Beautiful talk💛 And all those comments about young people not being experienced enough.... You do realise that not all adults are educated, let alone experienced, right? Some of you not even able to live on your own. And anyway, she talks about taking youth's opinion more seriously and providing them with resources, not about young people running the governments. Keep you agism to yourself, thank you.

I think young people need to be leaders, not just because they are experts on their own experiences, but because they're the ones who are going to live in the world we all create. They should have a say in the world they have to live in. But also, if they don't have a seat at the table, what are they supposed to do? Sit and accept injustice? No, ignore young people and you get disillusioned youth acceptable to radicalization. Listening to young people is in the interest of global security.
@hannesRSA

So these young people.. are they more aware of injustices? Will they lose that sense of injustices when they get older, and we have to replace them with an even younger generation? Seems contrary to how most civilizations have always worked.

Ask an old person whether they had a clue to govern when they were 25. In Native American communities young men were the warriors. Old men were the decision makers.

Idk. I think half of the reason we're in the place we are at is because we have too many old people in politics. Most of the young people I meet who are serious about politics are far, far more levelheaded, politically and scientifically literate and informed than the majority of old people in political positions I meet. I'm old btw, but I agree with the young folks. A lot of older folks, unfortunately, lose the gusto and will for social change the longer they're in the system, get too caught up in bureaucracy, and lose sight of the bigger picture.Society stagnates when too many old people are in positions of power. Ideally, you want a healthy mix of old and young people at all levels I prefer to just treat people on an individual basis based on their own individual competencies.
@km1dash6
@km1dash6 2 жыл бұрын
That is incorrect. Governance varried in different Native American communities. In some communities, young people were the leaders. Older people were advisors, doctors, or religious leaders. We often think young people think they know everything. I remember being 16 and thinking that I don't know everything, but neither did my parents, teachers, older friends, etc. Adults don't know how to govern either. We often imagine that as someone ages, something magical happens to their brain where they suddenly become wiser and are capable of leading, but if you watch Senate hearings or debates on CSPAN you will see old men acting like children.

@@km1dash6 damn that's a shame if you're not becoming wiser as you age. It's about the only positive thing I can say about ageing. For me it seems to happen without even trying, but it seems to happen slower for those who have no interest in introspection and improving themselves.

@@myjciskate4 The problem there isn't youth or age, it's corruption and collusion. It's the reason we have the most objectively incompetent president in history right now. He didn't earn his spot, backroom politics propped him up there. Ideally the most competent applicant is the one selected through a selection/voting process regardless of their age. That isn't happening now. We only get to choose between two candidates and both of those made who knows how many deals in order to be there.

How about if young people feel this way then they set up their own fundraising activities and get donations direct? Nasra Ayub has spent a good deal of time in the campaign against "FGM", a perfect example of bad funding and misplaced campaigning. In her own native Somalia £ millions have been wasted all the while babies are being cut in NHS hospitals in the UK! The rate of cutting in Somalia has not changed ever since the modern anti FGM campaign started in the seventies despite a long line of award winning Somali immigrants one after the other through the decades.

Age doesn't seem to impact a leader's willingness to step up, issue directives, and provide rewards for performance. In contrast, however, age does seem to affect a leader's openness to change. As leaders grow older, they become less willing to make changes and are less interested in innovation

So, you're saying that funders shouldn't control where they send their money, but instead trust the first young person who asks? So, you're saying that wizer, more experienced older personal should be bypassed and trust some rookie instead? So, you're saying that grassroots organizations SHOULDN'T work hard to petition/request money they didn't earn and instead be given money, which means the funders shouldn't have a selection process and just give their money to the first organization that asks? This girl is obviously a "young person", her outlook is far too narrow and naive. Young ppl should be encouraged to work hard and apply themselves, build their reputation, and by the time they're older they can use their experience to take leadership roles. But they have to earn it first.

Young people have exactly the same flaws as old ones, except that they are less experienced, so it would be just worse.
