Calculations were purely European Continent itself. Only territory, residing people of transcontinental countries were added. (Transcontinental countries are Russia, Turkey, Armenia etc). It's not just about European Union (EU) But in a whole Continental scale.

There are huge cultural differences from California, to Rural West Virginia to the Cajuns of Louisiana or the Mexican American cultures along the Rio Grande not to mention the Native American tribes out west. You can spend a lifetime visiting different communities in the U.S. and hear different languages, different accents, and experiencing different cultures. Virtually every country on earth is represented in some community in the U.S. and while there is some assimilation, they often retain much of the cultural experience and change their new community for the better.

Problem: If Europe United, including russia, it would mean that China Japan Korea Taiwan, and probably even India would unite as Asia. Possibly even more, as the threat from a United europe would be immense. In fact the only reason this hasn't happened yet is because Europe has always been divided for the last 400 years and counting.

@@onetoomany5894 Yeah..no xD English is by far the most spread language in Europe. Every person in Scandinavia,, the British isles, the Benelux speak almost fluent English. In most other countries there's is some to great understanding of the English language...it's an obvious choice really. German isn't spoken outside the countries where it's the mothertongue...same goes for French, Italian and Spanish(at least in europe). SO the only language possible to use as a lingua franca in Europa, perhaps with Russian as second best as most of eastern Europe either speaks it or has been heavily influenced by it in the past 100 years or so.

Rey Nemaattori actualy, german has a majority as motherlanguage in europeans. many countries learn english, native manguage and german. also don't forget: people in italy, austria, switzerland, germany, france & eastern neighbouring coungries to germany, all talk some form of german in some parts of their countries. like, tirol (italy), strassburg (france), etc. it's like 100mil. people who talk german as their native language in europe. while english is only the natuve language of the uk, which isn't even part of the EU soon. but again, languages can be equal. there's no need for a main language, we don't have a main language here in seitzerland neither.

It's not enough to be "united" , the method of unification matters. The US is supposed to be a federated system, with each state having a large amount of autonomy. California has a different culture than Kansas, not so different as between Austria and Italy. But even this small difference translates into big problems when one culture imposes its will over others using a strong central government... As the US becomes more centralized it is actually becoming more brittle. Strong but brittle. The EU, because of its diversity, would need to be more federalized, less centralized than the US. It looks like it is going the opposite direction.

I would say Vienna could become the Capital, considering it's largely central position and it being considered the cultural capital of Europe. Other choices might be Berlin because of it's political power and it representing the divide between Ex Iron Curtain and Western countries, or Prague for some people feeling nostalgic for the golden city. Cities that fall off the possibility list are Rome (though home of the roman empire, it's not as relevant as it used to be, not having neither the political importance, economic power or population), London (too far west, and though economically the strongest city, people would not agree the capital be in the British Isles), Brussels (being the EU capital just because of the politics at the time of the EU forming) and Moscow (too far east and no one would want the capital situated in Russia [except the russians and pan slavists], even though it's the largest population wise)

@al rode I don't think that's a very good example. Not only is Germany reasonably small geographically but the Germans had the same language and largely a similar culture. Even so they had to unify partly by force. China has unified and broken up time and time again throughout history. It is a large land area with very diverse cultures and groups of people. Divisions lead to internal strife and eventually it breaks apart and "civil war" is on the menu again. Europe is extremely divided with historical hatred between peoples going back for thousands of years. Unifying Europe is like attempting to unify two positive or negative magnets. Sure you can do it if you apply enough force but there will never be any bond between them and as soon as the pressure eases they will repel each other at force.

I am right wing, however i realize that in order for Europe to be relevant, the USE will need to happen. Look at the demography, European countries alone are insignificant in terms of demography save for a handful such as Germany and France. Iam for an European Unification too. But iam pretty sure, some Countries would want to stay independent. Oh and Russia would rather want to stay alone too. They are a big Country on its own and for some is the Though-process of Unification to become stronger, a Sign of Weakness. So Russia would for sure not want to be part of this new Mega-country...not as simple Member atleast^^

I think a United Europe would have to have multiple capital cities (like South Africa) each responsible for a different part of government. Paris, London, Brussels and Moscow are the obvious choices but Strasbourg, Frankfurt am Main and Luxembourg City could also all be chosen. Maybe they would want to chose some in Eastern and Southern Europe too to be more representative, in that case Warsaw, Lisbon, Rome, Sarajevo or Athens could be chosen. Switzerland is not in Euro Zone, but is in the EU , since they are part of most of the main EU treaties. (Something like 20+ EU treaty and 100+ special agreements) Britain will be much less included than switzerland

No, your all doing this wrong, it has to be in a place where there is lots of space, so we should build it some where in one of the 5 biggest countries (Russia, Ukraine, France, Spain or Sweden). Only Russians would want it in Russia, so thats off the list. Ukraine is kinda, you know, to close to Russia. France is nice but it's already kinda full of Small little towns, so that wouldn't work. Spain is full of nice landscapes that you couldn't possibly want to ruin. Sweden, that's it, it's a bit north maybe, but the people are happy, not much landscape to ruin, mostly because most of the beauty are closer to places where there already are cities.
