They ruined our entire life, culture and everything Jason. Also the second revolution is what they brought up, you know why? Shah started to be autonomous at his last years, watch this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n57MnWSfftV8j6M we are not Arab and not chose Islam. The first ever human rights are written by Persian (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyrus_Cylinder), we had same rules for Men and Women 2500 years ago (www.iranreview.org/content/Documents/Women_s_Rights_in_Ancient_Persia.htm) (also notice that the second war between Persia and Arabs happened when a women was in charge of governing Persia).

Farshid Varno So many Persian propaganda enforcing their justified circlejerks of Persian identity Wake up sheep, Iran is an Islamic country like other Islamic nations And Egypt king, Hammurabi made the first human rights declaration, not Cyrus the great And no, the war between Arabs and Persians is not because of women in a high position, it’s plainly because you’re not Arabs. The women things is just a lazy justification. So stop, and believe me when I say your culture today made by the mix islam (Shia though) and Persian So, neglecting one will neglected other because it’s already integral for the majority of Iranian

One thing a lot of people don't know is that the US really didn't want to do the 1953 coup. President Truman turned down the British offer to overthrow their government and bring back the Shah, turned it down multiple times actually. The primary reasons that the US finally went along with the British plan was twofold: - the British blackmailed the US by threatening not to help in the Korean War effort. They were threatening not to send their armed forces and help then US stop the North Korean invasion of South Korea, the Korean War was an extremely brutal war with millions of casualties. The British had a card to play and they played it. - British intelligence straight up lied to the US about the communist threat in 1953. There was absolutely no communist threat. This was during the Cold War and McCarthyism and the US was worried about the spread of communism. The rest is history.

Shah gov indeed was a dictator by today's standards, But he wasn't a dictator himself. All he cared about and think about was Iran's and Iranians comfort and improvement. Iran was the top 5 military power on the earth. Iran's economy was improving day by day. Iranians were respected across the globe and Iran's passport was valid in more than 93 countries including the USA, UK, France, Germany, etc. Each USD was equal to 10 IRR and minimal labor wage was 2,100 IRR which is 210 USD. But now 1$ equals to 210,000 IRR and minimal labor wage is 2,100,000 which in turn equals to 61 USD. And also the inflation rate in 1978 was 11/8% but now it's 41%. Now the Islamic republic is better or Shah dictatorship??

the main reason for the 1953 coup was the UK was searching for cheap oil from the company BP....british persian petroleum and the USA did not need any reasons to remove, any government worldwide : either directly threatning their intrests or presumed communist takeover**.. the UK shamefully used the communist pretext with the USA, too engineer a shit episode in history, a secular party and democratically elected government was overthrown- by a pro western autocratic puppet**... the legacy from 1953 was often cited as the reason for the later revolution and opposition too the shah- from secular-liberal-communist and islamic opponents uniting briefly together too remove the sick shah-who had cancer**.. the shah was a autocract and oppresive, the biggest debate of any iranian is, did the country improve after 1979 or become worse

The Iranians never hated Western culture or ideologies, I mean there's never really been a moment since the early 1900's that Iranians did not embrace western culture and music, especially American culture. AlternateHistoryHub Also a thing you forgot to mention is that here in the west we think there was just one revolution in 1979, but in fact there were 2, with the second one coming during the end of the first and the second one being the Islamic fueled one, similar to how people feared Egypt back in the Arab spring, when the people overthrew the dictator and everyone thought a super strong anti-western government would come in and take over, well that actually happened in Iran, it started at as a anti-oppressive thing, but then got usurped and turned into what is more commonly known today.

Iran is a Radical Shia State where as Al-Qaeda,ISIS,Saudi Arabia etc are Radical Sunni organisations and countries,in fact Iran and Al-Qaeda are natural enemies due go the longstanding religious differences between Shia's and Sunnis. The ridiculous gap between the rich and poor, high unemployment and a serious illiteracy rate would still garner protests.

A united Netherlands would have been too big and strong to just walk through. So either the Germans only run headlong into French fortifications or ... They bring the United Dutch on board. The Germans were planning the war as early as 1904 (well, everyone was, really) so, the Dutch would have had time to gear up for something big. Of course, this is the era of the secret alliances so the Dutch build up their fleet, officially in response to the German build-up and when the shit hits the fan ... sudden the Dutch navy sorties alongside the Hochseeflotte ... and the UK collectively shits its pants.

Thanks for informative presentation about modern Persia. There are however some mistakes in the presentation: 1- The Shah before the revolution - that you show his photo - is Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, not Reza Pahlavi. Reza was his father. 2- The war with Iraq lasted 8 years, not 7even years. 3- Emphasizing on Islamic identity in Iran is too much in this presentation and a bit far from reality. Iranians (Persians) were Zoroastrian before the arrival of Islam in 7th AD. The Persians mostly care about their national Persian identity rather than Islamic one. Iran is different from Turkey or Arab countries where the main identity is Islamic.

I say that if a nation wants to be a 1st world nation let it act like a first world nation: Equal rights for men and women, no racism, universal healthcare, a democracy run by the people, and a unity view of all mankind. There is a reason why Turkey can never enter the EU: one because it is an autocratic dictatorship, two because it won't give up northern Cyprus, bloody Curvas, and finally because it just isn't European and wants to kill Israel the rightful rulers of Jerusalem. Any country that is not a friend of Israel will perish as the Bible says. You will find out when Syria, Iran, Turkey and all nations gather against Israel and they still fail to destroy Israel because God's people are Jewish and Jerusalem is Israel's and we the church were drafted in as St. Paul said in Romans. Jesus will return and He will protect His people and Islam will be proven as a lie.

