Russ and the Space Wolves at Terra means: 1. Horus isn't weakened and in a race against time to battle the Emperor before he's consumed by the combined powers of Chaos. 2. No Traitor forces drawn off to Yarant. 3. Lorgar and most of the Word Bearers are at Terra, likely nullifying any advantage in numbers the Space Wolves bring. Also, Lorgar probably would've done a better job of converting Loyalists at the Siege to switch sides than Layak. 4. No time wasted gathering the Daemon Primarchs back to the cause. 5. Maloghurst doesn't sacrifice himself and Horus doesn't lose a piece of himself in the process of coming back. 6. Timetable and logistics are on track for the Traitors as Horus isn't slipping into comas due to a wound. No time is bought for Guilliman and his legion and Dorn has less time to work with. 7. While we don't yet know the full role of Magnus and the Thousand Sons during the Siege, the presence of Russ may result in Magnus being more active and vindictive rather than, so far, leaving his brothers to satisfy his own ends. On the flip side: Russ kills Horus rather than wounds him, Chaos chooses a new champion in Abaddon, who isn't weakened, and feasibly Abaddon achieves what Horus could not. In the end, Russ' actions may have been the best case scenario after all.

This. I think with the the combination of the Wolf King and the Rout, as well as their very specific anti-traitor skill sets, the loyalists would have blasted through the Vengeful Spirit in probably less than half the time. Meaning they would have caught up to Sanguinius and depending on where the Wolves were there would have been potentially Dorn, Rus, Sanguinius and Big E himself all at once. On top of that, Big E wouldn't have had to sacrifice his compassion in order to kill Horus.

If Russ wounded Horus and left him for the Emperor, that might have been even worse for the Imperium. Emperor would not have slain his son in a wounded state, perhaps giving Horus the opportunity to even kill the Emperor, when he would have tried to reason with the arch-traitor. But... these are just "what if's", so it doesn't really matter anymore.

A more interesting what if is: what if Dorn, Sanguinius and the Khan, together with elements of their respective legions, accompanied Russ? I assume that Horus would have been killed, since he would have faced four of his brothers and he almost died facing just one. With him gone the traitors would have been leaderless and hunted down by a much earlier Great Scouring. The most interesting implication is whether or not the Codex Astartes gets enacted, since Big E might have done differently from Guilliman (this is of course applicable also to the what if of the video)

I might be wrong, as it's been a while since I read Wolfsbane, but didn't Russ' forces infiltrate the vengeful spirit somehow? It was from Loken's prior attempt that they got the information needed. If 4 four legions attempted the same ,they likely would have had to fight Horus' forces out right, which would not have gone the same way. Again my memory's not great so I could be wrong.

The simple change of the Emperor surviving any suffered wounds would have been decisive. With the Emperor fully active, the Golden Throne and Imperial Webway likely would have been sufficiently repaired by the 41st millennium to _not need_ constant oversight, thus releasing him for further projects. That is itself sufficient to change the entire scenario.

It's an idea but I think the same thing would of happened. Most of the primarchs follow orders blindly and when horus claimed that the Emperor changed his mind and they were to kill them all, they would of done so without the hesitation and attempt and a peaceful resolution that Russ attempted.

Honestly, I feel like either way things would have largely ended the same. For as much as we talk of the Wolves being the executioners and trained to fight other Space Marines... That was Russ's train of thought when he left, the thing to consider is how they go about doing that. The attack the wolves staged likely employed all their tactical knowledge from past experiences. The current timeline was likely the wolves giving the best performance you would have gotten out of them, Russ took the threat absolutely serious and did what experience taught him was best.

I am currently reading the book 'wolfsbane' and in it, it has russ indirectly save Belasarius Cowl. the station that Horus was resuplying at had Cowl on it. If russ stayed then no primarus

He once said that there are only 2 of his brothers that he can't see himself besting in combat: sanguinius and kurze.. Sanguinius because of his incredible swordsmanship and kurze because of his unpredictability..

