Maybe Windows 10 has very little punishments, because if you take a deeper look, you'll notice that windows 10 is kinda overrated. What I try to say is: •Windows 7 has a purely for desktop UI. •Windows 8.1 separates desktop UI on the desktop and tablet UI on the start menu. But windows 10 has a lot of inconsistencies (trashing warning): 1. Desktop UI and tablet UI are mixed 2. There's bloatware on the start menu (also the start menu sucks in general) 3. Tablet mode just doesn't work: On Windows 8.1, the pinned apps tab and all apps tab on the start menu can be accessed by sliding your finger if you have a touchscreen, but on Windows 10, it's just buttons on the top left. 4. There are duplicate apps on Windows 10: •Microsoft Edge + IE 11 •Paint 3D + Paint •Groove Music + Windows Media Player •Settings + Control Panel 5. (I don't this is an issue anymore) being begged to upgrade to the latest version

I think the reason for the lack of penalties from XP to 10, in part may be as he said, to get as many Windows users as possible, but I think thats a small part of the bigger reasoning, back when XP ruled, they essentially had no competition, now it has 2, Mac & Linux, Mac's upgrades are free or under $20, and Linux (Mainly the Debian, Mint & Ubuntu) are completely free, and due to small installation size, and no Bloatware, in a speed test outperform Windows, while using barely any Ram, leading to a better experience, and many programs have a Linux option, and for the ones who don't, the Linux community has developed a very similar free alternative, overall Windows changed tactics because they have strong competition, and they lost a huge market share, because they are no longer THE option, they've become just AN option, so they can't nickel and dime you anymore, or they'll fall further behind.

@@khoroshoorange that isn't literally true. There are some games that still wont work on linux. Like halo mcc. Or any game with anticheat software on it. So, most users of linux still have to do vms to play them. Which for some games can get you kick or even ban for using that (if you try to hide you using vms and what not). Most battleye games fall under this category. So it is definitely better but it is not every game. Hopefully it does so I can finally never have to use a windows vm/ duel boot again. Mac on the other hand. Ya. Good luck.

But linux is definitely a alternative and some cases better than windows (looking at you windows updates and what not). Like, everything works on linux at this point. The only exception is honestly gaming. And even then about 90% of games out there works. Like I have a sample size of about 1000 games and less than 30. Prob even 20 does not works on linux (prob even less than that). That is insane. To how it was before. Before protondb was a thing. So ya. Again, there are shortcomings but it is def getting there. And there is a very easy situation to deal with that. Vms. Which almost everyone does that if they use linux to game. Or duel boot for the 3 games that truly dont like vms (battleeye games).

What I've always really disliked is how the claim would be that the *software* is "not genuine" or "counterfeit" for a real, unmodified copy, instead of making it clear that the key is invalid. You can make a Windows 10 virtual machine with a Windows 10 license and you can make copies as long as you only run one virtual machine at one time, running them simultaneously would be considered piracy or theft under some law, depending on your country. I'd hate to mess with Microsoft's Lawyers, that's why I moved to Linux, open source is available and affordable and nobody needs to pirate because it's usually free, the only applications that cost are more enterprise solutions you'd find in Data Centers and MSP environments. Windows manufactured OS paywalls just to use their operating system, which is scandalous, Google chromeOS was built from Linux as is Android. The windows phone didn't do too well, but I think eventually they will make a compelling phone, just as long as it isn't built like windows 8 😂

QUESTION: The 64-Bit version of Windows Media Player does not Rip CDs anymore. I tried the 32-Bit version of Windows Media Player, and it does successfully Rip CDs. I did a lot of research online and tried all the factors such as changing the "Target" in "Properties" and making sure "mp3" was at its "Best" setting, and making sure the "Media" features were turned on and making sure the "Default" output was the "Music" folder. Everything is fine - that is probably why the 32-Bit version of Windows Media Player works properly. But, why does the 64-Bit version of Windows Media Player simply "close" the moment I click the icon to rip the CD?

