Another possibility. We know that the majority, if not the entirety of the soldiers under Azula, including Mai and Ty Lee, served her purly out of fear. So if Zuko managed to defeat Azula in front of them, it might be enough to convince some of them to turn their coats and proclaim Zuko Fire Lord on the spot.

I would love a more in detail version of this that breaks down more of the actual effects. Zuko joining the team early in book 3 may lead to the Earth kingdom never falling. Think about it, Zuko being on their side may lead him to never betraying the team. Which means that we can reasonably assume they take down Azula. Hell he might catch and recognize her early as a fake Kyoshi warrior and stop her before she can team up with the Dai Lee. Also for other what it suggestions some obvious ones are What if Aang was never frozen What if Sokka was born a water bender instead of Katara. What if Iroh was firelord And finally, what if Suki joined Team Avatar early.

Azula wouldn't ever get the chance to attack and capture the kiyoshi warriors if Appa doesn't get lost, plus him being around makes her drill easier to stop so she really ends up with no way to get inside Ba Sing Se and make her play on Long Feng and the Dai Li so yeah she is defeated a lot sooner.

Yo I remembered recommending ALTA What Ifs I’m pretty sure other people recommend this to you as well Like what if scenario I suggested that Zuko and Azula roles were swapped. Azula would’ve been a lot closer with her mother and Iroh would be a bigger influence in this timeline. Zuko would be under the influence of his father. Their relationship would be similar to Darth Sidious and Vader. Azula would still be as talented in the original series but she has to work twice as hard since her father neglects the Princess’s existence. She’ll still be her versatile witty self. But semi crazy, have her mother’s kind heart, banished, confused and with a scar on her face. And also the another suggestion what if What if Katara was the Avatar? What if Toph awakened Lavabending instead? What if Sokka was trained early?( basically a solid balance between his already applaudible intelligence and physicality)

Well considering the world of martial arts there is a benefit to adapting other styles to whatever you may know in order to diversify your skills. That being said in the world of Avatar I would say the best benders and masters would be those who mix certain principles of bending to better their own.

Really enjoyed this. Personally, I want some good ol water bending. I'd definitely be using it more like an earth bender though. I think it could be interesting to see a timeline where Zuko joins just early enough to have Azula hunting Team Avatar instead. Maybe she could have Iroh as a mentor, but I could see Zhao taking his place as her mentor, possibly even forcing him to change because of how cruel Azula is, or they work so well together as to become a truly terrifying force against the new Team Avatar.

Zuko in The Final Agni Kai is a perfect example. I also think Kuvira and Su Yin are good examples of subtle bending styles being implemented in how they bend.

I think it would've been really cool if we got to see more sparring matches between the characters in our main group. I would love to see the way that other characters could've learned other forms to bend with like Zuko did during the fight in the Ba Sing Se palace against Azula. Zuko uses a waterbending stance to form a wave of fire, imagine if katara were using a fire benders form to launch ice, or toph learning to use an airbenders flowing movement to create some wild earthbending moves. Sokka being taught to incorporate bending martial forms in his combat would be another really cool development. Imagine Sokka having such adequate knowledge of the technique and form of the different bending styles that he were capable of having taught Korra her martial arts.

04:18 Actually the Netflix series didn't contradict anything here. Iroh created lightning redirection by studying water benders and applying their technique into his own as a firebender, allowing him to discover an ability that technically every firebender could always do but just required a new perspective. That's exactly what Aang does for Katara. He doesn't actually teach Katara how to waterbend (ironic since in the cartoon she was convinced that he could teach her) he simply takes the knowledge and teachings given to him by the monks and helps Katara apply those same teachings to her own technique as a water bender. I really loved that change because it establishes long before Iroh teaches Zuko lightning redirection that benders can all learn from each other even if you don't use the same element, and the Avatar is a personification of that understanding, being the only one who can learn and master all 4 elements.

#1 You're making the exact same arguement I am by mentioning this, I talk for the vast majority of this video's runtime about the fact that contradiction or not, Iroh's teachings show Katara and Aang to both be wrong and right during ep1 since theybare both overall unexperinced benders. #2 No it litterally is a contradiction, the original pilot aang and the aang from netflix both contradict the rule set in the original aired episode boy in the iceberg that a bender of a different element can't teach one they don't know that informs Aang's need to find teachers for water earth and fire. In the netflix versoonAang says an incredibly vague statement that just uses the terms energy and balance and after hearing that Katara is just immidiately better despite nothing he said being directly demonstated or shown how to be applied, it is not consistent with prior knoweldge or showings of the series and actively contradicts them because now netlfix Aang should just be able to apply the same vague bs when its time for earth and fire it would be just as analogous as him basically teaching waterbending basics with no grasp of them, now he's an even better bender so there is actually less excuse. #3 If you like that change more power to you, but I think it shows a misunderstanding of the power system and a cheapening of the effort it takes to interact with it as a living breathing martial art one has to study and practice, Aang just being instantly able to spirit guru mumbo jumbo his allies into better benders just feels really hollow since its another one of those things the live action has no chance of challenging or evovling past the original with.

