Does anyone else think that Anakin would not have turned to the dark side if Qui-Gon had survived, or is it just me?

+Tyler Wojciechowski I agree, I do not think Qui-Gon's grey teachings would have made it more likely that Anakin turned to the dark side but the opposite. He would have been able to grow into a Jedi that fit his personality better and learned from Qui-Gon how to maintain balance. This would have allowed him to embrace his role as a Jedi. Compared to what actually happened, where Anakin was held to the standard of an ideal Jedi yet leading a secret life opposed to those expectations. Constantly fighting what it was to be a good Jedi and what it was to be himself.

Actually, I believe that Qui Gon would have been the one to prevent Anakin from falling to the dark side. See, originally, Obi-wan was a poor choice of master for Anakin. They are too different with Anakin having a deep rogue streak and Obi-wan being the poster child boy scout of the Jedi order. Qui Gon, on the other hand, was roguish like Anakin and thus could understand and reach him better. True, Anakin would still fall in love with Padme and would slay Ventris and Opress, but he would have came to Qui Gon for advice as, over the years, he would have earned more of Anakin's trust than Obi-wan ever could as he would have, more likely than not, came to Anakin's defense in all matters and always had his back. Not to mention that Anakin would have trusted Qui Gon with his secret marriage to Padme and even the fact that she was pregnant, whereas Obi-wan, being the ardent follower of the Jedi ways, would have turned him in. What pushed Anakin to the Dark Side the most, more than ever slaying a Sith could, was his fear of Padme dying and his vision of it coming to pass. He would have gone to Qui-Gon, as he always had, for guidance and he would have helped Anakin traverse this turbulent time, even going as far as to swear to protect Padme and the unborn Luke and Leia, possibly getting her off of Courasant and some place safe, thus allaying many of Anakin's fears and allowing him to remain clear minded. Thus, when Palpatine attempted to sway Anakin to the Dark Side and revealed that he was a Sith Lord, Anakin would have turned to his trusted master, Qui-Gon and told him of what he had learned and the two, along with other Jedi, would confront and kill Palpatine, thus eliminating the Sith forever. Eventually the Jedi would learn of Anakin's marriage to Padme and of their two children, it would then take the Order into new territory as their strongest Jedi would be married and have a family. They would most likely oust him from the order, but with the Clone Wars over with the death of Palpatine/Sidious, Anakin would accept their ruling and move away with Padme and their children, possibly back to Naboo. There I see Anakin raising and teaching Luke and Leia about the force and how to use their abilities, most likely with the help of Qui-Gon who would also be ousted from the order for keeping Anakin's secret. With Padme's political connections as well as Qui-Gon's in the council, they would prevent the Jedi from taking Luke and Leia, leaving their education in the force completely up to Anakin and Qui-Gon, both of whom would gladly assume the task. This could, potentially, give birth to a new Jedi Order, one that rivals but does not clash with the original, leading to an even greater story in Episode 4 and completely changing the course of Star Wars history. One of the biggest problems I saw with the canon story line is that Anakin never fully trusted Obi-wan or the Jedi Order. Sure, he would have laid his life down for them, but when it came to his deepest secrets and thoughts, he truly never felt as though he could turn to anyone, hence his loner attitude. However, Qui-Gon was much like Anakin and would understand him better and be able to reach him in ways Obi-wan or any other member of the order could. This is also why Palpatine has such an easy time manipulating Anakin. Anakin wanted to have someone who understood him and whom he felt as though he could truly trust. Palpatine played on this by placating Anakin, agreeing with him and encouraging his rogue behavior, even rewarding it. The order, Obi-wan in particular, never did this. They always butted heads with Anakin on seemingly everything, always correcting him or telling him he was wrong. However, with Qui-Gon, he would understand how Anakin felt and, using his own experiences, would instead guide Anakin, teaching him how to follow the rules of the Order while at the same time still find a way to do what he felt was right, even if it conflicted with the orders of the Council. This would cause Anakin to bond more with Qui-Gon and trust him completely, as both a mentor and a friend. Anyway, that is how I see things going if Qui-Gon had survived the duel with Maul on Naboo.

While I agree that Qui-Gon's teaching would have made a difference I don't agree on him being better suited as a master for Anakin. To me Anakin's case is too similar to Xanatos's. He pampers them from day one and disregard all the cautious comments his fellow Jedi have about them. I've seen a lot of arguments about Obi-Wan not understanding Anakin or even not respecting him. What people fail to see is that Obi-Wan is merely emulating Qui-Gon. Qui-Gon is a very private person. He doesn't explain himself to anyone -including his Padawan-. In Jedi Apprentice he often leaves Obi-Wan on his own while he keeps his own agenda. He disregards Obi-Wan's opinion many times too. He's also much less forgiving than Obi-Wan. The whole Melida/Daan ordeal proves how incompetent of a master Qui-Gon can be. He doesn't try to communicate with Obi-Wan about his feeling. He lets him deal with his conflict on his own, all because he's too worried about Tahl. After that he's quick to blame Obi-Wan, even when Tahl and Yoda remind him that Obi-Wan is a child trying to do what he thinks is right. He's also fine with letting the council lecture (and embarrass) Obi-Wan, even when he thinks they're being too rough. Another thing is that Qui-Gon being a living Force preacher is even more distrustful of force visions than Obi-Wan. Yes, he would have fought more to have Anakin see his mom. Yes, he might have been OK with Padme. But the moment Anakin comes to him distressed because of a force vision he would have dismissed it just as lightly as he did all of Obi-Wan's bad feelings. Qui-Gon is nothing but zealous when it comes to his vision of the Force and as Tholme said, he took everything that came out of his mouth as a pearl of wisdom. He would have been a great master, until Anakin went against what Qui-Gon believed he should be. What would have worked on Qui-Gon's favor is that he wouldn't have let Palpatine interact with Anakin. Unlike Obi-Wan, he doesn't bow to the demands of council, and his distrust of politicians would have made him keep Anakin far away from him. Overall I think Obi-Wan is a more balanced Master for Anakin and -despite of what everyone says- a more understanding one. IMO where Obi-Wan failed was in his inexperience and in putting the word of the Council above his own beliefs, and that -I would argue- is in part Qui-Gon's fault.
@Yue-is4nc

