Awesome video. I'm on another play through for After Life but this time i actually went with vitality perks at the start instead of loot goblin and it made a massive difference. Having high vitality made the mod alot easier especially since it not only helps stamina regen but also slow down the rate of infection. Also same as before i focused on certain crafting goals. Currently on day 11 and got the minibike, baseball bat, forge, work bench and map which i highly recommend folks focus on getting since blue berries can be found easily. Water was never much of an issue if you make a few campfires and take empty jars out when raiding PoIs to collect the fresh water from the coolers or barrels. Same goes for food since eggs and sham sandwhiches make great eatly game meals and with so many animals meat isnt much of an issue. Can't wait to see the tips video.

Knowing that Red Beard used to work on Ravenherst explains a lot. In my opinion Afterlife has the same problem that earlier versions of RH did, mistaking Tedium for Difficulty. Many of the changes the mod makes are very cool and superior to vanilla. That said, if the goal is for a play through to last 200+ hours then additional Content is preferable to Tedious Grind.

I'm on day 60 of AfterLife, a very promising mod with unique and enjoyable mechanics. My only criticism would be the crafting system, any tier 6 armor or weapon takes forever to make, we're talking about a lot of magazine fragments. I to complete the level 100 shotgun today, but to my surprise, when I crafted it on my workbench, its quality was low....even with all the Meticulous points, then I created a save and tested the magazines in creative mode and noticed that even if you reach level 100, you still need thousands of magazines to raise the quality level of all the weapons, that is... the grind is insane.
@SnowBee3 ай бұрын
Yes, that is correct. It is quite a shock to many once they get to that realisation. I think you can get way with 200 to 300 magazines for a pretty high quality on a particular track. Have you tried making paper and crafting your own magazines? I never got to that point, but the ratio doesn't look that bad for making your own magazines.
@yvels36853 ай бұрын

Yes, it does remind a lot of players of UL owing to it various steps for crafting and progression, and certainly the interface. Of course AL takes the cherry on top.

Im playing insane permadeath (day run) and it's a struggle like no other overhaul. on my 25ish restart; so many stupid deaths to a pig or a wolf :(. zombies everywhere; like 10x more compared to default difficulty. must have 3x cooking pots on 1st day if not water is a big issue. making a hole in a roof near a fire and drinking as much as I can while it rains def helps a lot. biggest tip I got is shift+craft to make it priority no1; insanely important when you craft 1 water for 20mins irl. another huge tip: screamers and heat is no more. burn fire as long as you want as many as you need; theres some random screamers spawns but not many. for a horde base: it easy to avoid bulder throwers by staying on a roof and just moving left and right while sniping from a distance; a fence all around and spikes def helps. another tip: repairs, only repair when your item is about to break so you wont lower your item quality too much unnecessarily. another tip: DO NOT make your base inside town; mud zombies spawn quite often and I noticed that when you take over a POI with no POIs around you'll have way less spawns = less zombies to clean for better rest. honey: equip and axe and go to town; cut trees and leave stumps for future honey production. white meat is better than red meat early game so kill ALL chickens. most useful tip for mid-end game: stun batton locks in-place rads; you can only loot it so use it on rads only or hard to kill ferals. very op. DO NOT read fist 5? forge ahead books: destroy workbenches with axe. read magazines after. same for tailoring; save magazines and scrap clothing..etc..

@@SnowBee def dont forget to add into your tips to craft a boneknife (so you preserve your shiv quality) AND harvest ALL zombies corpses you kill. tons of skills involved in corpses harvesting + can scrap bones and use as arrow or bolt tips. to save on stamina do a regular action harvest but looks up, left mouse click then fast look at corpse. easy on stamina and faster harvest. I was annoyed a LOT with zombies all over the place till I noticed I could harvest those and level bunch of stuff at the same time. I had no problem with zombies numbers after that.

just the perks are a bit simple and vitality isn't rewarding enough and building is akward, otherwise the lightning is really nice
@SnowBee3 ай бұрын
I think from my experience, it is the early and mid game that is the struggle. Which is what the dev is trying to do to slow the progression down. However, as you advance, vitality is much easier to maintain. Building is different. I got used to it as time went on. It was awkward at the start and I kept forgetting to put certain things in my inventory, however, that is owing to just never playing a mod with this type of mechanic. I did quite like it after a while.
@TheCybercoco2 ай бұрын
@@SnowBee The planning tool is an interesting concept, but ultimately, does not work well in the 7 Days build system. The neon blue makes it difficult to see shapes well. Forget about trim, as you can't tell which direction a block is facing. Building from floor upward is not possible beyond three blocks high due to the finicky way 7 Days deals with block placement. The lack of nerd poling hurts building in 7 Days for situation like that. Building off ledges is quite a challenge as well. If you're a builder who likes building cool looking bases, the planning tool is lacking. You're stuck with building the most basic rudimentary designs unless you use the creative menu and fly. Otherwise, much too expensive to experiment. Frames work better for experimentation and design. And Redbeard took out windows! A shame, because the decoration system in synergy with vitality is a brilliant mechanic.
@SnowBee2 ай бұрын
@@TheCybercoco I agree that nerd polling is hurt by the use of the AL's building tool. However, I just look at it as a new challenge. It was a pain in my first playthrough to build my horde base. I really struggled, also wasted some materials in building additional blocks to get to parts of my horde base. Overall, I didn't mind too much as I quite enjoyed thinking of how to strategically build it in the end. Still, I know many that don't enjoy it. It has its advantages and disadvantages. I honestly love how you can construct much of the base and see how things will look. I also don't have a problem with the colour of the blocks. Actually have not heard others complain about it either, but I have been a bit out of the loop of Afterlife for a while now. So, maybe it is an issue.

