend before he lost his son). We would have instead a more moderate Fire Nation, that still would try to conquere the other nations.

@@MrDeflador Supposedly moderate leader or not, the carnage of war required by Iroh to make a Fire Nation present across the entire world would still be awful. As Dragon of the West, Iroh would be expected to carry the Fire Nation banner everywhere whatever the human cost.

He Would stay still wage war, but unlike his brother he would not use the comet to wipe the earth kingdom clean.

Personally, I think that in the wake of Ursa’s death and Ozai’s imprisonment, Iroh would have heard about the plan to kill Zuko. Iroh would have then plead for Zuko’s life and would likely offer to adopt him as his heir.

Yeah, Zuko's death didn't even need to happen here. Azulon should've known it wouldn't have hurt Ozai since he was planning to kill him when he was a baby.

personally, thats what I think Azulon's actual order was, it just doesn't make sense for him to order Zukos death from the start - but stripping Ozai's heir and giving him to the frankly better suited Iroh? that would actually hurt Ozai, fix the succession problem, and preserve the life of his grandson. Remember we never actually get a reliable narration on what that order was, and it just goes against the characterization of both azulon and iroh both.

A lot of Azula's personality came from emulating her approving father. Under the care of Iroh she would be a better person by the time Aang emerged than she was in the main timeline. She would likely still be cold and calculating, but avoid more deceitful and fear-based tactics, as those were what got her mom and brother killed and her father imprisoned. She would probably rely more on her raw firebending talent to get what she wants, and maybe even treat her friends better with Iroh teaching her the value of governing with respect instead of fear.

My guess would be her fear based tactics would be differing in approach while still being manipulative. For instance, she wouldn't light the safety net on fire with Ty Lee but rather threaten the circus owner behind the scenes to do what he must to make her leave with her. She'd be far less likely to commit atrocities or cruelties to other but feel no qualms with manipulating things to her favor. That being said, there would also likely be a slightly softer side to her that would make her less manipulative to her friends in general circumstances and she'd likely come to begrudgingly respect Iroh for having a powerful but steady hand as well as giving her more care than either her parents ever had seeing as Ursa was terrified of her while Ozai loved to "play" with her.

The current story now only happened because Roku didnt kill Sozin, then dying and allowing the war to happen, then Aang finds out hes the avatar and flees and gets frozen. Idk maybe someone else wouldve been Fire Lord if not Roku, Aang would probably still be the next Avatar just with different friends and life. The southern water tribe probably wont even be invaded by the fire nation.

I'm very glad you guys stuck true to who Iroh was before exile. So many people forget he wasn't the peace-loving zen master we know and love while he was a general in the Fire Nation. If he became Fire Lord, his duty to the nation would remain and change who he is as a person. Nice job staying true to that!

He was always a great fire bender but Azula was just more naturally gifted. Remember Zuko beat Zhao when he was still a teen. Zuko was only seen as weak because he actually expressed emotion as a child and didn’t live up to his father’s standards.

Personally I feel Iroh would try and stay by Azula's side similar to how how he did for Zuko in the show since she was all he had left. Really enjoyed this what-if scenario, can't wait to see the next part!

I think this is pretty accurate, all things considered. I think one of the oddest things are Azulon surviving long enough to do all that after being poisoned. It'd make more sense if something Iroh did was changed, rather than Azulon's death being delayed. The biggest difference, of course, could be Iroh bearing witness to Ozai's plot and therefore being able to thwart it. He would DEFINITELY ask for Zuko to be kept alive as his heir as well. Also odd would Iroh not being met with more distrust himself in the aftermath of the Moon Spirit being killed, but I think the events would still play out. It's mainly that everyone would be more apprehensive at taking Iroh's word, especially Sokka.

And bringing that history and culture into account, no Azulon would not have stepped in to save Zuko if he ordered his own son to kill his Grandson because of Ozai's dishonor. Infact if Ozai didn't kill Zuko, Ozai and Zuko would have been brutally killed and Azula and Ursa sold into Slavery. Turns out the Genocidal Dictators based on real life cultures who attempted the same, aren't actually good people

This was a very interesting video, full of neuances and insights. Iroh could indeed be a convincing (if sympathetic) villain. Sympathetic villains are still villains, and i'm glad you stated it in your video, even if not using those exact words. Also, you basically predicted Ozai's portrayal in the live-action "Avatar". I didn't watch the live-action series, but i heard that their version of Ozai isn't exactly Ozai as much as he's an adaptational villainy version of Iroh, being honorable and more "if i'll stop now, my whole life work was in vain" than being an analogy to Hitler. Obviously your version of Iroh is more sympathetic than the Netflix version of Ozai, but still. When your version of Iroh chose corruption over correction for very human reasons, i got the feeling he's an avatar too, in a way. Like how Aang is an avatar who wants to bring freedom and harmony, Iroh is a dark avatar who wants to bring a twisted form of stability and staying in line that will end up as oppression. TL;DR, your verison of Iroh keeps on doing bad things to prove himself he's a good father. The only thing that wasn't perfect in your video is that Zuko dies in your version, which means he wouldn't be redeemed. Other than that, great video. Would you make a second part for it? And if Ozai is in prison in your version, would Azula replace him as the resident pure evil, or would she stay tragic and insecure like in the canon?

Ozai probably still tries to poison Azulon, or Agni Kai his brother for the throne. The Water Tribes are dealt with, and Aang either never wakes up or wakes up in a world where the Fire Nation has won.

What if naruto had sukuna and I found I way for sukuna to be a threat maybe he should be the ancestor or the founder of the kurama clan, Yuki clan and jugo clan. Also the creatures from the naruto movie satori, Moryo and zero tails are his creations, similar to the nine tailed beasts hagoromo created. Also he should have chakra Thanks to kaguya's negative emotions which leek not only curse energy and chakra out of her during her fight of Hagoromo and Hamura.

it should be highlighted, that the death of his son may made Iroh more humane, BUT the claim doesn't spells it explicit, that this son doesn't has to die to make him Fire Lord. Not sure Iroh would have become part of the White Lotus if he had become Fire Lord, that seems like the sort of thing that would have happened later after he lost his son and, with Ozai taking his place as Fire Lord, stepped down from his position as general. Bumi would still likely have surrendered to prevent bloodshed, so I think you have that right though.