9:25 juiced up Horus was a great warrior, but Sanguineous only got crushed because he didn’t have anything that could hurt Horus, and Russ did deliver a devastating blow to Horus when they fought. Honestly, if Russ encountered Horus first, he would be more than capable of surviving long enough for Sanguineous or Big E to arrive. 11:15 when was the last time you caught up on your Space Wolf lore? They are currently the largest chapter, and they purposefully did not make successor chapters. 14:20 come on, everyone knows Lorgar only counts as half a Primarch.

I would speculate in the other direction and wonder what would have happened if Sanguinius and Jaghatai Khan along with their personal guards had accompanied and remained close to Leeman Russ in his assault on Horus Lupercal's Fleet. Chaos blessing or no, it is highly doubtful that Horus would have stood a chance against 2 much less 3 Primarchs.

What if... The Emperor are actually died a long time ago. The 1000 psykers used everyday to keep the Emperor alive was for the golden throne to keep operating, keeping the horrors of chaos at bay. He's done that already, leaving the throne for one day while fighting Horus.

Truth is that a much better option would’ve been their rivals the Dark Angels. They were the second largest loyalists legions next to the Ultramarines, and quite frankly the Siege of Terra needed bodies, which the Wolves didn’t have after the failed assassination attempt at Horus which crippled the Space Wolves legion. The Dark Angels were more balanced in their pursuit for war, and the Lion would’ve been a extremely good commander and had a distant relationship to his traitors brothers. The fact that Russ hesitate in killing Horus showed that the Lion would’ve killed Horus or at least he would’ve lend his legion to Dorn command in the siege.

Horus knows little of the Khan. None of them did. But the Khan knew them all except Mortarion I think the Khan would have done far more damage AND escaped with more forces left intact. Russ is very all-or-nothing whereas the Khan prefers to maneuvere his opponents into a weaker position. Horus' arrogant streak and lack of understanding of the Scars would have seen him suffer a grievous blow

Yeah from what I know of Mongols in real life history... I think the Khan may have ended up defeating Horus outright with his hit and run tactics. I could see him doing a similar 'horse archer' style of war that the Parthians used at the Battle of Carrahe and forcing Horus to end up like Crassus. Not to mention the Khan had more Psykers to battle demons with.

Even better: What if the Wolves and the Thousand Sons had been on Terra, on the SAME side? This could have happened if Russ had followed the Emperor's orders fully instead of Horus's twisted kill order. The XV wouldn't have been forced to chaos and would have helped a LOT.

Don't forget that Horus said that the Emperor had changed his mind and it was a kill order now. Even so Russ tried to contact magnus before attacking to try and talk magnus into coming to terra to explain himself to the Emperor. The real question would be, what if magnus hadn't blocked communications and came with Russ to terra

Magnus was in deep shit anyway, it's not like he made "a little oopsie" after all... the guy damn near flooded the Imperial Palace with Daemons from doing a thing the Emperor *specifically* told him not to do... even if it was for good reasons. On top of this, Magnus and Leman Did Not Get Along Well even at the best of times, so there's that. Still, I doubt the censure would have been catastrophic to the Thousand Sons and Magnus was still kinda needed. He also refused to involve himself in the fighting on Prospero until he had absolutely no alternative so I would imagine of Leman had showed up and told him to "pack your bags asshole, daddy wants a word" he probably *would* have come peacefully and *would* be there for the siege (even if his Legion didn't come with him). The way I see it, this takes Magnus out of the Heresy in general and shatters the Thousand Sons into Loyal and Traitor factions (Traitor Sons led by Azek Ahriman?) which deprives the Traitor Legions of the single most powerful Psyker they ever had, and means that the balance of manpower would have been slightly less in the Traitors' favour with Thousand Sons bolstering the forces of the Loyal Shattered Legions alongside the likes of Raven Guard et al as well as more "Blackshields". With Magnus being there to sit the Golden Throne (delicious and cruel irony, that) Malcador would still be alive and the Emperor would have been available for the siege itself making the Palace a much tougher nut. Either Horus' traitors would grind themselves to a standstill dirtside and get pummeled into paste when the reinforcements arrived, or else having to try his trick of lowering the shields earlier, which would mean that potentially a greater and better-organised strike force would have made it into the Vengeful Spirit. Sanguinius might survive and the Emperor might not have been mortally wounded, the Traitors might have been broken earlier and many fewer might have made it to the Eye of Terror. Perturabo probably wouldn't have had the time he needed to build the Iron Cage so the Imperial Fists probably wouldn't have been as badly mauled and with the Emperor on hand, the Second Founding might not have been a thing, or he would have been there for the debate on splitting the Legions into Chapters (which would have given Roboute's argument the weight it needed to convince his brothers without all the pissing and whining and "Okay but not really" shit). All in all? The Imperium would probably be in a lot better shape post-heresy, and the Chaos Space Marines would be a much reduced threat... possibly to the point that Abbadon's Black Crusades could never take place and the worst they could manage would be "moderately huge" raids and jabs into realspace.