to not activate linux? i think you mean linux paid support which only a few distros have mostly enterprise focused and server focused. The OS will not change but when you run into an issue whatever it might be maybe a package for your business is not installing correctly or not linking to your windows machines in the way you need. Paid support can get you the answer faster than free community support but to that most enterprises will have a linux IT guy for that to keep all the linux machines up to date on security patches and the ones that need to be on as close to 24/7 as possible able to do so

Ubuntu does spy on you (or used to) and so does Deepin, with Ubuntu specifically they send your search terms to Amazon. With Deepin, in one of the updates, they were collecting telemetry or something from their repository store all though it was then removed. Also do keep in mind the company behind Deepin is funded by the Chinese government (since they are based in China) so its really suspicious if they are secretly spying on you.

I really like your explanation of the fact that Microsoft is trying to punish illegal copies of Windows less and less. Yet gaming industry still doesn't understand this: If a potential customer doesn't have money, they won't pay for the product, and it really doesn't matter if they are playing your game pirated or not at all. Piracy only is an issue in games the have online multiplayer modes. You can't access the game servers in a pirated version. Single player only games work fine.

There's a similar issue going on with CAD software as well. Dassault Systems is so paranoid about piracy that Solidworks has been given an active DRM program that tracks usage and license status, and they will go out of their way to go after anyone who tries to pirate Solidworks. And when they do, the user has two options: buy a subscription license at a massively inflated price or get sued into bankruptcy. Autodesk isn't as anal about it but they still get really pissy over "unauthorized usage" i.e. using a personal use license commercially. Meanwhile Siemens doesn't seem to give much of a shit about it. They might go after you if you try to use SolidEdge personal edition commercially and they catch you, but they don't seem to go out of their way to do so. The big kicker for the CAD software industry, however, is the absolutely bullshit pricing and license models. Autodesk doesn't offer any perpetual licenses, Fusion360 Enterprise is about $500 a year and Inventor is about ten times that, and while Fusion 360 for Personal Use is free, it's still a yearly license and they force you to use the most up to date version, which generally is increasingly stripped down over earlier programs. Dassault is worse with their subscription licenses, but they do offer perpetual licenses - Solidworks is either $100 a year for personal use or you have the options of either $2500 a year or $5000 one time for commercial. Siemens provides a free personal use license for SolidEdge and a commercial license for around the same price as Solidworks, and also sells NX for $10,000 perpetual. As a result, if you want CAD software for professional use you basically have to either be loaded or part of a large company. It's really difficult to get into CAD software as a startup company - there is a free license for Fusion 360 specifically for startups but you have to apply for it, and Autodesk will only grant you that license if they think you're going to be some up-and-coming industry-changing revolutionary enterprise.

MIcrosoft would rather have people using a non-activated Windows 10 than any previous version of Windows. It's easy enough for someone to run a legal Windows 7 or earlier. Best I can do at this point is Resource monitor(look it up in the search bar on windows) and download ProcExplorer(download it) runs as soon as windows starts so I am able to shut down specific resources for monitoring. Shut down anything that says telemetry for starters, turn it all off. That at least gives you some sense of comfort but I think they are lying and still recording even after you turn it off. Disconnect all microphones, they are listening and they admit this in their TOS you signed on installation. They also gather the first 34 mb of data from the webcam everytime it runs and sends that to microsoft. Look into the MCU for x86_64 chips and you will see how bad it really is. There is an OS under your OS, a 486 CPU that runs on your system that has complete control and there is ALMOST nothing you can do about it. Sime groups have been working on flashing a new BIOS to it so it can not have access but the main CPU is so reliant on it there is only so much you can shut down. Dude, I know it sounds like conspiracy theory stuff but its all true and has been admitted. Windows 10 has a built in Keylogger that watches everything you type, it records all sounds and 34mb of Webcam data every time its used. They also regularly scan your computer looking for any video or music file you should not have that do not have the proper DRM. IDK man, its really bad and there is not much that can be done.

