Judging by some of the posted comments, there seems to be some doubt as to what constitutes a valid macrobiotic meal/diet. I strongly recommend reading any book written by George Ohsawa or Michio Kushi, two respected Masters, for help in clarification. Macrobiotics is more than throwing things into a pan for a nice taste sensation. It is an art, a science and a medicine, combined. Something worthy of study - it even saves lives. Best wishes.

Kindle has "Essential Ohsawah" which gives a nice overview that can be used as a reference. Denny Waxman has many excellent informative videos as well.

yeah but sprouting or fermenting grains and legumes and veg on a whole is how you digest plant nutrients properly

With respect, one third carbohydrates, one third vegetables and one third proteins is not the standard macrobiotic diet. Please read the book. Thanks for keeping the subject alive :)

I thought the macrobiotic diet was 50% grains, 25% beans, 25% vegetables?

HI Bob, Thank you for your question! Laura Christine, a macrobiotic educator, provided this video for the Healthy Life Project, and have taken it as a cue in food preparation. On behalf of the Healthy Life Project, our philosophy is to increase the amount of vegetables in our diet, as Dr. Joel Fuhrman recommends "salad is the main dish", the 1/3 portion incorporates the philosophy to increase vegetables. and beans to even it out. @@HealthyLifeProjects Thanks so much for your response! What do you feel is optimal so far as fats are concerned? I didn't hear much mentioned so far as the use of oils, nuts, seeds, avocado or olives? For a heling diet I'm guessing no oil, no nuts, maybe a little bit of seeds? Balanced diet allow for these more freely? Is there a percentage of the diet that is felt is optimal with regard to fats? Thank you for all you do! Be well stay safe💛✌🏼

I studied Macrobiotics at the Kushi Institute for a year in 1986, worked for a macrobiotic counselor for years and taught cooking classes for years. While it’s not a rule people are fanatical about, you are correct that grains are suggested to be at least 50 percent of the plate, sometimes a little more. Vegetables were often about 25 percent with the other 25 percent or 15 percent being beans and sometimes a seaweed dish. And beans aren’t eaten at every meal. Breakfasts were often all grain and some other meals did leave out beans. I don’t think it’s the end of the world if you make the ratio as suggested in the video, but I wouldn’t do it regularly myself.

Everybody is.. phytic acid Ninfa to mineral making all who eat beans nutrients deficient lol.. grain contain glutens and lectins.. macrobiotic diet =leaky gut syndrome.. you need carnivore..

How is this combo automatically a complete protein ? Many vegetable offer zero proteins. The grain and the bean must be a certain kind to be 'complete' protein.

Vegetables have 1-2 grams of protein. If you consume 300g (raw weight) that's 3 to 6 g of protein. The bulk of proteins is coming from grains and legumes.
