The Minimal Mom - I’ve loved watching your videos but this disappoints me... I’d like to ask you if you truly would’ve paid money to join a Facebook group when you were a stay at home mom with limited income? That’s who watches you, those of us looking to be inspired and lifted up since most of us are home and need this interaction. I don’t understand how this differs from any other group and it feels like just a way to make money... Plus that’s an expensive fee to be paying monthly. You were very relatable as a Christian mom who wants to be conservative with funds and material possessions but sadly, this has changed my perspective so I will be unsubscribing. I wish you the best but this was a mistake.
@JanuaryLisa
@JanuaryLisa 5 жыл бұрын
RN A - she does still have a free group, and these videos are all free! This is just ONE option for those who want to join. As a conservative who believes in capitalism, I respect the choice Dawn and Tom have made to do this, and hope you don’t unsubscribe over it. They need to have an income as well, and perhaps increase it during this season of home improvements. The new group will increase their workload, as daily videos are now on the schedule. This new adventure is a legitimate way to earn income, and feed and shelter their family. Unsubscribing because she created a group you won’t be joining makes me wonder...since she’s not charging for this KZbin channel, why do you feel so strongly? She still has plenty of free content, and they’re not doing anything *wrong*. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s difficult when people do things we don’t “approve” of, but I do hope you reconsider. 💚

I have saved money by hanging on to clothes. I don’t follow fashions. This summer I needed a particular item and found exactly what I needed in an old drawer. Another time I thought I had donated a rare style of coat. I missed it and regretted giving it away. Then, I found it in a black garbage liner in my closet. It hadn’t left the house after all. I was so relieved. I came across an old shirt recently and I’ve put it back into rotation and I’m glad to have it because it’s between being a cardigan and a lightweight shirt. *Finding out that non material things like spirituality have become more vital to you now that you’ve purged your house is great.* I also do pretty much wear an uniform and use a capsule wardrobe. And, I’m doing the “no buy” year this year. Everything I’ve needed was already in my house. Handy. Thank you.

I know I’m late with my comment but I just wanted to give you my thoughts. I think if you’re going to ask for payment or compensation, you need to provide a product or service. Paying to join a fb group for the sake of having a group seems a bit odd. I usually buy a course or coaching service and then there’s a free private fb group that comes along with it. That’s what I suggest you do. I can see you doing consulting. I know you don’t want to do a course but your topic/niche would work great as a course. “Minimalize your house in 30 days.” Something like that. Each week there’s a lesson on what to do in different parts of the house etc. provide customers with a step by step plan, worksheet, checklist or something along with a fb support group. When it comes down to paying for something people want something tangible.

Sonya L I agree with you. I got jumped on for a comment above for saying so but this page took a wrong turn for me. I think a monthly fee to chat or watch videos or whatever, is the opposite of what I’m trying to do right now. Minimizing is about cutting out excess (including expenses) and this is just adding one which is why it’s confusing to me. Still not sure what a group could provide that other free content cannot, but I wish them all the best.

Honestly it takes so much time to admin a social media site, if you want to read comments, reply, interact at all, she needs to be able to give up some of her time she would spend earning income. I don’t understand why it would upset anyone, although i do understand why people wouldnt want to or be able to subscribe to a paid site. She still offers a fb group for those who can’t or won’t pay and youtube. I’m a member of a free site where admin can spend almost no time and I’d definitely rather pay a few dollars to have it well run, if I had the choice (many members have expressed the same idea, asking for a paid and a free version) And since Dawn here is offering her time and experience, it doesn’t seem unreasonable to me.

