So all the problems that have plagued Giant-Man in the comics, and the slow, clumsy movements of MCU Giant-Man, actually make a lot of sense. Awesome! I knew about the square-cube issue, and I've thought a bit about the relative decrease in gravity making you slower, but I never thought about slower thought-processes because of the longer neuron paths.
@keithlarsen7557
@keithlarsen7557 8 жыл бұрын
We can over come the square cube problem by making aquatic mer-giants, or giant centaurs.
@ahlpym
@ahlpym 8 жыл бұрын
Keith Larsen Neither of those would really help Giant-Man, since he's strictly human. Also, how would a centaur be better? I get that there are more legs to support the weight, but doesn't the square-cube problem affect the anatomy directly so that bones and muscles are relatively weakened? Would horse-anatomy handle upscaling better?

They could've brought back Paul Rudd for another video on size-changing!
@ahlpym
@ahlpym 7 жыл бұрын
He actually used to be plagued by a lot of those. The strength-to-weight ratio issue especially. Early on, he couldn't grow more that double sized (12 ft) without losing the ability to move, because he became too heavy. It has also been stated many times that size changing so frequently strained his body. Growing was especially problematic, to the point where he had to stop growing for a long time. He had to refine his size changing formula multiple times before growing became safe. In modern comics he seems to have overcome these issues, and can grow skyscraper-sized without any real issues, but it has been stated that his formula doesn't just scale him up proportionately, but actually somehow increases his strength more than proportionately.

If you were a giant wouldn't you be a different species that has evolved to be bigger therefore voiding the square cube law? Same can be said about the Godzilla video he made. If a large creature, giant or monster, is able to grow that big then it must have evolved special bones, muscles, and organs to cope with the ever increasing size of the species.

Nothing wrong with sponsored content, provided it's actually good. If someone makes a sponsored video, purely as a cash grab and puts little to no effort in it, then that's not a video worth watching. But personally, I very much enjoyed this video, though I am legally obligated to inform you that Jake paid me to say all of this.

This is the first time I really don't think the video was presented well. I don't think it was well explained by using paper charts/graphs and the short commentary he had. Where did the paper graphs come from? Where is their proof that they are accurate? It feels similar to watching a feminist video-- as to where they say, Men are the patriarchy... and here's my GRAPH-- that came from and is credible because of NO SOURCE. And THEREFORE, I should just believe what I heard/saw. You "slipped" on this one, man.

What source do you need for the graph? It's god damn basic math dude. Did you skip 3rd grade when they taught you about surface area and volume? Do you need every bit of information spoon fed to you? But congrats on somehow making this video about feminism and then making yourself look like an idiot and feminism, consequently, slightly better.

It seems that people who use the square-cube law to say that we can't be giants don't realise that it only becomes a problem when we still use our own bones as we grow. What i'm trying to say is that a giant doesn't HAVE to have the same bones we do; neither in shape nor material. If, say, a giant's 'bone' were made of metal, or some other extremely strong material, then they could in theory grow to such heights with ease. Of course, that's only my observation. I could be wrong, but I think i'm at least a bit right! =D

The thing is they’re saying we can’t be giants with the same body proportions humans have (not on land, anyway). Our legs would be thicker (think large sauropods), our hearts would be larger, etc. look up Trey the explainer, as he did a video on it. Though an interesting idea I have is that maybe giants with our proportions could be possible not on land, but in water, as water is more buoyant than air, so I could see giants spending most, if not all, their time in water, only coming out briefly and with great difficulty. They would walk through shallow water, keeping their feet to tread the bottom and humanoid hands to grab stuff. They would hunt whales and dolphins, as well as huge schools of fish. Maybe if they lived more than 2.6 million years ago, they would have competed with or even been hunted by the giant shark Carcharocles megalodon. This is all speculation.

This video asks the question "What if you were a Giant?" But, what if we're asking the wrong question? What if the question was "What if you were a mini sized human?" Just throwing it out there. What if being a Giant was actually the normal human size, and we're actually the small? We look at the giants as being freakishly huge but what if it's the opposite. In the long line of human civilizations what if we're actually the ant. We see how tons of volts can shrink a quarter proportionally, and we see how reductions in oxygen supply play a vital part in growth factors. Who's to say the catastrophic events of the past didn't shrink the inhabitants of the earth that were allowed to survive it? In human relativity, one giant to another, might look, walk, talk, move, and react the same way we do amongst each other. Relative to the giant of our ancestors, we would probably be the size of our pets. What if the dinosaurs were the living breathing pets of the Giants who once roamed the Earth? So many what-ifs.

What jake talks about for most of the video is about what would happen if you turned into a giant, where if you have the same strength and all that of a normal human, your chances of survival are not very high. If I'm not mistaken, then the BFG was born a giant with the density of a normal human so he would just live like any other person.
