Thank you Brandon, I was a truck driver for nearly 23 years and due to a severe side effect from chemotherapy I recently had, I am not able to or will ever be able to pass my DOT physical again. I prayed hard to find a career that I can do from home that I know something about and broker agent came to mind. I am signed up for a class but I'm a nervous wreck! I have never had to call a shipper other than to get directions or an appointment time. I'm not a sales person at all, but I'm going to give it a shot and that is in thanks to you for all of your help and encouragement. God bless you and keep you safe during these trying times. Brandon, this is the best advice that can be given to new brokers and those wanting to succeed. You're right on the money with your approach as a problem solver. What is interesting is that this approach is what works not only in brokering but also in the world of health care: whether selling management consulting services, or getting physicians to support new or changed processes. There is a universality to your words and game plan. Keep it up. More valuable than many will realize until they do it.

I know this was a year ago but I will share something as you so nicely asked. Information is key. Meaning making a blind call to a medium sized shipper, or lack there of Transportation managers/POC. You want to win the client but calling them right away because they use 3PL and almost seems like this should be easy to close it is 100% truth you will be hung up on or moved to the end of the call in less than 2 mins. Anything you can find on Google and LinkedIn first pre-calling I call it I find some key points to bring up that maybe in the news our about us section of their site page again this is a 2 min process. If you want to chop ice you need an ice pic. You need to break the ice with a bit of sharing the great news you read or maybe a merger talks ask opened ended questions and do not speak until you know they are done answering your question. Its general knowledge of carriers falling out and being a back up for a while is great its cash flow here and there but that's winning them over. So as it is always highly unlikely to close the first call with the shipper's POC 9/10 times fact. So call the company and transfer to the sales department they will spill it all. That information I was talking about you get the real deal by asking the call screener "I was hoping maybe you could help me out with something?" They most likely will jump to serve you as you so politely showed them they are a key element of the call now by asking how many loads do you ship per day/week? The screener won't know but you will get a sense if they tell you I see a lot of trucks in and out all day long. 2 things you catch there, 1. Is they do move loads but also all day long? Hmmm.. they must be getting inbound and outbound loads. That's huge! Also you found out you just qualified this prospect without talking to the big guy yet right?. Now like I mentioned medium sized which means millions in freight costs a year maybe $1M-$5M a year so like I said information is key especially already knowing the craziness shippers deal with already day to day. So now you have leverage by knowledge. Do not forget to ask for their extension and how to spell thier name if you cant find them in a free LinkedIn account I use premium because its almost guaranteed to find you POC but you still want to make sure the name and extension cross references perfect. The very next day you are loaded to call them. Here is where you ask a couple qualifying questions that make sense and not a waste of time as if they are small potatoes because that call will be salesy and you are gone blow it. Just like Brandon's method of example get to that point where you can get them to tell you how you will be of value to them as a benefit. That's smooth and witty. But you also want to mention that you want to male sure you guys are even a good fit. That will throw them back and they will think of ways why you could be a good fit. Now with this said you have boxed them in for the close. Meaning filet the fish right there. Simply say I am sending you over some information and something for them to sign so we can get the credit line established so when it's time its freight rendered already with a credit base set up and you must continue to ask every one of your customers daily every morning what do they have that needs to go out because if you dont and in the beginning of the partnership they are not enabling you updates of what they have you need to ask for the work quote it immediately as it comes in and win the loads. Until you have a great trust built up you wont see freight piling up in your inbox to quote just wont happen. So break down. Information is key, asking the right questions to the right people will get you right with that relationship. Be smart but you dont need the shippers personal story in the beginning and they certainly don't need yours keep all of that personal questioning out be a professional and stay consistent. So with that This video with Brandon very good Logistics Executive as you can tell is giving you guys prime time help here and as to a great broker Brandon is I want to be of service as he kindly asks in this video and I hope that meshing what we both have said can help 10x your business! For now it's back to Brandon! "Dropped the Mic"!

Honestly, most shippers don't listen. That's a good way to speak their language and get in the door with a solution based recommendation. Even with that open ended question if they aren't interested they will quickly tell you, "Oh we're not interested." "We're customer / vendor routed." " We're slow." Could you make a video about how to address common objections.

Thank you Brandon, I have been searching for little under a year are so for this exact type of topic on "how to talk to a shipper" theirs really not a lot. So this was just overall the best one so far and loved your motivation gestures. I'm new at this, kind of been just letting my broker license sit in for a good 6 months are so before I start trying to step forward and while in mean time, educating myself by watching video's and reading feeders, comments on facebook , youtube, and books on freight broking. I did try my first cold call out to shipper and I literally froze more then once and I would start off by explaining what I can offer and that was always confusing to me because I'm new and I feel like I cannot offer much so yes, I would freeze up every time but it is exciting. I’m 23 & I started freight brokering with my brother about 3 weeks ago. Coming from car sales and being very successful doing so, I thought coming into this would be much easier. I jumped straight into it and called about 725 people. Booked 1 load. (Should be more but customer went on vacation) and I would say I’m getting a decent amount of quotes to run. With a maybe 5 different businesses. Although that sounds great, I think I could have been much more efficient if I knew which commodity needs what kind of truck, equipment, loading etc. etc. Another problem I’m running into is it seems like most of the shippers I send quotes too, ESPECIALLY LTL. They all just go with the cheapest freight they can get, when I’m confident I can provide a smooth top tier service. What I have been doing when making calls, is just being myself and doing everything I can to ask a bunch of open end questions. I feel like I give off this vibe to them that I am new but extremely confident and motivated to work and make sure everything goes smooth. And it’s somewhat been working. Although I have only made $220. I think it’s safe to say I have a decent clientele I follow up with and talk too. Just waiting for “busy” season.

This video was exactly what i needed! It literally gave me chills because just when i was feeling overwhelmed on where to start i came across your video which explained exactly how i have been taught to do it the basic way and now you have opened my mind a little more. I am new to brokering and just starting out so ain’t nothing to it but to do it! I love the informative information you have provided. I will be watching more of your videos because you give me confidence! Thank you 🙏🏾

Bro'... I admire your determination and positive vibe... Cold calling sucks indeed but it's the ugly secret of the beast... If I may suggest write down that clever script of yous in the description...if you don't claim copyright infringement I'll use it too...hehe...