Here's my (long) point-of-view as someone who do pirate windows: Majority of pirate users are home users that a) don't have money for it b) unwilling to pay money for it. I easily fall into category "b" for any pc/laptop I have for non-professional use, and I don't consider myself a thief (as I do always buy licence for my work pc)... Companies or Professionals don't pirate Windows. Not only they face far worse legal penalties if they do, they are also far easier to track; both by governments and by Microsoft. They also *make* money from the OS, so its way more convinient to just buy the licence. 1- I am completely "unwilling" to buy Win7/10 licences for pc/laptops I merely use for web browsing, text editing, watching movies... These "tasks" are all perfectly doable on Ubuntu. All Win7/10 offer as bonus is familiarity and habits, they just can't take my money for it.. If Microsoft so much as "ask" me to buy licence, I will just delete Windows and make the final transition to Ubuntu, which I already use as a secondary OS.. 2- Ethics.. My netbook came with XP, my laptop came with Vista, and my other two pcs have legal XP64 and Win7 licences.. I didn't "rent" the Windows licences for 3-5 years, I bought them. If Microsoft stops supporting my licenced OSes, I feel I (ethically) have the right to install any current Windows version I want. I would have REALLY preferred using the faster WinXP on a decade old netbook, but XP has serious security flaws never got fixed... Its Microsoft's wrongdoing to stop supporting WinXP at an "incomplete" state from security point-of-view. Its their a**hole company policy to actually spend time&resources and develop security patches for WinXP-based POS devices but not making it available to average WinXP users... In return, I feel no ethical obligation to (re)pay Microsoft to buy "newer, better looking, but feature-vise same and way slower" version of their software just for security concerns... 3- Pirating windows is too easy; a matter of downloading a software and clicking exactly 3 buttons. Microsoft doesn't even care if I've pirated it when I use windows update... Its so easy that I feel Microsoft deliberately allows pirating (for reasons I will state below). Afterall, its the OS, with direct access to whole hardware, had they wanted, they could have easily made pirating impossible.. As in even the greatestest hackers on the world can never do it levels impossible. As to WHY Microsoft relaxed and actually tolerate software piracy?? IMHO, its quite obvious due to some statistics... There is no technical advantage for Windows over MacOS or Linux. Only real advantage Windows has over the others is it's uncontested market dominance. Today, if a company has to develop a very complex piece of software like Adobe CC or CATIA or Proteus or 3d Studio Max, OS having the ~80% market share is the only obvious choice. They just can't waste millions $ to port it to an OS with tiny market share.. Companies don't mind it, they already pay 50,000$ for volume licencing CATIA, they can easily pay 3k more for Windows Enterprise licence. THAT is exactly where Microsoft makes its money from.. However, globally speaking, 57% of Windows keys are known to be pirated.. Since Windows has 79,46% market share today, that means 45,3% of ALL desktop OS maked share is actually pirated.. If they force the issue, majority of these people will move away from Windows, and Linux will look like a good enough alternative for many people... Imagine what will happen if Linux's market share rises from today's 1,7% to merely ~30%, broadly rivaling the legal Windows market share (34,2% as of today). Imagine a scenario, software developers actually develop Linux versions of their games and software... Imagine if everyone could (reliably) use Linux for relatively advanced tasks like gaming, video editing, CAD design.. Then there would be no reason for companies like, say, HP to pay for Windows; They will just default to Linux, cut 60$ from the price tag and Windows becomes an extra (paid) option for "obsolete" users.. Enjoy the power of defaults.. It is a clear doomsday scenario for Windows and market share is the ONLY obstacle before this transition... By NOT switching to something else other than Windows, WE, the pirated Windows users, do Microsoft a favour worth billions of $s.. We ensure Windows to stay dominant desktop OS, so they can use it to their advantage and demand money for it..