I like how players love Immersion as long as it makes the game harder but okay with a cup of water taking 40 minutes to boil
@SnowBee3 ай бұрын
Haha... errr, 37 minutes, not 40 ;) Yeah, I hear you. I think we can be pretty selective in what we moan about. We do talk crap quite often. I know one Mod Dev who hates the word "immersion", and his mod is one of the least "immersion" friendly mods around for a typical 7 days to die theme. I think very often immersion, or at least the idea of it, goes hand in hand with trying to make stuff closer to reality. A cup of water taking "40 minutes to boil" is only a problem as you don't have enough of it when you need it. If you were easily boiling water at 40 minutes a pop, I don't think we would moan. Also, we have a vanilla game that boils water already at a lightening speed. If there was no vanilla, then we would not think the water is too slow as there would be no benchmark. In fact the mod taking 40 minutes would be the default. When someone made a mod that took 20 seconds, some players would congratulate the modder, while others would condemn the person for making it too easy. Like the dew collector pulling jars out of the sky. So, yes, I think the illusion of immersion does go hand in hand with a game that is more difficult. Actually did you have a question, sorry for waffling on :)

@@SnowBee Source: www.health.ny.gov/environmental/water/drinking/boilwater/response_information_public_health_professional.htm TL;DR: Different pathogens have different inactivation temps, but for most of them it's temperature reached not time spent on boiling water. Mod is inconsistent with it's own rules. cit: "Boiling water kills or inactivates viruses, bacteria, protozoa and other pathogens by using heat to damage structural components and disrupt essential life processes (e.g. denature proteins). Boiling is not sterilization and is more accurately characterized as pasteurization. Sterilization kills all the organisms present, while pasteurization kills those organisms that can cause harm to humans. Cooking food is also a form of pasteurization. For pasteurization to be effective, water or food must be heated to at least the pasteurization temperature for the organisms of concern and held at that temperature for a prescribed interval. The effectiveness of pasteurization is directly related to temperature and time. Milk is commonly pasteurized at 149°F/65°C for 30 seconds, or 280°F/138°C for at least two seconds. A study of the effectiveness of pasteurization of milk intentionally contaminated with Cryptosporidium found that five seconds of heating at 161°F/72°C rendered the oocysts non-infectious. Although, some bacterial spores not typically associated with water borne disease are capable of surviving boiling conditions (e.g. clostridium and bacillus spores), research shows that water borne pathogens are inactivated or killed at temperatures below boiling (212°F or 100°C). In water, pasteurization is reported to begin at temperatures as low as 131°F/55°C for protozoan cysts. Similarly, it is reported that one minute of heating to 162°/72°C and two minutes of heating at 144°/62°C will render Cryptosporidium oocysts non-infectious. Other studies report that water pasteurized at 150°F/65°C for 20 minutes will kill or inactivate those organisms that can cause harm to humans. These include: Giardia, Cryptosporidium, Endameba, the eggs of worms, Vibrio cholera, Shigella, Salmonella bacteria, those that cause typhoid, the enterotoxogenic strains of E. coli, Hepatitis A and rotaviruses. It is also reported that a 99.999% kill of water borne microorganisms can be achieved at 149°F/65°C in five minutes of exposure." If mod creator ever interested in how real life works he would either make this into heat levels making difference [wood takes ie 20 minutes, beacuse it boils 10 minutes and cools down for 10 minutes for pasteurization to occur, but anthracite takes ie 10 minutes, beacuse it boils in no time and cools down for 10 minutes - but anthracite would also have high chance to burn food if cooking skill is low]. Filtering contamination could last longer like one hour but yield water in ratio 1:1. Idk how it plays in the end. I didn't play mod, beacuse lack of logic like this really makes me want to play less realistic mods. Also stoners kind of repel me - how to achieve such a strong mutation in such a short period of time and why would they throw explosives???