I have to disagree with you because in the apprentice book series qui-gon was able to see glimpses of the future. He would have a bit of knowledge seeing this event coming. Obi-wan is one of my favorite Jedi but he was more of a best friend that had just barely anymore knowledge of the Jedi way or power then Anakin himself. So he was a weak master that was learning on the fly as well. The fact that Qui-Gon was his master is what keep Obi-wan on the straight and narrow path of the light. Qui-Gon's past fail with Xanatos would have made him more aware with what to do on Anakin. He would have picked up on it faster. Qui-Gon being a true master would have served Anakin way better then Obi-Wan who was granted rank of master over a duel with no true qualification.

Its Qui-Gon's grey nature that would have been better for Anakin imo. He would have supported Anakins love for padme. He goes back for Anakins mother too something he wanted to do in the first place. Anakin wouldn't have seen him as a rival/brother in his teens/early twenties like he did Obi-Wan. Qui-gon was way more patient and wise then obi-wan and would have been more of a respected father figure. Anakin like Qui-Gon wouldn't have given two flips about being on the Jedi Council which was one of Palpatines major leverage points over him. Anakin in this scenario has a MUCH higher chance of staying good IMO.

I actually don't think Anakin would've fallen in love with Padme the same way at all. I think the movies try to show that Anakin filled the hole that was left by leaving his mother and she was there for him in that time (when he was on the ship and cold and all that) I think he may still have, but just a lot differently. I don't think he would feel the same NEED for her like he did before, because he would be less broken as a person. However, we all know he thought she was cute so maybe, but it would've been a more healthy relationship

This seems a bit off as one of Anakin's main problems that led him to the darkside was that of issues with Obi-Wan. I believe since it was Qui Gon who saved and freed Anakin from Tatooine, and since Qui Gon was a bit of a rule breaker himself (unlike straight arrow Obi-Wan) Anakin and Qui Gon's bond would be that much stronger and Qui Gon would have been more of a father figure to Anakin and help him when he needed it the most. Thus, I feel Anakin would not have been so easily swayed to the Darkside had Qui Gon lived.
@gibbs615

Yeah Qui-Gon would've been a better master & a good father figure towards Anakin if he had survived & WAS allowed to train him! Obi-Wan seemed more of the OLDER BRO TYPE for Anakin than a master! (like when they first met)
@jedmask9484
@jedmask9484 5 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Even Qui-Gon in the movie seemed like he took a "liking" to Anakin's mother Schmi, so had Qui-Gon lived he may have later saved Schmi Skywalker from slavery and marry her to be a "father" to Anakin knowing how much Anakin deeply cares for and loves his mother and at the same token, "virgin-birth" Anakin would have the "goldilocks" surrogate *father* he needed to keep him grounded and emotionally-stable in his early life. Anakin would have the right kind of father figure in Qui-Gon to confide in about his feelings for Padme and their marriage relationship and likely have Qui-Gon's support and approval in the end; especially given Qui-Gon's own personal past tragedy of a romatic relationship from what I remember.
@gibbs615
@gibbs615 5 жыл бұрын
Jed Mask Yeah being a grey Jedi master Qui-Gon would've been more open towards Anakin like a real father & probably would've went against the cold council to train & raise Anakin anyway & went back for his mother too had he survived. He would've also given Anakin his support & blessing of him & Padme's feelings for each other & then perhaps Anakin would NOT have fallen for Palpatine's LIES TRICKERY & DECEPTION towards the dark side in the first place!

You could also say that because Qui-Gon learned from a more traditional teacher in Dooku, he would have adopted himself and instilled some of that training into Anakin, and had more of master/student, father/son relationship, rather than the brother/brother relationship he had with obi-wan
@qui-gone
@qui-gone 7 жыл бұрын
I think that if Qui-Gon survived, the following things could have happened: 1. Qui-Gon would have helped Anakin free Shmi from slavery at the earliest as that was Anakin's easiest trap to fall into the dark side. If he knew his mother lived a safe / comfortable and not a slave, he would be more balanced, focused Jedi. 2. Qui-Gon's survival would reaffirm Anakin's larger than life belief about Jedi that he initially has - his first interactions with Qui-Gon when he says that Jedi can't be killed. Qui-Gon's death in the real timeline made Anakin lose his first father figure and led to his rebellious / roguish attitude. 3. Dooku wouldn't leave the order as shown and would help the council detect and track down Palpatine more easily. 4. Obi-wan would still have got his knighthood i think, because he helped his master bring down a Sith lord. He could then go away to Mandalore for some R & R or pair up with Quinlan Vos to infiltrate the Sith ;) And I agree with +Lone Wanderer that Anakin's personality wouldn't be as rogue as it was, with Qui-Gon's mentoring. Look how Obi-wan turned out to be :P And also, one final musing - if his mother and his father-figure / mentor Qui-Gon lived, would Anakin really have reached out to Padme's love or be content with her friendship?

I disagree. Anakin fell because of his fear of losing the people he loved, his inability to accept that sometimes people died, was a flaw in his character in himself, not in others. No matter who trained him, he would still fall to the dark side of the force.