Former pirate who decided to go legit, grew with xp onward (no windows 8, just from 7 directly to 10), and my take on the easing of penalties. Back in the day, my family used to only have one PC that slowly moved from tower to hand-me-down laptop (again, we only had one) and whenever something happened to it (let's say lil me installed a virus that forced for an OS install) either my dad or a friend/neighbor/relative of our family would repair it or reinstall the OS. Here's the catch and the problem. The catch is the OS would be installed by some common tech savvy methods such as personal CD or thumb drives or whatnot that have been made into installer drives, which is kind of sketchy if you don't know the source. The problem is they never had almost all the time a way to reactivate Windows because they never had keys or didn't know or simply they're just too expensive. Many households around the world who have family shared PCs or just hand-me-down PCs don't have the financial ability or the knowledge to properly repair a device in case something happens to it (like a child who installed a furious cocktail of viruses for free minecraft - true story), leading to usage of gray-area OS installers and never knowing about activation keys or how to use them, leading to no matter what, the devices to never be activated, because the kids already broke the PC to the point we had to ask someone to fix it to not pay a fortune to a tech company to use it, not even knowing if there was a key or not beforehand and never getting any activation keys later on. The issue's not just that. There are many pirates out there (or just legit users without a key) who circumvent the activation process JUST TO SAVE MONEY. Because of the financial struggles an everyday worker has who have to pay for a lot of living expenses, paying for activation keys for your PC knowing it works just fine for what you use it daily is just a stupid reason to waste money, money used to maybe buy some groceries or toys for the kids or just pay your bills and even save for a getaway with the family. Knowing that and wanting more users as much as possible, making their OS the default for so many devices, and bringing the pirate mindset and the auxiliary income ya mentioned above, Microsoft lessened the penalties and restrictions to welcome more users. Accessibility is so important when it comes to the consumer base since it dictates your whole business, especially in the IT domain. It's not because of some money hungry corpo shark reason (it's also that but not mainly) as it is just to enable people to use their products. I hope I shed some light on the situation for everyone out there. And remember, the majority of pirates are just poor people who can't afford said programs or features or keys because life is already expensive as it is.

The biggest problem was the restriction of those keys. You could like activate three times and then the key gets invalid. Back in the day reinstalling windows was a thing. I used to do it every 6/9 month or so to get the system smooth again with a fresh install.

I don't see not being able to install system updates as the biggest penalty, like you claim it to be at 5:59 in the video. I have an activated version of Windows 7 and I haven't installed ANY updates for the last 12 years. The first week I got this pc with Win7 preinstalled, I was playing an MMORPG and wanted to run a dungeon, which requires multiple players. It took me an hour to find a group of 6 people to run the dungeon and when we finally were inside for about 3 minutes, Windows decided in the background it was the perfect time to install updates. So it shut down my game without warning or even asking if it was convenient and started to install updates. Since this was the first time, this took a while and I lost that dungeon run and lots of time in the process and my compagnons were a little angry at first but calmed down after I explained it. I was the healer of the group so they really depended on me being there. They had to find another healer to finish the run. After that, I decided this would never happen to me again and I disabled updates completely. Now, about 12 years later, those updates are still disabled and I have no issues running anything on this pc. Except I cannot run the latest game as those require Windows 10. But other than that, everything still works. So I don't see windows update to be that critical as my system manages to run without any updates for 12 years.

Some years ago I bought Windows 7 on sale for 50 bucks on Amazon. Everything looked genuine from what I could see. But after I installed and registered it, I would receive a notice that it wasn't a legitimate copy. However, I found out that if I simply registered it a second time microsoft would seem to accept it as a real copy and the OS would run perfectly fine afterwards. You can make the "Windows not activated" watermark disappear fairly easily with a simple batch file. And even though you can't customise your PC settings while Windows is not activated, you can actually bypass that by either : - connect Windows to your Microsoft account (which will import your settings from another PC with Windows activated) - Use the PowerShell to customise your settings (but no graphical interface of course)

I still use it to this day, but I can say due to certain circumstances I had to wait 90 days before activating my copy and until then, the system experience index was always forced to a 1.0 and hardware acceleration was disabled until I activated, thus it enabled and I reran the index and it went straight to a 4.4

On Windows 10, the telemetry and data collection for selling to advertisers are much more capable and deeply integrated into the system, basically everything you do is directly sent to Microsoft servers and data is power, data is the new gold. Also those bloatwares and ads of games and apps in the start menu and in the settings menu for example, that barely anyone knows nor cares to deactivate. Windows 10 is a privacy nightmare and collects your data thousand times a day, everything you type, everywhere you go.
