The pause when Anakin was willing to talk was Anakin reaching out one last time to try to connect deeply with Obi Wan. I think Anakin, were any of this real life and not a script, didn’t want to be a Sith he was backed into a corner and desperate to save Padmè. What's so interesting is that Anakin did explicitly say to Padme that he was willing to overthrow the Chancellor. Obi Wan was actually hidden nearby in the ship and could have very well overhead him say that. Obi Wan knows the Chancellor is the Sith lord that turned Anakin and could have taken this opportunity to string along Anakin into overthrowing him. He could have sensed that Yoda might not take him out alone and that him and Anakin together could have taken him out. Even if Anakin had the wrong reasons in mind, it doesn't really matter as long as they take the Chancellor out of the picture. There definitely was a possibility for Obi Wan to play along with Anakin for a time even if he knew he was on the wrong path. Obi Wan didn't have to turn Anakin back to reason right now. After all, who know how Anakin would have turned after taking out this very evil influence on him?! Maybe he, with the help of yoda AND Padme would have been able to sober up Anakin after the fact without the Chancellor around?! Why not try it instead of outright killing Anakin?! One could argue this would have been the smarter play from Obi Wan, straight up. And that could have happened regardless of Obi Wan's thoughts on the the Jedi council. Obi Wan could have been totally faithful to the Jedi and not convinced by Anakin's take one bit, he could completely refuse the Dark Side, and STILL this would have been the smarter play.

The chances of him turning were VERY small. One chance is when in the phantom menace snaking met padme. Another is what you said, qui gon dying to darth maul. It wasn't slow enough imo. He went from "it's not the Jedi way!" to slaughtering kids five minutes later. That was far too rushed for me. Not believable. I'd have liked it better if they'd emphasized his internal conflict. He could have killed the adult Jedi out of his desire for order and tried to hide the younglings out of his desire for justice. Then you could have had the troops find and kill the kids later, causing him anguish and guilt that accelerates his fall. Episodes II and III both would have benefitted from being 20 minutes longer. Yeah, yeah, I know people don't like long movies, but I don't like rushed stories that make no sense.

That was kind of a chaotic day. The public wouldn't necessarily ever know all the details. Who actually knew the facts? Yoda and Obi-Wan saw the footage, Obi-Wan told Padme. The clone troopers who helped Vader would know. Maybe they would be "retired" early; maybe they could be ignored or blackmailed since they took part in the atrocities. But really, if Yoda, Obi-Wan, and Padme are all willing to move on, Anakin probably returns to his position. Otherwise, Anakin just disappears into the galaxy, either with his wife or not depending on whether she forgave him.

i am deeply convinced the force has more of an affect on jedi emotions than normal people. it's like it echos inside them, provoking emotions and thoughts that would otherwise be alien to them. i think when a jedi falls to the dark side, the force, powered by powerful negative emotions, forms an echo chamber around them that changes their thoughts, makes them more reactive. this would explain how fallen jedi can change personality so quickly, and do unimaginable things when not too long ago they were good people. perhaps that is why the jedi determined that emotion is dangerous.

Anakin did not despise the force only the Jedi. He always had a heart. He most likely would’ve led the younglings away and took their lightsabers after remembering his unborn child. The line “we can still save Padme” would surely bring him back. Force ghosts of all Jedi appearing when palpatine catches them off guard, nearly defeating them, and Anakin’s lightsaber turning purple when he unleashes his power would hit hard.
