Exactly! Tom’s interaction with the Ring is one of the most fascinating moments in the story. The fact that it held no power over him and he could make it vanish speaks volumes about his mysterious nature. Truly one of Tolkien’s greatest enigmas! Than you for watching it!

Its was more of an immunity. Its almoat like Tom insults the ring on an existenctial level. Its like "you dont make me disappear, i make you disappear".

Haha, I love that! It’s not just that Tom ignores the Ring-it’s almost like he rejects its very nature. The One Ring is all about control, corruption, and domination, and yet Tom just laughs and makes it disappear instead. It’s as if he exists on a level beyond its influence, making the Ring powerless in his hands. A delightful paradox!

I think it needs to be considered, what would Sauron expect of Tom? One of his blind spots was that he couldn't imagine anyone willing to destroy it. In the mind of Sauron, he couldn't imagine a realized desire to destroy or part with the ring. But, would he understand the ambivalence of Tom? In Tom's hands it simply disappears from tbe field. He doesn't need to worry about Gandalf or Aragorn gaining it and using it against him. Sauron's army is overwhelming. Middle Earth needs it destroyed to remove Sauron from the field. If he remains, he can just continue to endure and send armies at everyone until he wears them down. If Sauron can grasp that Tom will have no interest in using the ring agaist him, he has no need to attack him. Another point is when does Tom gain it. If he takes it from Frodo the council never happens. The Fellowship doesn't happen. They don't enter Moria, Aragorn never goes to Rohan. Rohan remains under the control of Wormtongue. Aragon remains a Ranger, his people tasked at best with guarding Tom's lands. Denathor doesn't loose his son and commands unchallenged. Gondor faces Sauron with no one to come to it's aid. Rohan is pillaged by with it's king in Thrall. Your scenario depends on the actions of the Fellowship happening regardless. But if Fordo gives it to Tom, or if it's sent to h after the council, the Fellowship never happens. Sauron doesn't need the Ring to destroy Men, Elves, and Dwarfs. He can wait without fear of the ring being used against him.

That’s an interesting thought, but Sauron wouldn’t have just ignored the Ring, no matter where it ended up. He didn’t fear someone like Aragorn using it-not really. To him, Aragorn was just another mortal, strong-willed maybe, but still human. Even if a man wielded the Ring, it would only be a matter of time before Sauron twisted their will and brought them under his shadow. The real danger would’ve been someone like Gandalf or Galadriel taking it-that’s the kind of power that might have turned the tide against him. But here’s the thing-Sauron wasn’t the patient sort. He needed the Ring back, and fast. The longer it was out of his hands, the greater the risk that something unpredictable might happen. His whole war wasn’t just about crushing the Free Peoples-it was about getting his Ring back so he could be whole again. If he’d learned Tom had it, he wouldn’t have ignored him-he’d have thrown everything he had at the Old Forest to take it. Speaking of which, if you’re curious about how things might’ve gone if Gandalf took the Ring, we explored that very scenario in another video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaSxgp6IgdeoaaM Thank you for watching and for such a great comment!

He IS Eru.. on vacation.

A fun one, but Tolkien himself said there was no direct embodiment of Eru in Middle-earth. Still, I can’t help but smile at the idea of the supreme creator just wandering about, singing songs and wearing yellow boots while the world burns around him. If that’s the case, I’d say he’s enjoying his vacation a little too much! Thank you for watching it!

Great point! Treebeard is ancient, but Tolkien described Tom Bombadil as 'Eldest' and 'Fatherless,' making him the oldest being in Middle-earth. So many fascinating characters to keep track of! Cheers!

I heard another theory I liked even better about what would happen if Tom would be given the one ring. It was that old Tom would just simply disregard it and would either toss it away or hand it over to someone who asked for it. Tom couldn't care less as it would just be another artifact of no importance whatsoever to him. It would have been a gift to a little child, playing with it for a little while, while after some time would get bored of it and simply forget about it.

Ah, that’s a wonderful theory and very true to Tom’s character! He’s so detached from power and greed that the Ring would indeed hold no sway over him. I can imagine him tossing it aside like a bauble or handing it off with a laugh. Thanks for watching it!

What if Borimer had not succumbed to the rings powers?

Ah, now there's a tale worth pondering! If Boromir had resisted the Ring’s pull, he might have lived to become one of Gondor’s greatest defenders, standing by Aragorn’s side at Pelennor Fields. But the real question is-could anyone, no matter how strong, truly resist the Ring forever? Now that’s a ‘what if’ for another day! Thank you for watching it!

@LordsandLegends5280 had he survived, he might even have felt he was Gondors true king, a point of contention between him and Aragorn to say the least

Legendarium’ is what Tolkien himself called his world-just a fancy way of saying Middle-earth and all its stories. And nope, no AI here! Just a human, with the help of machines-like a trusty old typewriter, but with fewer jammed keys and more blinking lights. Thanks for watching it!

What if? First of all he did. Secondly, Gandalf specifically talks about what would happen if he had kept it for safe keeping at Rivendell . You don’t need to make theories about things specifically in the book
