I've learned so much from your channel. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and refined skills. Your persistence and refusal to back down, has inspired me in many ways. Keep doin what your doin. I'm staring at a my first Amp. A 1970s golden hooker out of Northern Cali. 1 relay sticks open. Haven't had the stones to tear it down. Wish you weren't so busy! But that's a testament to your position at the top of the pile. Lastly, for 6 months I've been pulling my hair out trying to remember the name of the into track your videos use. Anyone? For my sanity please. BBI got down!!

I used it for a while but too many other people started as well. Get enough people on air with the vfo slide and starts sounding like a space war/star wars out there lol.

If you just switch the Receive radio to upper side band you will hear it without having to inject another carrier. for demo purposes.

If you want am to sound decent on the 7300 you need to trick the ALC. I believe it looks for a -1.5vdc. You can use a 5vdc power supply with a 100K pot and just reverse polarity so your seeing negative dc. Put radio at full output and adjust potentiometer for 20-25watt carrier now your modulation won’t cut out as it does when no negative ALC isn’t present.

Ok...as it's used on a modern PLL rig, it's a noise toy. A noise toy designed to make you sound like you're running a vintage tube set. Before 1970, tube rigs that had 23 channel tunable receivers and 12 channel transmitters were common. As they aged the components' values changed, resulting in the transmitter oscillator taking a few seconds after being keyed to settle on a frequency. Sometimes they would start off-frequency and drift on, and sometimes they would start on frequency and drift off. When that happened it was time to dig through the junk box for another crystal that was better. People who ran Siltronix 1011s had a different problem. These rigs were the same basic design as a Swan, and they were (in)famous for drifting all over the band. I collect and restore the old rigs. Those with separate transmitter oscillators like my Pearce-Simpson Guardian 23 will slide. My Regency Imperial does not. Olson Spotter will slide, Olson Sidebander doesn't. With oldies, it's a crap shoot. But, the VFO slide does make listening interesting.

vfo slide affects communications on other channels. this is why transmitting is disabled till the PLL is perfectly locked. it might be a nice effect, but it's illegal in every country on this planet, and it's punishable by law. as a licensed HAM you should know this.

It's not exclusive to Browning transmitters. Old tube sets that use separate oscillators or crystals for receive and transmit will drift when first keyed up. Most of my tube oldies do it.

I love that effect! I forget who it is, but one guy I hear almost everyday on skip has that VFO slide or at least the sound effect and I was wondering how it worked. Only been back into the hobby for a few weeks after a 17 year break. So much more info these days with smart phones instead of only computers and KZbin instead of just forums. So far my only complaint is the radio technician bashing these days. But it seems to mainly revolve around one person that thinks he knows everything there is to know and thinks he’s the only one that can do what he does. Not naming names but I’m sure it’s not hard to figure out if you’re in the hobby and you’re here on KZbin. I don’t think there is one known tech that he hasn’t made a bash video about. Including D-rail. As far as I’m concerned your work should speak for itself. If your work is that good then that’s enough to bring you all the business you can handle. I know there are some “techs” out there that cut limiters out and really don’t know exactly what they’re doing or have all the proper equipment. But making bash videos of every tech you know about is just juvenile and unprofessional. Keep up the good work BBI! Hopefully one day I can do business with you.