@@theonetruth1478 Obi-Wan was impulsive and eager to prove himself but, he was not on the way to the dark side, he matured with the age he changed because of the difficulties he faced. Anakin did not want to give up anything, he wanted both Padmé and the Jedi Order, I think the only way he would not fall to the dark side would be if he chose one, it would be if he left the Order to be with his wife.

I think Qui-Gonn's influence would have the opposite effect. A gray, less strict code/teacher would allow Anakin more freedom to deal with his emotions more freely instead of hiding them in order to stick with the traditional Jedi ways. That could mean his rage and hate stay in check and Palpatine would never sink his hooks in so deep.

I think you're missing one important fact. Qui-gon would have gone back for Anakin's mother. The reason why he didn't before is because he had no money. If she was back then Anakin had his mother and would totally wouldn't turn to the dark because he has more family and he cares about Family more than anything. Also remember that Qui-gon is more grey than Obi-wan and he fell in love and would have left the order for a women, so Qui-gon would have told Anakin its okay to have feelings and be in love. Qui-gon and Anakin (Maybe ashoka) would have left the order.

True. Instead, Anakin would've been a powerful mercenary, or maybe just a famous pilot. The Jedi Order might have suffered a more gradual fall as more people would see the success Anakin had AFTER leaving the Order. Less parents of force-users might be willing to surrender their children to the temple. Maybe an alternative Order would have been established? Not necessarily by Anakin or Qui-Gon, or even during their time, but eventually. And if Anakin left the Order first, Ashoka would have definitely followed him. Ooh, I just had another thought: what if Ashoka trained Leia? Damnit, these "what-ifs" are like clicking on TV Tropes links!

Jay Garcia So would Dooku, I think. All in all, the idea of a reformed Jedi Order is intriguing. That's what I was hoping to see in Episode VII, but Kylo Ren fucked it all up. :/ All in all, I won't be satisfied with the sequels unless they acknowledge that the dark side is just as important as the light side, and that true "balance" is not getting rid of dark side users, but being able to BALANCE both sides of the force when dealing with it. Star Wars could benefit from taking a few pages from Shin Megami Tensei, which shows that both law and chaos in the extremes are equally destructive.

As such, Palpatines plan to create and estabkish an empire would be much more difficult, as it was the clone wars that granted him the position of power to be able to overthrow the jedi. the clone wars being shorter, the jedi would be more focussed on the eradication of the dark side. No disrespect intended, but if Qui-Gon were to live? I do not believe that Anakin would turn to the darkness. Part of the reason why he fell was Kenobi's teaching style. He ridiculed Anakin. The strict and stifling rules of the order are the reason why Anakin rebelled. Obi-Wan deferred to the council and treated Anakin as a rebellious child who needed rules to constrain him and prevent him from becoming dangerous. Qui-Gonn treated Anakin as a gifted individual who just needed steering in the correct direction.

Also that the reason Palpatine was able to get so close to Anakin was that Anakin was looking for a father figure. Obi wan was an older brother, not a father figure. Qui Gon would have helped Anakin to channel his passion and maybe a bit more paternally teach Anakin to be less arrogant. Also I think Qui Gon would have been less credulous than the rest of the order about the Clone Army that conveniently fell into their lap. THAT one still gets me. An army of clones of a guy who is in the inner circle of Count Dooku shows up JUST when you need them? No one has the authority to create such an army and SOMEONE sure had to equip it. I doubt that the Kamino built the massive quantities of military hardware needed for just the initial battalions And NO ONE thought it was worth investigating....

One thing that I've questioned is that, before his death, Qui-Gon studied how to become one with the Force and become immortal, and then reaches out to Yoda through the Force to train him in the technique. With this, why couldn't Jinn reach out to Anakin and console him on his hates and fears and guide him through them? He could have possibly helped Skywalker save his mother and warn him of the dangers of trusting Sidious and succumbing to his emotions.

I think that Qui-Gon did. other wise, Anakin would have turned sooner, and left the Jedi order. one of the problems though, would have been that while Anakin was on Coruscant Qui-Gon would have been unable to talk to him, because of the active Sith temple under the Jedi temple (Another factor that helped turn Anakin), and most of Anakins troubles start after he returns to coruscant, where Qui-Gon can't reach him.

hm, I believe Qui-Gon's open view of the force would drive Anakim to seek knolodge from him, instead of hiding everything from the jedis, therefore, not living him completely isolated from the jedis. By that, I mean I don't believe he would have turned to the dark side so "easily" as he would have Qui-Gon, and not (only) Palpatine as a friend he could confess his thoughts, speak openly to and seek guidance from when the subject was "sensitive" for the jedis (such as his fears Padme would die). Besides, Qui-gon would likely teach him other ways to aproach things, unlike Obiwan, who was a straight out fighter that jumped into combat at first chance. The clone wars saga might have tried to show him as a diplomat, but his master said he was too battle minded on phantom menance, yoda said it on empire strikes back, anakin said that in attack of the clones (when he says his master jumped into trouble and anakin had to save him) and in revenge of the sith he just jump in front of grievous and his droid army. All that trained Anakin into the furious warmorger Palpatine had easy at controling. Trained by Qui-gon, he would likely think more before jumping into action, and may be not even jump into combat as first option in every situation, which would likely make him think more before joining Sidious, probably telling his master before telling Windu, and asking for guidance. Just think about that, if Qui-Gon was with him at the meditation chamber when he decided to join Sidious... instead of him being completely alone, not a damn jedi by his side. Qui-Gon could have persuaded him not to go to Palpatine, or, at least, delayed him enough that he wouldn't catch Windu threatening a defenseless Palpatine. (likely, Windu would be already dead, but that means Anakin wouldn't have betrayed the order there in a reaction, probably having a bit more concious of his options when choosing between joining the sith or staying a jedi).

