right on thanks brother for your video, i am training to become a freight agent. i realize business is the same no matter where you go. i thohught there was a secret sauce but there isnt. just classic sales so good thing is i am already ahead of the curve but just have to learn the in's and out's of hte industry.

No problem and glad you enjoyed it! that's right: being a freight agent is all about sales. You have to be good at sales, understanding people's problems, listening, why your different.. and once a deal is closed, its all about providing a high level of service: being responsive, being on top of any issues that may arise, making sure trucks pickup and deliver on-time. We highly recommend getting a little knowledge under your belt. Whether it be working as an agent or shadowing an agent. Logistics has a learning curve but its not difficult if you get enough experience.

Vaibhav, Thank you for your question. You sound like you would make a great freight agent. Many freight agents do work from home. Since you do not have previous experience, look for jobs where you do not need to have your own book of business to start with. Good luck out there.

Hi Riz, yes you can, as long as your company has a legal FMCSA authority. The only thing to keep in mind is that there is a level of service that is expected by Shippers, so as long as that is maintained with outsourced help. A lot of successful freight brokerages are outsourcing help for various activities (tracking trucks, finding carriers), but are keeping the customer-facing activities close to them and their on-shore sales people. Hope that makes sense!

In terms of the work they do, it is the same. A freight broker is licensed by the FMCSA and is required to get a surety bond. A freight agent is not as they work under a freight broker for the licensing. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have speficics.

Hi Ezekiel, the most credible program that everyone in the industry knows is the Certified Transportation Broker (CTB) from the Transportation Intermediaries Association TIA (www.tianet.org/course-ctb/). Since broker and agent activities are the very similar, this will give you a thorough understanding of the field.
