In my math notebook from my junior year of high school I ended up making a lot of small doodles (though shockingly I wasn't a bad student or a particularly avid artist), and one of them that I distinctly remember making was a pencil-and-eraser reductive drawing of the Carina Nebula, which at the time I was rather proud of. Thanks for bringing back that memory! (Also, the existence of a "Manatee Nebula" makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside)

To be honest (having an astrophysics background), after seeing the tile; I glanced at my keyboard because I expected I was going to have to write a long winded thing with corrections that most would not appreciate but I'm happy say that i'm quite happy. Perhaps the only thing I would say is that a 'White Dwarf' is (most probably) not a 'final state'; it should become a 'Black Dwarf' or a Blackhole, or a Black Dwarf and then a Blackhole.
@bumpsy
@bumpsy 2 жыл бұрын
how would a black dwarf turn into a black hole though?
@LENZ5369
@LENZ5369 2 жыл бұрын
@@bumpsy Not on it's own, it would have to acquire more mass probably by merging with other compact (high mass) objects. Hypotheticals about hypotheticals is pretty sketchy but enough (to overcome chandrasekhar limit) white/black dwarfs could perhaps form a Neutron star -which with further merges (to surpass the Tolman/oppenheimer/volkoff limit) could result in a Black hole. There is also the possibility of a black dwarf pushing a massive Neutron star already near the TOV limit, over it.

I got into astronomy because of Star Trek and of course those beautiful pics. Then I got my first telescope and it was the biggest let down of my life. What I saw wasn't even close to tv or the pics. In high school I was able to take an Astronomy course and an apprenticeship at the planetarium. Mind you, this was back in '78 - '79 and I had access to bigger scopes and better pics. I got over the fact that mostly everything appears bluish-white once I understood why. Knowing this, I found a deeper appreciation of what I was looking at. Thank you for this wonderfully beautiful and simply explained video!
