I disagree that people eating more lose more weight if all the other factors are similar. For myself I have noticed if I eat 1000 calories or less I drop weight fastest. If I eat 1,200-1,450 I lose weight too but at slower pace. If I eat 1,600-1,800 I maintain weight and if I eat over 1,800 calories I gain weight (unless I exercise a lot).

But you will plateau eventually then your metabolism will be shot. You will gradually eat more after you hit your goal weight then what? Then you will gain weight back and you probly lose muscle too not true fat

I have been eating 1200 calories a day since March 18th this year. To date I have lost 30lbs and intend to keep this going until I am at my goal. It’s very easy and all cravings slowly vanish as the weeks go on. I consume these calories in a 16:8 pattern which for me means eating between 9am and 5pm and fasting from 5pm until 9am the following morning. Simples.

@@marialuzuriaga6233 that is definitely not my experience lol. I stopped dieting and gained weight. I don’t find it hard to eat 1200-1300 cal a day, it’s just not what I prefer. I’d rather have around 1600, but I don’t want 20 extra lbs since my joints are already weak.

@@marialuzuriaga6233 every time I get pregnant I gain the recommended 25-30 lbs once I get on my 1,200 diet I lose the weight and then go straight into my maintenance calories and don’t gain any weight back, your body does get used to the 1,200 calories so at some point you stop losing at the same rate but that doesn’t mean it stays like that forever once you stop your calorie deficient you go slowly back to maintenance and your metabolism readjusts. That being said if you very overweight there is no reason you would need to go so low as to 1,200.

1200 calories a day is what I ate for as long as I can remember. I never felt hungry after eating 3 meals and a snack. Most days I eat rice, potatoes and meat and veggies because I'm southern and that's what I ate growing up. After that I'm full! Sometimes, I even skip breakfast because I'm not hungry for it that day. I don't know I'm just unusual I guess but I've always been thin even after having 4 children eating that way. I know if I ate more than 1200 calories I would gain. Thanks for good video!

Then what I'm hearing is to confuse your metabolism. Like muscle confusion when working out... you trick your muscles . In this case, you trick your metabolism. Instead of doing 4 days of 1200 calories a day, you do 3 days and then switch to 2000 calories a day for 3 days and then back to 1200 calories a day. That way your metabolism never knows what to expect and doesn't have time to slow down. In my research this is called "CALORIE SHIFTING" I am planning on calorie restriction for the purpose of weight loss. I appreciate your video information and your knowledge and will take what you have offered on my journey with me. Thank you.

This is what I did except I did it differently. I ate 1200 a day for 6 days then I had one cheat day where I consumed 3000-4000 calories. I lost over 100lbs. I fell off the wagon for a bit and maintained the weight but now I'm back on the wagon and losing weight again. I think your suggestion may be a little smarter than what I did though, so I may try that out.

I'm currently aiming for 1485 cals per day to lose weight. I didn't start doing that, and I ofzen go over. Woth my hieght, age, body type, etc all calculated for that's a moderate deficit. I do track my vals and macris daily. I usually go over on cals, sometimes getting over 1600. I do that by going over my goal in protien. My goal forprotien is a min of 100g per day. I've gone over by as much as 50 -60 g some days. I have limits on fats and carbs and I try my best to stay under on those. For fat, it's 105 g daily and 35 g net carbs daily. I do 15 hr fasts, and a 2mad meal structure, no snacks. This Cal and macro rutine keeps me from being hungry while doing a adiquate deficit for my 5'2 curvy 36 yr old insulin resistant hoshimotoes suffering mom bod. Y bone structure is mostly petite with a broad pelvic and shoulder structure for my size. A flat tummy is impossible to achieve at a healthy weight because of my body type and I have always been insecure about that but am rational enough to not let that rule me. My irrational goal weight would be 115 pounds but I'm not aiming for that because I'm over 90% sureid have to be malnourished close to if not at tge point of anorexia to get that. So I'm aiming for the highest healthy weight as my current rational goal and will Re evaluate once I reach that if needed. I'm sure 125 pounds would be pushing it, and 120 might be too far, so 115 is definately a no go weight, but adream based on irrational insecurities than I'm gonna vice but not follow. Admitting ones faults including insecurities and being honest with oneself I find is a positive step to fixing ur probs and is good fir one mental and emotional well-being. And I totally agree that cals and macrosdont matter if ur eating the wrong things, and if ur eating the right things they still atent as big a influence as what u eat and other habits.