An interesting addition to this theory would be if the word bearers had of been at the siege of terra instead of ultramar then the furious abyss would also have been present. This ship was assigned to the word bearers to ruin the ultramarines, macragge and the rest of ultramar. If they weren't sent then highly likely the ship wouldn't have been destroyed and would've laid siege to terra by orbital bombardment, it's psychonic mines would also have delayed loyalist reinforcements by disrupting the warp. This may have prevented horus from lowering his shields as he could've prolonged the siege for much longer. Russ may have done the imperium and the emperor a favour by doing what he did, if he hadn't done what he did then horus could have actually won

I could swear I read a novel, where the thousand sons planted an informant in the space wolves who would later be their skald, but that this skald was protected by and watched over by a wolf who is from terra, he remembers some of his time there but since it was so long ago doesnt remember it in too much detail. i know this video mentioned how only Fenrisians can accept the canis helix, i believe the novel is prospero burns where there is a terran born wolf.

Prior to the Great Crusade the Space Wolves were originally Terran, yes, but at some point either due to the inherent instability of the Canis Helix or due to flaws being exacerbated due to rapid recruitment to recoup their losses, the Space wolves would find that their geneseed would only be compatible with those from Fenris. This is why the Wolf Brothers chapter would die out, due to being unable to replenish their losses as well as increased numbers of those succumbing to the Wulfen, as well as the Wolves being incapable of creating successors until the advent of Primaris marines some 10,000 years later.

The battle would have been a lot more bloody as the loyalists would have had 2 cqc masters on their side. I can't say if the Battle for Terra would have gone any better for the loyalists or if Sanguinius would have survived, but the scouring would have been bloodier for the traitors.

If russ would have been added to the Boarding party he most likely would have either met up with sanguinius at the bridge or arrived close second. Even if one or both of them would have been defeated, horus would be in no condition to take on Dorn let alone Big E. Meanwhile the space wolves would have torn a bloody path through the Traitor frontlines.

Wolves with their on the ground mobility and Blood Angels with their rapid aerial deployments, with White Scars flanking and causing havoc in hit and run assaults, and lastly the Imperial Fists fortifying and holding ground as they push back.

I may be messing up the actual timeline of events, but if this did happen and the Word Bearers were actually on Terra as well with no real rear guard force. Couldn't the Loyalist reinforcements been basically "surrounded" and if the Emporer actually survived cause of Russ, the Codex may never have been implemented, among other giant changes made by the Emporer still being alive.

I think the biggest change to Russ not wounding Horus, I Horus would not have surrendered himself to the dark god to get out of the comatose state, hence part of him would still be fighting with the god, and they in turn would be trying to take him instead of empowering Horus, thus he may not have been a match for the Emperor, as he was in real timeline.

What if Horus dropping the shield was due to something what happened because of Russ trying to kill him previously? Without that attack he wouldnt do it then so would Russ and the Wolves being on Terra would really make a difference?

Chances are that Horus would be dead, Emps wouldn't be stuck on the Murder-Toilet, and Sanguinius would still be living and the IX Legion wouldn't have to deal with The Rage and Thirst, because Emps would fucking fix that shit
