The first version looked the best to me actually xD the more gruesome direction, more set in horror, rather than just... bongos in a skeleton theme. I'm sure the new version is fun too, but probably more as just a goofy game to be put next to other games featuring skeletons like Grim Fandango and Undertale, rather than in the horror section.

I don't want to contradict your opinion, but I don't think the first SpookWare was horror proper. It's aesthetically horrific, but without any substance behind it, because it's _really hard_ to build dread from a series of disconnected microgames, and the devs didn't seem to prioritize horror over the microgames. It's fine as a two-minute game jam project, but there's no way that it could be expanded without losing what semblance of horror it had. Playing the same game for 15 or 50 times as long as the original would make the dissonance between aesthetic and substance more notable; either you have a bunch of microgames with an increasingly ill-fitting aesthetic, feeling like a horror poseur rather than an earnest fun time, or you have a horror game which is fragmented into bits that can't effectively build tension for more than ten seconds. Neither compromise is ideal.

I originally watched a KZbinr play the Dread X Spookware and loved it, and when a friend of mine said they were gonna stream the full SpookWare game I was stoked. I hadn’t realized however that they had spun it out into a more adventure game, and I kinda missed the fast-paced WarioWare take. Your video makes me realize more what it was doing instead of “why isn’t it like thing before I liked that thing!” I feel like I need to give it a second chance!

You make videos sporadically, only once a month or so...you're still working on the Golden Eye video I assume. In the mean time (if you get the time), there is this filk artist (filk is folk for the sci fi and fantasy novel/movie/tv show communities...but the songs can be about other things too), named Leslie Fish that did a song about Gamers (roleplaying, tabletop, and computer) getting attacked by the Secret Service, FBI, Fundamentalists. It's of a different era (2012 at the latest, but it was a time when gaming were changing), it could have been written 10 years earlier (and might have). Innuendo Studios won't touch it. You could do a short about it.

So, somebody caught lightning in a bottle with a short and sweet genuinely neat idea with good execution, and then wondered how they could make their whole career about this... the correct answer was "don't", like, turning warioware into an adventure game isn't solving the problem of minigame repetitiveness, it's distracting away from it, and I couldn't help but be sad the whole episode as the charm was quickly and painfully bled out from the game because whoever made it just didn't want to let go of the one home run they hit.

"hidden object visual novels" if you are reffering to HOPAs they are not visual novels and inside the adventure umbrella they are mechanically and narratively superior to point and click style while reducing all puzzles to the assortment of classic physical puzzle mechanics is artificial, that's no less artificial than resident evil or prince of persia design. and moon logic puzzles are the worst, it's better to solve another slider than be stuck on obtuse nonsense that makes no sence from the 80s