@@vikingingunn thnx. I kinda have mental health issues that cause a bit of dissosiation. So I as a result van easily seperate emotions and insecurities from my rational thinking. Sometimes it a blessing allowing me to recognize faults to work on them. Other times it's a burden, like when my survivors guilt from trauma conflicts with my rational ability to recognize I did everything in my power to prevent the ending that happened and the failure to prevent it eas because of systematic shortcoming from gov agencies (cps) to prevent things working out the way they did. Having a war within ur own mind isn't very fun in that instance, but on my physical health journey it can make things easier and allow me to rationally asses bad habits and changes I need to make and do things logically without emotions overriding me with doubts and insecurities blocking my progress. It's messed up how sometimes severe mental illness making me mentally disabled can with the right circumstances be a positive thing. And yeah, most people vant detach their in securities and feelings tied into them from their rational mind. In some situations that's a positive, but if it hinders u that's a prob. And step one to fixing a prob is admitting there is one. We all have insecurities. Most of us have at least one thing about our looks we are insecure about no matter how healthy or confident we are. Some let it tear them down, some choose to use it as motivation to change and improve. But let's be real, humans are imperfect and inherently flawed and so we will always have issues we need to fix as individuals and as a collective. Nothing changes if nothing is admitted, both within and without. Thnx for the support though. I figured voicing the things going on in my head that I'm sure other struggle with would help others here.

I’m only 5’2” so it’s different right? I’m shorter so I don’t need as much food right? I ate 1200 calories today and feel fine…the last 5 days I ate only 800 but I raised it up. (I was doing a fasting mimicking diet) I find that my energy levels are fine so far. In fact I have a lot of energy. Note I’m also taking supplements and vitamins. My food choices are high nutrition organic. I’m not eating wasted calories very much. The type of foods was never my problem. I was eating the recommended healthy diet of someone taller and bigger than me because I find no nutritionists specializing for overweight petite people. They always expect me to do the math I guess.😂 I’m sick of people telling me to stop eating junk food and sodas. I never do!😂 Being overweight when you exercise everyday and eat the recommended amount for years is very frustrating. Doctors say I’m healthy but then tell me cut out foods I don’t even eat. I’m figuring this out on my own now. I’m gonna do 1200 with 1-2 days a week at 1400 cal for a while and see how it goes. I have a lot of self control. I don’t see how my body is starving when there’s plenty of fat stores to use. And I don’t think the science evenly applies to everyone the same.

If you are shorter around 5 ft and lower in weight, your BMR will most probably be around 1200-1300 calories but for most average women which most probably this research based on will have a BMR of 1400-1500 calories hence they can’t go on such a low calories diet as 1200 as it will definitely mess up their metabolism as just to keep the body organ functioning while at rest with no exercise in a day, this people will need 1400-1500 calories

I am only 5 foot 2 and have been eating 1200 calories for years now. I have no health issues and my weight is healthy. Petite women such as myself have always been compared to the 'average size women' about 5 foot 4 or 5 foot 6 the thing is that we are not average we are much smaller & do not need the extra calories. In fact when I want to lose weight every now & again if I feel I am gaining I go under 1200. It really is height dependant! Some people may need to eat more depending on their activity level. But if you're an average petite woman who is moderately active. 1200 is plenty.