@@SnowBee so it's essentially trying to reach the max level? Is that why they include so many options when you are generating the maps?
@SnowBee3 ай бұрын
Well, in this case I am referring to Afterlife in particular, as similar to vanilla there is no story as such. So yea, reaching max level and playing the game at that level. I don't think the RWG includes many options besides the size of various areas/biomes. Those options don't really effect obtaining your max level, however, they potentially give you more diversity when exploring or less with smaller maps. The larger maps also give you more options for potential loot.

is this possibly the new Undead Legacy?
@SnowBee3 ай бұрын
@androjackson480 Hmm, I would have agreed with you when I first looked at it. However, it has more Ravenhearst connections. I think players think UL as it has such a different and innovative interface. Add in some grind, and you think UL. So yeah, I would say Ravenhearst. After playing AL, will probably think UL is too easy :)

I bet afterlife is a lot harder on requirements. I have an i9-13000k, 96 gigs ddr5, but only a little nvidia 3070. I can play close to maxed on vanilla but horde nights cause some jutter. Surely with all the graphical beautifications afterlife is harder on systems.
@SnowBee15 күн бұрын
Well, you pc is faster than mine, however, I do have a 4080. Whatever the case I am usually fine with frame rate... sometimes it bombs, but most of the time I am playing on ultra, just one or two settings I lower. I also only play on 32 max horde nights, and I am not finding horde nights a problem in performance.

@SnowBee3 ай бұрын
Hey MadDelirius :) For the manual option you download the latest version from the AL discord, it is 0.2.9 if I recall. The latest version from your Steam 7 Days to die should be the 1.1 stable, so you don't choose any beta option. As you are using the mod launcher, it should work with the latest stable 7D2D that ML will use from your computer. Just don't choose the beta option.

Man I really wanted to like this mod but it slows down progression so much that it felt boring to me. Idk maybe I need to give it another try because it looks really cool and they are some aspects I really like.
@SnowBee3 ай бұрын
Yes, I understand your anguish. It is not for everyone. Maybe take a look at a later point when some tweaks are done. However, I know redbeard does have a particular vision and view of what he wants in the mod, and that won't change. So time will tell :)
@darkage53 ай бұрын
I quit watching a lot of the KZbin channels that make their living doing 7 days to die videos. They all play in Vanilla which is beyond boring. Even the hardest setting is boring and way too repetitive. All of them should be branching out into mods like this. Yeah they can come up with all the challenges they want but why not just make videos in mods which give them both. I would go back to watching if they played Afterlife. One thing though. Do the glas jars disappear in this mod like they do in Vanilla? Oh did you know Kane was talking smack on you in his live stream about how quick you release Darkness Falls information? It was a couple videos ago between the 10-15 minute mark i think. I thought it was funny.
@SnowBee3 ай бұрын
The jars work quite realistically most of the time in Afterlife. So, boiling water or making a higher level drink you usually get the jar back. I think the only time I noticed a definite jar being lost was when I threw a molotov :) Yes I was watching Khaine's video :) Yeah, all good :)

unfortunately highest difficulties are often vert unbalanced because those cater only to a tiny fraction of players. Im on insane permadeath (day run) in afterlife and I struggle af! on my 25ish restart already. But yeah I dont know noone that play Afterlife on higher than default settings.
@yvels36853 ай бұрын
@@lostsanityreturned its a good editing but a bit lacking tbh; he's on default settings and he's way too op for the difficulty he plays on; it's actually boring and it feels he's also over it.

some source-balancing at start are annoying. For example 6 meat from deer or chiken will cooked to 1... it is not real at all... all about make you life harder... or crafting a 1map = 50 a sheet of paper... Why so many? ext... In sum up: the mod si cool, but source-balancing are boring((

This mod probably one the worst i play, the "grind" takes way too long is not hard its just long to actually being enjoyable. U like to build? pointless most late game horde shot from range even if u are out of sight which make melee complete useless bases plus bases itself. 50% time spend mining other 30% waiting for the forges so u turn them off so u dont need to go back to mining cz u lacking fuel once again.
@SnowBee3 ай бұрын
Yes, many don't enjoy the grind.

@@SnowBee oh dont get me wrong i love grind games most my library goes around that, problem is is not enjoyable in this mod. LIke afterwards the grind is kinda worthless idk if u know what i mean
@SnowBee3 ай бұрын
Yes, I understand. There are a few mechanisms in place that take the fun out of the mod. With the forges, I tended to try put the exact amount of fuel in so that I didn't waste the precious coal, etc. It was not great to just leave it smelting owing to the wasting of fuel. I also didn't bother with a base that much, owing to the maintenance of it.

What is Afterlife mod? yet another copy-paste "overhaul" mod that makes the boring gameplay into a little bit of different boring gameplay. Vomiting for example should not remove all of your thirst and hunger bar, most of the hunger sure but less of the thirst. Weight and slots are an issue as is, why to make it even worse? absolutely no point. I mean this overhaul is better than lets say something like District Zero which only added robotic creatures and new tier tools which were worse than the vanilla steel ones anyway. So many overhaul mods are just lame.
@SnowBee3 ай бұрын
Which overhauls would you consider are not copy/paste?

First time I stopped play Afterlife was after i found that boiled eggs require infected water. It was night, i was hungry and i had eggs and water but no infected water. I deleted the mod in few seconds. It was A21 version, maybe it has changed, but it doesn't matter.
