This is a simple bedside test that can be used to assess blood flow to the brain. Reduced blood supply to the brain can manifest as symptoms like brain fog, blurred vision, and memory problems. the test involves examining the ophthalmic artery, which is the first branch of the internal carotid artery and supplies blood to the eye. By having the patient look at a red target and observing any differences in color perception between the two eyes, we can detect potential issues with blood flow. Additionally, having the patient turn their head can reveal further changes that indicate an occlusion in the carotid artery, which can impact blood supply to the brain.

I super appreciate your ability to deconstruct the assessment process from something that is "complicated" into something that feels "of course."

Dr. K I recently had two group appointments on Zoom with Dr. Wilson. Apparently the big guns meaning the top hospitals are getting together shortly to talk about POTS. I like you because you can think outside the box. I asked my neurologist Dr.Wilson to see if you can be invited or even give a short lecture. I believe you and Wilson have some things in common and we need doctors that can think outside the box. As a patient the template for us patient’s is flawed and I believe you might have something interesting to say. I hope they invite you and can attend. Best wishes your internet friend. Pete

I have loud blood pulsating seems from neck to ear. Will stop after I lay down awhile but is effected by neck head turning.. I have many undiagnosed symptoms. I do have a diagnose of pots but doesn't cover all weaknesses and balance problems.

You will likely need an mri scan of the neck area

in your opinion, are any of your patients POTS due to an end organ dysfunction I.E. Smooth muscle cell dysfunction (underactivity of smooth muscle cell activation due to mutations of kinases responisble for cell contraction) . This leads to vessels which are overly dilated an less able constrict to help with venous return therefore leading to reflex tachycardia/POTS. Another example for this is collagen mutations

Check out ehler danlos syndrome . Weak connective tissue with venous pooling especially in the legs. Hope this helps 🙋‍♀️

@@DaBongo89 exactly, I wouldn’t doubt a lot of EDS patients that present with POTS also have some sort of smooth muscle contractility issue along with defective collagen. I have smooth muscle dysfunction and likely EDS so I have both, it sucks balls

Do many neurologists do this red saturation test?
@becky6598

mine do, but they do a less precise method. Just covering your eyes and asking if your thumb looks the same color. (they're chiropractic neurologists, like Dr Keiser, not regular medical neurologists)