I'd say this is the more likely outcome. Qui Gon would be seen as a trustworthy more fatherly figure who granted young Anakin his dream of being a Jedi. Qui Gon would have likely relieved Anakin's fears and when Palpatine is to be confronted, would have delayed Anakin or prevented Anakin from getting involved, stopping Palpatine's plans. Good post.

I think qui gon would have made Anikan more balanced... He would be a wiser man and be able to see through palpatines manipulations... Also having a master that he would be willing to tell that he has a wife would give him someone to confide in and consult about his visions making Palpatine no longer the only one who knows about his marriage... Also maul might've still survived the encounter because there's nothing that gin could do that would be worse than being cut in half

+Finn Harrity I agree, Obi Wan was still an apprentice and therefore Qui Gon would be able to clear Anakin's confusion in the force more easily due to his great understanding of the force. I believe Sidious would attempt to sway Vader but due to Vader's discipline under Qui Gon he would see that Palpatine is trying to manipulating him and hell, he might even fuck Palpatine in the ass with no vaseline at that point. So in conclusion I think that Vader would be much more disciplined in the force. He would instead confide in Qui Gon instead of Palpatine to seek guidance towards views on the force.

Try this. Qui Gon lives and defeats Darth Maul. The Jedi Council only approved Anakin's training because it was QG's last request. With no last request they never change their mind on training AS. Now Anakin is hanging out with Qui Gon but not receiving formal training. He learns to love with passion forbidden to Jedi but Qui Gon's influence on him is very strong. Now Anakin is free to become a Grey Jedi and Palpatine is unable to control him by inflaming his passions and fears because Qui Gon has exposed him to passions and fears his whole (normal ish) life and without the Power of Darth Vader and a still living Qui Gon on the side of the Jedi Order 66 and the transition from Republic to Empire fails. Palpatine is defeated but the Jedi Order is decimated leaving only Anakin and his living, loving, healthy family and Qui Gon who is now completely Grey Jedi. The Sith and the Jedi Order are no more bringing balance to the force, as prophesied.

Wouldn't being taught by Qui-Gon mean Anakin would be less likely to fall to the dark side? I think so because Anakin was oppressed by the Jedi Council because they made him bottle up his emotions and that forced him closer to the dark side, however since Qui-Gon would teach him the ways of the grey Jedi and be more accepting of Anakin's unstable emotional state, Qui-Gon would properly teach him to embrace but control his emotions, unlike the Jedi Council who just expected Anakin to pretend his emotions didn't exist
@vinee01m
@vinee01m 8 жыл бұрын
Orrr due to Qui-Gon's more lenient approach to light/dark as a Grey Jedi, Anakin would become more appreciative of the balance of the force. Instead of allowing darkness to consume him, he'd be able to wield it to his advantage to overcome Palpatine when he first discovers he is the Sith Lord. He also may not have formed a relationship with Padme, as part of that was down to him feeling stifled by Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan being a much less experienced teacher than Qui-Gon, and having witnessed his master's death at the hands of the dark side, was much more restrictive in his training of Anakin as he knew of the prophecy about his power - worrying that would lead to the dark side (the same going for emotional attachments). Qui-Gon however, would see Anakin as much more akin to a future Yoda or Mace Windu (probably the latter), and due to his greater knowledge of the force, would help Anakin essentially become like Luke in Episode VI, but even more powerful and wise.

Where I think this video goes wrong: 1.) Qui-Gon surviving has a much more positive effect on Anakin. Qui-Gon freed him from slavery and I believe Qui-Gon would have helped him deal with that initial anger and resentment. That alone goes a LONG way with Anakin's story. Assuming he is allowed to teach Anakin by the Council. Much of the reason for Kenobi being allowed to train Anakin was due to Ginn's death in the first place. It is entirely possible that Ginn leaves the order and takes Anakin with him to train on his own. In a sense, Anakin and Qui-Gon might become the hope for the galaxy following the Purge of the Jedi Order. 2.) Obi-Wan helps defeat Maul. This would probably have been enough to allow Kenobi to actually take the trials, rather than skipping them. Obi-Wan was something of a reclamation project as a Jedi Padawan. Windu didn't think he had sufficient strength in the Force to be a Jedi Knight and was about to be sent to the Agricorps before Ginn took him as a Padawan. Kenobi may or may not have passed the trials on his own. 3.) Dooku's fall to the Dark Side. This has nothing to do with Qui-Gon's death. Dooku's fall began with the slaughter of the Mandalorians at the Battle of Galidraan. Dooku was already deeply dissatisfied with the way the Jedi were operating. I believe Dooku would have still become Sidious' second apprentice. 4.) Ventress becomes a Sith. This is actually plausible. Ventress is a fallen Jedi. She might have been groomed as a potential replacement for Dooku, but ultimately, Sidious is still very humano-racist at his core. As seen in the novel, Darth Plagueis, once the Jedi are wiped out, the Sith Victory is completed and the nature of the Sith Order changes. In fact, the Empire's rule might have actually lasted longer without Vader there to eventually betray Palpatine. 5.) Order 66. With or without Vader, Order 66 will still occur and the Jedi will be nearly wiped out. Obi-Wan might be safe or they may come for him in the AgriCorps. Qui-Gon and Anakin go into hiding, in a similar fashion that Yoda does. But...6.) Windu never confronts Palpatine. Windu only went to confront Palpatine because Anakin relayed the information that Palpatine was a Sith Lord. Without Anakin's interference, Windu would have beaten Palpatine. But because he never knew of him, he would have never had the chance. He might have been forced into exile with everyone else. Many of the more powerful Jedi Masters might have survived the Purge having not been killed by the Emperor or Vader.