I do definitely believe there is something to your idea of mixing bending styles however I don't think it's a straight power amp so much as it is a new way to use your fighting style. For instance toph is about as pure of an earthbender as you can be and she's one of the most powerful earthbenders ever. However adding metal into her repertoire didn't make her more powerful per say it just made her more versatile if you pursue Avatar what ifs I would focus more on the idea of versatility as opposed to actual power.

The thing is though just the increase in a bender's versatility is linked to their overall strength as a bender, everytime Aang or Katarra learned a new trick with waterbending in Book 1 their bending not only got more versatile but also demonstrably more powerful, as Sokka grew more confident and compotent as a leader the Team at its smallest also got more powerful as a group. Also its a bit too reductive to suggest I focused on power anymore than the series would need me to, Avatar is a series first set in a litteral centuries old war personal strength and millitary power are very major aspects of the series that are very carefully maintained and updated, I merely built on the idea I introduced in the original short and its impact on those things. Iroh even says the culmination of all 4 elements in 1 person is part of what makes an avatar so inherently powerful even before we mention stuff like the avatar state, and that beyond that a greater understanding of the world crafting a more whole person and bender would increase Zuko's strength as well since its about of that cultural and spiritual enrichment concept I mention the series touches on, power in this case just referrs to the overall strength one can accomplish with a feat of bending and it is consistently shown that an increase in knowledge and experince increases one's control of their chi, teachings like Iroh's, the White, and Red lotus' also kinda back this. And that Toph statement is also inherently incorrect because we litterally do see her achieve more impressive and powerful feats post learning metal bending as opposed to prior to, I mean inherently she would though she's strong just like Aang its important to remeber we meet Toph very young and she only got STRONGER since then lol. Strength and power are an inherent aspect of bending and the world they will recieve focus no matter what happens, fire is litterally described as the element that represents them as concepts inherently, just as much as change or adaptability (water) grit and stability (earth) and freedom, spirituality, and exploration of the self and the world (air) are too. The point is that Iroh and basically the entire White Lotus getting to be more direct mentors to Team Avatar they would recieve such in increase in knowledge, experince, tactics, techniques, skills, and overall versatility that they would all be apart of a stronger force able to bring the war to an end and beyond that because the story would just be for the most part idealized to a point there isn't much sense in a drawn out narration of them just winning this is neither an accurate showing of what a drawn out Avatar story from me would be like, not a fair critcism at best and a really bad one at worst.

Like he's a good firebender but if part one Zuko can beat him I don't think understanding necessarily equals power. And I'll give you that maybe tough is a bad example but I do not believe that Ozai is that guy is all fire and he is definitively one of the strongest vendors in the series still.

Less a what-if and more a proof of concept for a what-if. I think if Zuko joined Team Avatar early, it ultimately wouldn't lead to that much actually being different. That may seem bonkers, but if you think about it, they'd still go on the same jouney, just with 1 extra person. Or two if Iroh also joins. Maybe Appa doesn't get taken, but they still end up in Ba Sing Se anyway. Maybe the Day of Black Sun goes differently, but ultimately, Aang still doesn't know energy bending, and won't bring himself to kill Ozai

A what if is not only one thing in only one way, if Carthu, Six, and Swag can title something a what if while doing about as much narrative writing or more extremely varied changes to the story as I did here. I don't see why I've gotta be labled the one doing a proof of concept. That just feels needlessly reductive and self contradictory since I feel like you yourself are already noting massive changes lol Keep in mind though Appa's Lost Days and the events of Secrets of the Fire Nation, and the last half of Book 2 really are entirely structured around Appa not being around and Zuko struggling with a sense of self, oh and also Aang not knowing or at least not being willing to use fire bending. If Appa isn't lost because Zuko or Iroh are there to help Toph than immidiately we skip anytime we waste getting out of the desert without him. That means we also get a chance to help even more refugees make their way to Ba Sing Se while skipping Serpents pass on the way there, and the group gets to see Azula's drill far before she gets close to the walls making it easier to stop it and she won't even get the opening of capturing and impersonating the Kiyoshi warriors since the only way they were found is because Appa was being tracked. This also means we don't meet Guru Patiq when we normally would which would change Aang's understanding and control of the avatar state. This also means after we arrive to Ba Sing Se we don't waste any extra time playing politics with the Long Feng and the Dai Li who could probably just be defeated and exposed so the group can come back under control of the earth kingdom and cease the authoritarian avoidance of the war, which also means you'd have reformed Dai Li and probably even Jet's reformed freedom fighters a part of the forces on the day of black sun, the war ending there along would be a massive change to the verse.

Not a series. This is all done as a oneshot. I've spent a lot of time and effort finishing up stories and have done so with a bunch there are more than 5 or 6 anyway. 99.9% of the time a story is on hiatus for writing and visuals quality, I've asked many times if people wamt those things savraficed for speed and frequncy, answer is always no so I don't even understand why this is brought up like a fault. I wish people wouldn't try to suggest what they would do with my channel. I wish people were actually aware of anything about my channel and efforts so when they do this they don't say something completely incorrect. I wish people would actively watch and pay attention to these vids. Like I said litterally at the begining of the vid, I wish one of the most influential mangaka of all time didn't suddenly pass away because its wildly sad AND made every content creator that talks about a subject even mildly inspired or based off Toriyama's work very uncomfortable with making things to profit off his work and death so soon.
