This is a simple bedside test that can be used to assess blood flow to the brain. Reduced blood supply to the brain can manifest as symptoms like brain fog, blurred vision, and memory problems. the test involves examining the ophthalmic artery, which is the first branch of the internal carotid artery and supplies blood to the eye. By having the patient look at a red target and observing any differences in color perception between the two eyes, we can detect potential issues with blood flow. Additionally, having the patient turn their head can reveal further changes that indicate an occlusion in the carotid artery, which can impact blood supply to the brain.