Counter suggestion on this one: what if the fact that Qui Gon was less rigid in his understanding of the force and teaching actually *better* equipped Anakin to face down his inner darkness? I feel like a few of the effects of Qui-gon's survival were overlooked here: firstly, as has been said in other comments, Qui-gon's teachings being less strict would be more likely to help anakin, as he seems more likely to support dealing with emotions, rather than supressing them. secondly, it's been mentioned that Qui-gon was far more attuned to the living force than any other jedi, and that had he survived, he would likely have figured out or sensed that palpatine was the other sith. I feel that would have a massive impact on the storyline, but it doesn't seem to be brought up at all.

Naw. I think having Qui Gon around would actually lead to Ani becoming a well rounded grey Jedi. I honestly don't think Anakin would fall to the dark side easily if he were taught under Qui Gon. Qui Gon was a servant of the force, he didn't allow the force to serve under him. Treating the force as power is ultimately cause misuse, but if Anakin really knew what the force was, his descent into darkness might not happen. Not to mention Obi Wan's and Anakin's personalities clash, and a lot of Anakin's emotions and outlashes Obi Wan simply turned a blind eye to whereas I think Qui Gon would have confronted him but in a more peaceful way. Instead of clashing with Anakin he would be a guide. Obi Wan was a great duelist, but a bad teacher for Anakin.

I see it taking a different path. Qui-gon's grey streak and indifference to being on the Jedi council would quell Anakins resolve to be the sort of jedi he admired in Obi-wan. Qui-gon likely would have allowed Anakin to maintain contact with shmi skywalker, or at least provide her with help out of her current situation because of his first hand relationship with her. Qui-gon's training which would have allowed Anakin to deal with his emotions rather than suppressing them. Qui-gon's brand of training coupled with the lack of hatred developed from the sand people slaughter would have made it much harder for Anakin to turn. The outcome, a unit of Dooku, Windu, Obi-wan and Fisco would have defeated Sidious in battle then arresting him with Dooku and Fisco being the only Jedis killed.

I don't think that Anakin would have turned dark if Qui-Gon lived. I think that Anakin would stay light because he would have had not only a strong teacher that would not let Anakin delve too deep into the Dark Side, but would also be a father in some ways. Other than Padme Anakin never really opened up to anyone largely, I think, due to having just lost the only family he ever knew. Once Anakin's mother died Padme was really the only person he considered family because she became his wife. While I am sure that Anakin thought of Obi-Wan as his brother he also saw him as a friend. That would put them on equal footing in the mind of a young Skywalker. With Qui-Gon he would have had a father and mentor, and as such Anakin would not be so quick to disobey the orders he was given. Qui-Gon would have also had an easier time getting Anakin to stop, think, and see the big picture. This in turn would have allowed Anakin to see that Palpatine was merely using him for his own ends just as he had with Dooku, Maul, and every single other Dark Jedi that they had encountered during the Clone Wars.

I doubt he falls to the dark side if Qui-Gon trains him. He was a much more skilled trainer. Knowledge of the dark side from Qui-Gon would've have given him for sight into it's powers and limitations. Remember, he only went to the dark side because he believed it would save his family. The Jedi's phobia of the dark side and complete avoidance of any questioning of it drove him to it. They wouldn't even let him look in the archives to answer some of the questions he had. He would've been much more open to talk to Qui-Gon about these things (who he would view as a father) and Qui-Gon would have the knowledge and wisdom to answer them. Obi Wan on the other hand was viewed more like an elder brother. He knew Obi Wan didn't have any deeper knowledge because he knew Obi Wan was just a rookie like himself. He knew he couldn't go to him. He couldn't trust the Council because they were always wary of him and were OBVIOUSLY holding him back and keeping information from him. The only one offering answers was Palpatine. And he had to go to the dark side to get them. Qui-Gon being alive to guide him eliminates any reason to ever fall to the dark side.

Some Psych logic. The reason some kids (under great positive parents) do a 180 and radically turn away from positive society values (or negative if having bad parents) is because if a kid is influenced into edgier stuff, they loose the emotional connection to their parents and hence may become more radicalized as they cannot speak/cope with their parents who would become far more disappointed as a consequence. So with Qui gon training Anakin, if Quigon was less institutionalized than Obi wan, Anakin may in fact have had a better time connecting and coping with Quigon as opposed to the polar opposite positive Obiwan which Anakin could not connect with and thus held in his fears.

I dont think Anakin would have gone to the Dark Side AS easily or at all even if Qui-Gon survived. Because of his rebellious nature and experience Qui-Gon would have been a more compassionate and suitable teacher for someone as unorthodox as Anakin. Part of Anakin's turn was his frustrations over the stifling and suffocating rules of Obi-Wan and Yoda. Qui-Gon was more gray zone about everything so I think Anakin would have been a mentally healthier and less conflicted Jedi. Obi-Wan was too conservative and too naive to see the disaster unfolding beneath his very nose. You cant fit a square peg into a round whole. I think Qui-Gon would have recognized that and catered Anakin's training to his unusual needs.

I think he would have found a way to go make sure she was ok, and she indeed may have been saved if Qui-Gon had become his teacher It was his mother's death that planted the seed of fear in Anakin's heart when he had the same nightmare about Padme. His reaction might not have been so extreme had his mother not perished as a result of inaction which Qui-Gon would likely have taken

Actually. Qui Gon was always focused on the living force, this is how he found anakin in the 1st place. Had Qui Gon survived, I believe that this connection to the living force would enable him to see through Chancellor Palpatines facade and discover his dark secret long before palpatine could turn anakin. In the book Darth Plaguis, we see that Plaguis, was afraid of Qui Gon getting sent to Naboo for this reason and why Plaguis told Palpatine that Maul MUST kill Qui Gon.

