I quit sugar for 30 days, and on June 5th it'll be four years in total! I'm 72, haven't seen a doctor in at least 3 years, quit taking any prescription meds, my weight is perfect and I feel 30 years younger! Sugar is the culprit that causes inflammation and disease!

For many years, I intentionally ate lots of 'heatlhy' cereals, multigrain breads, rice and other grains. I had NO IDEA that grain is sugar. Didn't understand carbs. Wound up with heart disease. Haven't eaten grain or anything grain-based in 3.25 years. And zero oils extracted from grains such as canola, corn, soy etc. And never will.

There is a trick though: When people say, bread has a higher glycemic index than table sugar, all they say is that fructose doesn't affect the blood sugar. The problem: long term the fructose part might be even worse. Don't eat anything high fructose, don't eat anything high glucose/starch.

I am on Whole30, which cuts out any added sugar. It also cuts out all dairy. I am on week 3 and my skin has cleared up significantly. You can have fruit on Whole30, and I don’t plan on giving up my fruit. I am curious about the plant paradox, though, as I see it removes potatoes. I am curious if I have a sensitivity to potatoes, so will cut them out for a week or two just to see.

Great video Dr. Gundry, very informative. Have a question. If carbs is sugar, does it mean we eliminate carbs all together? Or is it OK to consume carbs coming from cereals, pulses and any natural form? And when people advise to cut sugar, they do not explicitly mention if we should also cut back on fruits all together or some of these fruits are still allowed? Beetroots, carrots - they too have high sugar. I understand that we cannot list down all food items, but a rule of thumb might be helpful in choosing the right food over the other. Thank you again for your wonderful videos

Basically just look at the glycemic index but more importantly the glycemic load on different foods. Stuff like berries and kiwi have 'sugar' but doesn't impact insulin much. Carrots if used sparingly in a stew is fine, but if you eat it like you do as with potatoes it is not good. Everything should be within a fine balance and impact insulin as little as possible.

Oh dear I don't eat sugar except for a few pieces of European licorice sometimes. I even eat 100% chocolate with 0 sugar But I like dehydrated vegetables and going by the carbohydrate-fiber=sugar means the beets and carrots sugar content is sky high. And millet and sorghum are high in sugar, as are cassava and sorghum flours. Almond and coconut flour are not high in sugar. So maybe I'll be strict and try absolutely no sugar just to see if it makes a difference.
