I think we'll do OK though as an economy, we have to - the banks the rich the royals and politicians have to at least maintain their income if not increase it. Theodor was Hitlers personal physician and it was found in his personal records and notes that Hitler infact got a daily dose of Eukadol,and was a very unpleasant person if he didnt get it, throwing rages and tantrums. I would like to note that i took oxys a couple times and if they wear out or even if theyre still working, i would get uncontrollably angry when something annoying would happen, it reminded me completely about the outburst of rage Hitler was said to have (the way historians claim). Ive been telling people this but these are not all the facts as some facts would have people feeling attacked personally, and i would not like to jump to conclusions, so i wont give my opinion about it. But if you google this for yourself you will be disgusted by the additional information, i would strongly suggest to look up Theodor Morells heritage and the power he and other characters had over Hitler. @caivsklei42742 жыл бұрын
@SonOfThunor for multiple reasons: 1. The languages are very close to each other, example; (Dutch) "wat doe je vandaag?" (English) what are you doing today?" Literal translation "what do you today?". (Dutch) "wat is dat?" (English) "what is that?". 2. Unlike most other countries we don't dub foreign media, and most movies and shows we watch come from the us. This is probably has a larger impact than the first reason. A friend from the uk once pointed out how weird it was we said "elevator" instead of "lift", because in dutch we say lift, just like in the UK, but the US calls it an elevator. We didn't learn that in school, because they teach British English. There are more reasons, but these are the main ones. I do have to note that our proficiency in English is a bit over exaggerated. We will understand you perfectly fine, can read and write it without too much trouble and don't need subtitles, but when it comes to speaking, many will struggle a bit, because most of us only "receive" in english, but don't orally "send" it. If that makes sense.

Haha, making a video about "finnic-empire" in the vein of this video would make the map of Russia very messy if Masaman used the 25% of 25% rule :D It seems a large portion of Russians are more or less from finnic background but integrated into Russian traditions and language when they took over the land. It's like including coastal areas of Finland into this germanic empire because of Swedish speaking minorities (still Finns) living in the area, but even worse :D But compromises are to be done in these kind of fantastical scenarios, which leads it to always grind someone's gears :)

The amount of people who trouble seperating german and germanic is shocking. This video alone will probably help make this clearer to ”some of us” out there. And as always keep up the good work.

The Anglophones should've called the Germans Dutch, since it is a cognate to the German word for German Deutsche, while the Dutch should've been called Netherlanders, since Dutch people call themselves Nederlander. That way people don't get confused between German and Germanic. They do refer to Pennsylvanian Dutch correctly though, since it technically is a dialect of German.
@胡元Jön Why is that? There is significant enough difference in what they mean. Germanic is a broader category, in the same Iranic is compared to, Iranian with the latter including groups like Pasthuns, tajiks. Now if you arguing that it’s all semantics and they should be used interchangeably, then I could agree with that, but that’s not how most people use or undertstand the terms today, in most cases. My comment was just a way to highlight how people seem to use them very loosely and with no clear definition outside academica or people with extreme intrest in topics like this.

@@kakibackup2koujo612 From my point of view there are several reasons why to not seperate these two words: 1.) The idea that the Germans are one "Volk" is very modern. The modern "Germans" are a confederation (Bund) of different Germanic peoples. These peoples have been welded together over time not by a wilful or decisive unification, but due to sheer necessity in times of foreign aggression and political upheaval. The French menace, the Habsburg family and the Prussian dream of domination are all part of this developmemt. The term "deutsche Völker" (German peoples) is still mentioned in an early version of the German national anthem during the age of Napoleon. The idea of unifying all "Germans" into one people was as radical as the idea of unifying all "Germanic" people into one nation. Not long ago there had been bitter conflicts over religion (the Thirty Years war actually tops the second world war in terms of casualties per capita). The Saxons still mostly spoke "Low German", which is actually closer to Dutch than to German. This is why the German identity has been very different from place to place. Saxons, Franks, Swabians, Thuringians, Prussians and Bavarians are still more different to each other than English and Scots are. Saxons might actually be more similar to the English than to Bavarians, not only in language, but also in customs, culture and political ideas. Therefore making no difference between a Bavarian and a Saxon and calling them "German" is like making no difference betwern an Englishman and a Dutchman and calling them "Germanic"/"German"/"theedish"/"Deutsch"/"Diets", whatever you will. The idea of a united "Germany" has no inner essence and has been politically engineered. It should be used to describe a "nationality", but not for an "ethnicity". 2.) I claim that all old Germanic cultures had a common "Germanic" identity. Examples of this can be seen in the great Germanic literary works like Beowulf, Nibelungenlied and the Thidrekssaga (which was based on German sources). All these stories tell the fate of Germanic peoples of different tribes. For example: Beowulf is about a Danish prince, written by an Anglo-Saxon. The Nibelungenlied and the Thidrekssaga are about Gothic, Thuringian and Burgundian heros (all east-germanic). The Thidrekssaga shows that the nordic countries also feld related to other Germanic peoples. Still the most important aspect would have been the common mythology, at least until christianization. 3.) The terms have a very political and religious note when used in Germany. The pre-HRE and pre-christian "Germanics" are to be separated from the "civilized" and christianized "Germans". This is why most contemporary books on German history begin with Otto I. and not with Teutobod. The "Germanic" people are literary ignored and cast asside in modern "German history". Even the fact that the Dutch, Austrians and Swiss all considered themselves German even long after the Middle Ages is overlooked completely. The present-day borders of these nations are somehow sacrosanct in historic discourse, even when they didn't exist yet. After the third Reich pan-Germanism and the term "germanic" have been frowned upon, mostly because the Nazis at least on paper advocated for both of these.

It's true that most Dutch people have a very slight accent when speaking English, but I've never heard or met a Dutch person that sounded like a native speaker even if their English was excellent. I've only met two non-native English speakers who passed as being a native speaker and they were two German men I met in Shanghai. It was only when the people I was with asked what part of England they were from that one of them told us they were German. Otherwise we would have assumed they were privately educated in the home counties.
@Masaman5 жыл бұрын
I suppose that was my bias. I knew a few Dutch international students and we'd have never known if they didn't tell us. Their English was that good, we all thought they were American.
@magnusbruce40515 жыл бұрын
@@Masaman I think it's fair to say that many non-native English speakers often have a slight American accent when they speak English due to exposure to American media. That may well be why you have not quite picked up on an accent yourself. As an Englishman living in a university town in England, I am accustomed to being able to track what city someone is from by their accent, so I do also appreciate that my experiences are different. Generally it is very easy to tell who is foreign and who is local. However it really does not matter to me because I will always meet interesting people no matter where they grew up.