I think what you've said up until 2:54 is accurate, let me explain. 1: I don't really see a reason Sidious would order Ventress to take an apprentice. Sidious believes in the rule of two, it has been shown in the cases of Dooku and Vader that Sidious was very opposed to the two of them having apprentices. 2: The confrontation between Savage, Ventress and Anakin is simply speculation on your part. There are countless different things that could happen and this is only one. A rather unrealistic one in my opinion as well. 3: This next part is speculation of my own. Anakin would likely be quite a bit closer to Qui-Gon than Obi-Wan. Qui-Gon interacted with Anakin quite a bit before the battle with Maul. When he was killed, Anakin became the apprentice to Obi-Wan who he barely knew at the time. Furthermore, as Qui-Gon was a gray jedi Anakin would very likely feel much more comfortable revealing his darker urges your example being Padme. Obi-Wan helped him ignore it, but I believe Qui-Gon may be able to help Anakin overcome them instead, having experienced similar events such as love for Tahl, hate at her death, and overcoming her loss. 4: If this is indeed the case, then Anakin is quite likely to overcome Sidious's temptations, which could have a large impact. Also, side note, you forgot to factor in Grievous. He and Obi-Wan fought a lot, so without the defensive form he is likely to fall prey to Grievous's savage assault.

I don't like this particular story because you present Anakin's fall as being inevitable which I feel is bullshit. Now I will give you my take on this arc, Obi Wan and Qui Gon defeat Maul on Naboo, however for the final stages of his training Qui Gon has to complete his training but the council will allow him to train Anakin afterwards. Qui Gon would take Anakin as his padawan learner eventually and Dooku would leave the order and fall to the dark side but now because Qui Gon is alive, it would be much harder for Dooku to be a loyalist for the Sith, meanwhile Anakin is now 20 years old living his life happily with his mother whom he had rescued with Qui Gon while he was 17 and his girlfriend Padmé. We arrive at the lightsaber duel in AOTC where Dooku is pleased to see Qui Gon again and Qui Gon asks 'why master? why are you doing this?' Dooku replies 'well, the Jedi seem to be oblivious to the fact that there is a Sith lord running the republic my friend, my plan was to go undercover as an apprentice and destroy him from within and now with you and your apprentice at my side we can destroy him!' Qui Gon is now suspicious of Palpatine and he says 'how could he get the new army to turn on us? I thought he needed emergency powers to initiate order 66.' Remember Qui Gon was very knowledgable about politics and even though he won't do what his master did, he would be very open to this idea, after much persuasion Anakin and Qui Gon get Dooku back to the light and he takes them to Kamino and tells the cloners to stop the placement of inhibitor chips inside the clones heads and after this he tells them that he will play on with this war but be secretly aiding them in their quest for justice. After this, Anakin and Padmé propose to each other and marry and now Anakin would be much more open to discuss his marriage with Qui Gon, his mother and now Dooku, now the war begins and Anakin is told he would be granted Ahsoka as an apprentice who would make it to the rank of Jedi knight and Anakin would be promoted to Jedi master. Anakin has just learned the ability of force ghosts from Qui Gon and now we arrive at the time of ROTS and Anakin is a high flyer now with a support group of Qui Gon, Ahsoka Tano, Padmé, his mother and Plo Koon by his side. Now he, Qui Gon and Ahsoka would be headed for the invisible hand to deal with Dooku and Grevious, they would all confront Dooku who would remain alive but captured to keep the senate happy and to keep his rendezvous with the 3 secret, they would all escape from Grevious who would go to Utapau and contact Sidious. Anakin, Qui Gon and Ahsoka would return with Dooku explaining that they thought it would be better to see the Count give some crucial separatist info up and an easier chance of winning the war, Anakin informs Qui Gon that Padmé is now pregnant and getting strange visions of her death in childbirth however Qui Gon assures him saying the visions have most probably been created by the secret Sith Dooku had warned them about and they would secretly release him from custody saying he can live freely now on Soreno. Anakin is told of the identity of Darth Sidious by the man himself and he informs Qui Gon and Ahsoka and tells them to get to Mace Windu and tell them of their findings who would bring them, Quinlan Vos had just returned from a mission on Bospitty so he would join them, Plo Koon, Kit Fisto and Luminara Undilli would aid in the fight. The fight is long and some of the Jedi are dead like Quinlan Vos due to fatigue from his mission earlier and Kit Fisto but the rest come out on top with Anakin striking down the Sith lord and bringing peace to the Jedi, the republic, himself and above all that, his family. Anakin would be at his full power and at peace in the force awaiting the birth of his children Jinn and Leia and now he would be living peacefully in the Skywalker house of Naboo with Jinn and Leia undergoing training from their father in the force and live very peaceful lives. The End

I don't think Anakin falls into the darkside either. Qui Gonn would have taught Anakin how to let the force use him instead of him using the force. The Jedi and Sith seem to treat the force as a weapon. Qui Gonn wouldn't have been opposed to Anakin's attachment to Padme, but he would simply warn him about becoming too close with someone. He also would have went back to save Anakin's mother, something Obi Wan forgot about. Only reason he didn't do it first is because he died and didn't have enough money. Also Obi Wan's personality clashed with Anakin's. Their relationship was almost more like a rivalry due to the age and personalities. That relationship simply helped feed his descent since it was about Anakin becoming more powerful. Qui Gonn would have also showed Anakin that becoming a master is irrelevant, since the Council's decision to not make him one fed his anger and added to confusion.

Yes, and no his fall isn't inevitable here because he has a support group. Tell me this, if you were Anakin Skywalker and had a support group of Qui Gon Jinn, Count Dooku, Plo Koon, your mother, your wife and Ahsoka Tano, would you fall to the dark side? No because 6 people are more important than 1 and Qui Gon fucking freed your family from slavery, Ani would be forever grateful for that

Quite the opposite, Shadowstarthe1st. With Jinn as a master, he could have talked about such things, because Qui-Gon was never as strict as Obi-Wan after TPM. He kinda was a wild card among the jedi and would teach Anakin the way of a "grey jedi". The council would not be happy, but seeing the result in a damm powerfull jedi, they would choose to overlook that. Obi-Wan may even become less stricter and more open with his master alive.