Overthrowing Mossadegh was one of the worst foreign policy decisions the United States has ever made. Maybe the very worst. It went against every principle we as Americans are supposed to have. A little note about Reza Pahlavi the son. In our timeline he actually supports a liberal democratic Iran ruled mainly by the people and elected government. He only supports a referendum held by the Iranian people to possibly bring back the Imperial family as ceremonial heads of state. I don’t know if he would still think this way without the life changing experience of the Islamic Revolution but it is possible he could have been a political reformer to whatever extent. Great video!

NebulaGFx Back in the 40's and 50's, Communism was trying to put itself everywhere: Communist regimes were forcefully installed in most of Eastern Europe, China had been taken over by Mao Zedong's Forces, the Korean Civil War ends in a Stalemate with a Communist North and Authoritarian (not Democratic) South (But it does become Democratic later), Vietnam is currently in the midst of a Civil War (again with a Commie North and Authoritarian South), and several smaller things like the Berlin Blockade and the Czech Coup. When one country is trying to force its repressive regime everywhere, through violent wars and assaults, people start to worry that maybe they're something to fear and hate. Like the Nazi's before them and the Islamo-fascists after. That's not to say that the United States wasn't trying to force Democracy (or "democracy") on other countries either, but Democracy tends to be less brutal and repressive, and the United States (save for a few Coups and Wars) preferred to use money and goods over armed conflict.

It's a lazy, feeble excuse to not improve relations and social class by making everyone the same. I'm an Iranian, and I wouldn't believe the future would be so smooth for us, even if the US hadn't made anychanges throughout our history. While the basic problem is within the people and their education, It takes a long time for them to learn they can decide for themselves, What mosadegh did back then wouldn't last for long as the majority of people wouldn't consider that crucial for their lives, they had been ruled by kings all their lives and would believe that a country wouldn't last without a king. That democracy would not last for long in Iran and would change either by Russia or a populist corrupted politician unless people are educated enough to understand that they should decide for themselves, Otherwise all they want is a good economy

There were actually 3 major events that could have driven Iran into a different path. Before the 1953 coup, the first one was an attempt to establish a constitutional monarchy around the end of 1st world war, but it was hindered by Reza shah of Iran (father of 1979 shah of Iran) and religious clergies supporting absolute monarchy.

Wrong! The Parliament voted for Reza Shah who was at the time the Prime Minister and before that the head of Army and NO, the constitution DID not change. It was the exact same constitution. In fact, anyone in Iran knows, the eligious clergies had their time of life during Qajar and hated Reza shah.

mossadiq was very popular (including amongst americans)but incapable of making practical decisions and one thing this video doesn't mention was the strong stalinist soviet presence along his border with many active agents inside iran fomenting instability. recall afghanistan also had a shah monarch who moved for modernization but was killed/overthrown by pro moscow communists who then invited the soviets in-which is why tribesmen formed the taliban. mossadiq nationalized england's oil refinery but had no people trained by BP to run it. the british navy blockaided iran's ports to prevent any existing oil from being sold which meant NO NATIONAL INCOME thus impending economic collapse. all mossadiq had to do was pick up the phone to several american oil companies with limited contracts for training and tech support and the USNAVY would have stymied the british blockaid pronto. the longer he stalled the more it looked like he might let the soviets in, which is what british agents told the u.s. president.

Iran under Mosaddegh would not have been prosperous. His attempt to nationalize Iran’s oil was short sighted as Iran did not have the expertise to effectively utilise the oil. Not to mention the British Embargo would cripple Iran. The Tudeh Party were also running around like crazy under Mosaddegh, and it is very possible we would see more upheavals under his rule. Lastly, Mosaddegh was an authoritarian who tried to give home self emergency powers, stoped elections as soon as his party got a majority, and acted against the Iran Constitution. Mosaddegh was no saint.

@پیر الکساندر خان Depends on who you ask. A Palistinian would say they're savage murderers. An Israeli would say they are saints. As for the nuclear program in Iran, I think sanctions are a bad idea. Even if Iran is hostile to America, crippling their economy and harming the wellbeing of their people isn't going to make them less hostile. An effective nuclear deal must be developed. If Iran wants to develop commercial nuclear power, I see no reasons why they shouldn't do so. In an ideal world, nuclear weapons would be banned.

The 1st scenario sounds pretty good, it'd have been nice to have Iran as a democratic nation with a strong economy. They could've become a stabilizing force in the Middle East and a strong U.S ally. Lousy U.S government and their anti-Communist paranoia, it caused them to make stupid decisions and create some of the West's greatest enemies in the present day. The 2nd scenario is possible too but I think that there would still be protests against the current Shah in the present day unless he initiated democratic reforms of some kind. While there would probably still be some degree of instability in Iran, it'd be preferable to the current situation where you have a bunch of insane religious nutjobs controlling Iran. Iran WOULD probably still be a U.S ally however and be aiding the West in fighting Islamist terrorists. As it is in our timeline, the Iranians hate Al Qaeda, the Taliban and ISIS anyways and are fighting them, they just hate the West enough so that they won't ally with us since their government is Anti-Western. All in all, America and Britain screwed up royally with Iran and now the world's paying the price for it.

As an Iranian-American, I feel like it is my responsibility to try to show the 2 sides that changes can be made, even today. Call me a diplomat, or whatever, but I think it is always good to stay connected. If I remember correctly, in 2015, President Obama tried negotiating with Iran to stop their nuclear program, and I thought it was a great idea! After years of sanctions, I thought America would be one step closer to restoring relations with Iran, which would've benefitted both sides.... But then Trump... The point I'm trying to make is that negotiations are very essential to diplomacy. Sure America and Iran have very different agendas, but if the 2 nations were to sit down with each other and try to restore relations, perhaps something great could come out of it.