If you are eating less calories than you are burning off you'll lose weight. Eating more than you are burning you'll gain. I lived on 1200 a day for a whole year (with the exception of a few cheat days here and there when eating out or going for drinks. But not too often) and I lost 3 stone I went down 4 dress sizes. But back then I didn't gym this was like 10 years ago when I joined my fitness pal. One thing is I've never gained loads back because I started to go gym like 7/8 years ago and I am very consistent with weight training etc so now I've gained in size but it's muscle and I look bigger and I am say around 8 pounds bigger but I've managed to shape my body and grow my bum, legs etc with gym so I can eat more. My dress size is at a stable uk size 8 to 10 still But if I eat over a certain amount of calories even now I'll gain weight so its easy for me to gain or lose as I feel like but it's facts that calories in v calories out work's. Gaining muscle means the body will burn fat off quicker. So yeah you can go gym or exercise at home etc and up the calories a bit. Join my fitness pal it helped me many years ago 😊

Everything is okay but how aren't you talking about how to decide how many calories is needed. Not every person can be categorised into same calorie levels it depends on their weight and height so basal metabolic rate. We can't blindly say 1200 is less or 1500 is okay.

Your maintenance calories will depend on different factors. You can estimate using a calorie calculator online, though it will always be an estimate. What I would do if I wanted to know my maintenance calories for example is to track my calorie-consumption for at least a week (preferably more) while my weight is stable. Though even then, that number would be based on my current diet and lifestyle, and if I changed my diet, I might find my maintenance calories would change as well! So unless trying to fine tune the weight, I would focus less on calories and more on the actual food I’m eating especially because it may impact how easily my body stores fat. I explain more in other videos :)

Not feeling hungry even while eating very little can also be a sign that the metabolism has slowed down. So I would be careful with an approach like that. Because if you hit a plateau doing this, there's not much more to do, right? How little can one eat, right?

I am so frustrated. I weigh 234 lbs. I have been seeing a nutritionist since December. I have been a habitual under eater for years. If left to my own devices, I eat around 750-1000 cal a day and have for over 10 years. I also work out 5 days a week for 1.5 hours. The nutritionist upped my calorie intake to 1200 cal, I eat 1200 cal a day. Under 50 carbs, and 100 g protein. I am consistently gaining about a pound a week and I am so full I feel constantly sick. This is the 7th nutritionist I have seen and none of them have helped. I am so upset

Too little. I'm 82kg and my calorie intake at rest is 1800. I cut 500 calories to 1300 to lose weight

I went through something similar, I used to accidentally eat around 900 cals daily on average (I wasn't tracking nor trying to lose weight, it was just the amount of food I thought was normal) and I was bordering on overweight. After getting into nutrition and working out, I started trying to up my calorie intake on purpose to reach healthier levels. Started eating around 1300 cals daily and more protein, bc I used to eat VERY little (I'd say around 20 g). Found myself with more energy and lost almost 10 kg despite eating more. This was around a year ago. Carbs arent the enemy, 50 g is extremely low carb, that diet might be the root of the problem in my opinion since you'd be indulging in more fats than if you had a higher carb diet. I'd say more complex carbs, fiber and fruits would be better. I'm no expert though! Just based on my experience.

@luca194 @starshine9836 Since writing this post I have worked on increasing my intake, on one of my last nutritionist appointments they really spent a lot of time telling me carbs are not the devil, I have now increased to 1300 cal, 90 carbs, 80-100 g protein and I am losing roughly 1 lb a week. Its so hard for me to wrap my head around eating more to lose weight, but it seems to be true

@@ritakay5864 That's awesome, I'm happy for ya! It's such a weird concept but it's true, eating more DOES help. I'm guessing it's a metabolism thing. Keep it up, you'll notice your energy levels will improve a bunch as well

I am 5ft, and I cannot lose weight on more than 800 cals a day. I take vitamins every day. Currently on the borderine of healthy/overweight, but "obese" with body fat %. 1200 a day would bloat me out!😂