Raises one question, much of anakin's anger stemed from feeling like the council was holding him back, which wouldn't be the case under qui gon, or at least not as badly. I also think qui gon's lessons of patience would stick better with anakin than with obi won. While they may have beat darth maul, it is hard to say if he wouldn't have lost in the same way. To be sure the change in the universe would be massive, but unpredictable. Another key change is that not mastering in the defensive style, obi won may have died to grevious. Also the changes through the entire clone wars become rather unpredictable. There is a lot of time between the first and third movies. As an additional thought, the changes may lead to a place where akakin isn't scared for padme's life and lets mace windu kill the emperor...

In fact, I believe it would be Qui Gon who kept Anakin from falling to the dark side. You see, at first Obi-wan was a bad master choice for Anakin. They are very different in that Anakin has a deep bandit line and Obi-wan is the poster boy scout of the Jedi cult. Qui Gon, on the other hand, was a flirtatious guy like Anakin so he could understand and reach him better. True, Anakin would still fall in love with Padme and kill Ventris and Opress, but as the years passed Qui Gon would come to Qui Gon as he would gain more confidence over the years than Obi-wan could. He had come to Anakin's defense in all matters and always had his back. It goes without saying that Anakin will trust Qui-Gon about his secret marriage to Padme and even the fact that she is pregnant, and Obi-wan, an ardent follower of Jedi methods, will surrender him. What pushed Anakin into the Dark Side the most, more than killing a Sith could do, was his fear of Padme's death and his vision that it would happen. As always, he would go to Qui-Gon for guidance and help Anakin pass this turbulent time, even going so far as to swear an oath to protect Padme and the unborn Luke and Leia, possibly removing him from Coruscant. and it's a safe place so it calms Anakin's many fears and allows him to stay open-minded. Thus, when Palpatine tried to swing Anakin towards the Dark Side and revealed that he was a Sith Lord, Anakin would turn to his trusted lord Qui-Gon and tell him what he had learned with the other Jedi and the two of them. He would face Palpatine and kill him, thus wiping out the Sith forever. Eventually, the Jedi would learn that Anakin had married Padme and his two children, and would move the Order to a new territory as the strongest Jedi would marry and have a family. They would probably take him out of his command, but when the Clone Wars ended with the death of Palpatine / Sidious, Anakin would accept their decision and possibly return to Naboo with Padme and his children. There, I see Anakin training and teaching Luke and Leia about how to use their strength and abilities, most likely with the help of Qui-Gon, who will also be released from Anakin's mission of keeping secrets. With Padme's political connections as well as Qui-Gon being on the council, he would prevent the Jedi from taking Luke and Leia, leaving their education entirely to Anakin and Qui-Gon, and both would gladly take over. This could potentially give birth to a new Jedi Order that competes with the original but does not clash, leading to an even bigger story in Episode 4 and completely changing the course of Star Wars history. One of the biggest problems I see in the canon story is that Anakin never fully trusted Obi-wan or the Jedi Order. Sure, he would sacrifice his life for them, but when it came to his deepest secrets and thoughts, he didn't really feel his lonely demeanor that he could turn to anyone. However, Qui-Gon was very similar to Anakin and would understand him better and could reach him in ways that Obi-wan or any member of the cult could do. This is why Palpatine has such an easy time manipulating Anakin. Anakin wanted to have someone who understood him and felt he could truly trust. Palpatine played on this by pacifying Anakin, agreeing with him, and encouraging or even rewarding his rogue behavior. Especially the Obi-wan order never did this. They always put their heads with Anakin on seemingly every issue and correct him or say he was wrong. With Qui-Gon, however, he would understand how Anakin was feeling and use his own experience to guide Anakin, teaching him how to follow the Order's rules, and also find a way to do what he felt. yes, even if it contradicts the orders of the Council. This causes Anakin to bond more with Qui-Gon as both a mentor and a friend, and trust him completely. I hope you enjoyed my version on this

I don't agree with your analysis of Qui Gon's teachings, it's not that his rebellious nature makes him dark, he is just a Jedi that hasn't given in to the fear the Jedi Order had of turning to the dark side which caused them to ignore the living force and prioritize rules and regulations over what the Jedi are supposed to do. I also think they would've gone back to free Anakin's mother because Qui Gon would've read Anakin's dreams as premonitions and the force speaking through him. If Anakin hadn't lost his mother, his anger wouldn't have been so out of control and he wouldn't have fallen to the dark side (IMO). Very cool story though.

Personally, I think that as Qui-gon was a more experienced teacher and particularly with his own conflicts with the Jedi code, he would have been able to give Anakin a better balance, stopping him falling to the dark-side. I'm personally of the opinion that had Qui-Gon survived and been allowed to train Anakin, he should have been able to prevent his fall to the Dark Side. The way I see it, Anakin felt that Obi-Wan didn't understand him, which is why he let himself get swayed easily by Palpatine. Qui-Gon was more open-minded, and having more years of experience and wisdom under his belt, he could have given Anakin the moral and emotional support he sought without the negative consequences. That said, your scenario is pretty interesting too, I'll give you that.