Hi Dawn and Tom. I recently found your channel and it has opened my eyes so much. I have been feeling like I'm always trying to catch up, I don't do a good enough job and basically drowning in stuff. I'm a stay at home mom of two boys ages 3 and 7 and a carer for my partner. Things seem to be getting to much and I didn't know what to do until I discovered simplifying and minimalism and your channel has been a breath of fresh air. We moved over 2 years ago into a smaller house so had to downsize our belongings quite alot but I have recently noticed that we have far to much stuff for our needs and our home. Especially toys! Oh my gosh. Your toy videos are amazing and we have just started tackling that area of the house. It is going so well and I'm feeling better. My boys have been helping and are on board which is so lovely because I thought they would have a hard time with it. We still have a way to go but I feel a little lighter. Thank you so much!! Also I love your simple home decor taste, I am a little indecisive at times and then I end up not liking my final decision. I really love your dining table by the way. Take care and I look forward to more tips from you guys. Samantha

He only has one Facebook friend (maybe two now) who added him to the private group he joined. This way he completely avoids the drama and distraction that so often defines the Facebook experience, but is able to participate in the communities there that he needs to. Just an idea!

I slightly disagree with it being "easy to replace" because there was a time not long ago that $9 for a replacement cord felt like a hardship... Even when being gazelle-budgeters and Dave Ramsey fans. However, I've learned that I could live without [our hand-me-down] electric piano for at least a while, along with almost anything else. I've also learned that shopping for things that aren't groceries, takes up precious time I don't have a much of... There's a spot between feeling like I'm a middle class citizen and acknowledging that I'm actually poor. And that spot makes it really hard to decide what is clutter and what is an insurance policy. I don't need _____ now, but in 2 years, 5 years, 8 years, I KNOW I'll need it. What if it's a hardship to afford in the future too? I'll be kicking myself for having de-cluttered it. On the flip side, I have a whole 18-gallon tote full of cords I haven't needed in years. Karma says the week I get rid of it, I'll need one. And if I keep it, the cord that breaks won't be in that pile of replacement parts, anyway. My husband made a rule in our house: if it gets de-cluttered, we WILL NEVER purchase it again, under any circumstances. Which I mostly agree with.

We were helping out our daughter now raise 3 of our grandkids. Anyway,we pulled in anew 4 bedroom module. Filled it with what we thought we needed at that time. Have lost 3 parents and yes our shop and home filled up. Now our grandkids are grown married and here we are!!!!! All I want to do is small garden my chickens and I am so over whelmed!!! I finished our Master Bedroom this past month & the Computer Room. I just finished the computer room yesturday and I broke down crying. My husband asked me what was wrong. I am finished, not out of happy tears but exhausted tears. Taking a break for this week and get back at it the end of next week. Daughters Birthday "Day's" parties are coming up this week.

@@rondap.328 I live with a Mental Disorder the same one my mom had. I just look at this as bettering my mental condition. My mom did the same thing once but she literally threw every thing out on the front yard. I laugh about it now because I want to do the same thing but when she did it was a total disaster for my father that I had to get under control for him.

Dawn, Tim Young has a group/teaching platform at Small Farm Nation. He is also a marketing guru like yourself. He has free podcasts but a limited membership group he calls the SFN Academy in which he teaches folks how to market and manage their small farm businesses. I have often thought you should do some sort of academy like this as well because you are very clear and very easy to follow and I love the pace and practicality of your videos. If you want to commit to something like this, you would be excellent at it! Yes, Tim Young does offer courses, but most helpful to us are his podcasts and videos and in the academy (which is a limited, paid membership) he offers one on one coaching to help the members in their own pursuits (hence the limited number). Maybe a chat with Tim would help you set some sort of paid mentorship group up in your field of interest. He is not a fan of facebook, and he has a podcast on why he took his membership program off of facebook and set it up on a website. Just a suggestion to get you started since you may run into the same Facebook troubles he did. Or you may not. 🤷‍♀️ Thanks for all your free content so far! You have been so helpful to our family! -Emily

I don't have any problems getting rid of stuff I don't use or think I might need one day, but I have so much trouble getting rid of sentimental stuff. Like baby clothes, bottles, blankets, cuddly toys! I even told my husband one last baby and then I will definitely say goodbye to this baby phase, and let go of all the stuff, but that baby is now 18 months and knowing this is our last makes it even harder.
