Hmm, interesting one. I would be curious to dig deeper into the reasons for this - is it fear that if they don't do this, the organization won't get enough support? If so, I'd recommend reviewing the whole fundraising strategy as a team and brainstorming alternate funding sources to make up for a potential loss.

We are a small community 55+ snowbird park that oppperate from 0ct until April each year. We come from all parts of the US and Canada, our group is all volunteers, We host dances, entertainment, Cards and games, and pick a couple of causes to support during our season. And because our board members change every 2 seasons. How and who do we open a bank account under, and do we need a EIN number. We winter in Arizona? Please advise

Hi Diane! Based on what you describe (choosing a few causes to support each season vs running your own programming), it sounds like you might want to form a giving circle instead of a 501c3 nonprofit! Then you won't need a board, or a bank account separate for the organization. I know Grapevine is a great resource. www.grapevine.org/