Like many here are saying i think you completely missed the mark on Qui-Gon's relationship with Anakin. Anakin was always desperately looking for a father figure, which he immediately saw in Qui-Gon after they met, he was the perfect master to guide Anakin later on. Obi-Wan was at most like a slightly older brother to him, he never really tried to understand Anakin, he never managed to figure out when to be harsh and when to be lenient, he ridiculed his fears and, i feel, never saw his potential, not like Qui-Gon did, he also never saw how dangerous he could be if he fell to the dark side either. That's not what Anakin needed, he always needed guidance, he needed his father figure void to be filled, someone to comfort his fears and understand him, to help him deal with his issues with authority and following rules, something which all jedi failed to do and which Palpatine easily exploited. You're also, imho, underestimating the importance of Doku not falling to the dark side, which again only happened because Qui-Gon died. The feeling i got, especially from the clone wars cartoon was that he was a very important pawn for Palpatine, i'd wager not having him would have been a major hole to his efforts, one that someone like Ventress could never fill, and a major boon to the jedi's strength.

Personally, I think both Dark and Light sides had one "master" that could have prevented the tragedy of Anakin and actually nurture his abilities fully to either side. The Light side had Qui Gon Jinn, whom would have kept Anakin on the light side. The Dark side had Darth Plagueis, whom would have kept Anakin on the dark side. Both would have been his father figure since they both deeply believed in Anakin far more than Sidious or Obi Wan. Their absence led to a more tug of war between both sides of the force, ultimately leading to the annihilation of both sides and creating "balance."

I think it would have played out differently. The council has serious doubts about training Anakin at all, in any capacity. When Qui Gon returns victorious wanting to train him personally they would have even greater doubts due to Qui Gon shunning the code in favor of his instincts. Though the council might go for the one, they likely would not have gone for both and would reject Qui Gon's request. As head strong as Qui Gon is, he leaves the order altogether to train Ani only for it to inadvertently work in his favor with Palpatine no longer being a constant presence in his life slowly poisoning his mind and prodding him in Padme's direction with Jedi assignments as an excuse. Unlike OB1 who Ani never truly meshed with, he finds a mentor he truly respects in Qui Gon and heeds his wisdom. If Ani still had a romance with Padme then I agree he would open up to Qui Gon about it, but that only would have taken pressure off of him that had been simmering for years to a boiling point in canon. I see Ani's fall as being less likely had QG survived. He was more experienced in mentoring than OB1, Ani trusted him implicitly and QG would not have constantly hammered the code onto him like Windu and the others would have. Instead of teaching Ani to suppress emotion he would instead have tought him to accept emotion as part of life but to never lose control of them for the sake of the present. If anything QG's reliance in instincts slowly but surely would have exposed the dark lord while the council remained blind. In such an outcome I could easily see an Episode 3 playing out with a balanced and calmer Anakin confronting Palpatine as the matured true embodiment of the chosen one while Qui Gon engages his old master Dooku. Qui-Gon is clearly outmatched but unexpectedly turns likely defeat into a draw, taking his mentor down with him. Ani in contrast engages in the most epic duel in history, Sidious being outright frustrated with his poisonous tongue and taunts utterly failing to undermine the fully realized gray jedi. Sidious is narrowly defeated and the Republic saved. Qui Gon would have changed everything, though he would still not have lived to see the outcome he had so long labored for.

+Katie Persons Yes. This is exactly what I was thinking but you explained it so much better than I could. It had a lot to do with the Jedi's repressive nature that caused Anakin's fall..... and Qui-gon most likely wouldn't have been one to repress. It was among other things, of course..... but that was a very large part of it.
@katiepersons6575
@katiepersons6575 8 жыл бұрын
I think it should also be noted that Sidious has a weakness not many people touch upon. His greatest weapon isn't his lightsaber or even his Force powers. It's his manipulative tongue. That's what did in the Republic and the Jedi order. Deprive him of that and you've effectively halved his power. Even without it he is still a world class Force user, but this too could have been overcome had the Jedi not lost their way. Yoda is a personification of everything that is wrong with modern Jedi. He tries to overcome Sidious through force of arms, he tries to over power him when in this regard the Dark Side is supreme. Had he fought with serenity and patience, utilizing Soresu he could have weathered the storm and overcome the dark lord. Instead he shirks the Jedi's greatest strength to fight a Sith on what is basically their home term. A most wise jedi Yoda is not.
@azure9809
@azure9809 8 жыл бұрын
I agree. The jedi of the time were blind..... perhaps that's what the prophecy's message was, in a way. That one day the jedi will be so blind that they won't be able to resist or even see themselves being destroyed from within. That it will only take one extremely powerful force user to bring balance and destroy the arrogant and stagnant society they uphold. Though.... if that was it.... it was a very bloody way of doing it. Plus I doubt george lucas put that much thought into it haha.

I think what is interesting is that the Jedi being out of touch is even a thing in the original trilogy. Yoda and OB1 keep luke in the dark and even lie to him to manipulate him to their ends. They're still trying to overcome Sidious through force of arms, honing Luke's martial prowess with the hope that he'll hunt down and murder his father likely with no knowledge of who he even was. Even when asked outright Yoda didn't want to confirm his identity. The two Jedi go so far as to tell Luke to abandon trying to save Vader, that he's more machine than man. But how does Luke overcome the dark side in the end? It isn't through the Force or lightsaber combat, it's through love. That is what the old Jedi could never figure out, and worse, even shunned. Perhaps the Jedi order would have survived had they sought to bring out the best in people that had lost their way and showed mercy, instead of simply relying on brawn and gutting defeated opponents. The straw that broke the camels back was Windu exposing Jedi Hypocrisy to Anakin by attempting to kill a defeated opponent. "He's too dangerous to leave alive" he says. The words of a Jedi, but also the words of a Sith (earlier in the film) as well.
@azure9809
@azure9809 8 жыл бұрын
Very true. It's sad that the cycle repeated itself (as far as I can see) in between episodes 6 and 7. Maybe not due to Luke following the old outdated teachings of the old jedi hopefully though...... it would be unfortunate for him to have regressed into their ways after the battle of Endor.
