What is Amiga Forever and what can you do with it?

This video talks about using Amiga Forever, using the included files for other emulation systems (MiSTer) and how to add your own games to it.

Sorry to flood the comments but oh, the nostalgia. I started with the Commodore 64. My uncle turned me on to MIDI composition software........ placing each note in score fashion with a joystick, using a Casio CZ-101 and Casio HT-300, both of which were multitimbral. I spent endless hours composing symphonic soundtrack music. The CZ-101 had a RAM cartridge; you could buy floppy disks jam-packed with excellent patches, transfer them via serial/MIDI into CZ-101 cartridge. However, I really yearned for a much tighter system clock, which was why the Amiga was a must-have, but productivity was hindered by price for such software as Bars n' Pipes....... the fact is with the Commodore 64 I could do what Jan Hammer was doing with the Atari ST :) GREAT SHOW, man.

I had the 500, a 1-MB Agnus, the audio sampler hardware/software, DCTV, SCSI hard drive in case that slid onto the port on side. I LOVED it. I owned Imagine 3D and DeluxePaint, made $2300 in 4 days creating 3D graphics for laser-disk based testing for military medical training. I paid $285 US for my first 50 MB hard drive, and some astronomical price for the 2400 baud modem. The most AMAZING (goofy, really) thing I'd done with the 500 was booting up a real Macintosh emulator, on which I also ran a PC DOS emulator :) It was actually 100% the Amiga with which I gained the experience to create a unique job title, hired to work in a DoD support group in the management of the entire electromagnetic spectrum. The Amiga was just underappreciated.

I remember copying games such as Monkey Island into the RAM disk, and leaving the Amiga on to be able to bypass load times from the hard disk. One of the advantages of having an insanely updated Amiga with plenty of RAM. (I had an A1200 with one of those BlizzardPPC expansions, and a lot of RAM (for the time) installed on it. There weren't a lot of PPC games with 3D acceleration to use it with, though. I remember playing NAPALM by ClickBoom, an amazing RTS. If the Amiga had survived, it would be one of those well known classics.

If you’ve got a MiSTer, the prebuilt environments in Amiga Forever make for a quick and easy Amiga setup for the MiSTer. I took the Workbench 3.1 setup, copied it to an empty HDF file and moved that to my MiSTer. I just had to run your installrtg script to get everything looking good on the MiSTer - up and running in maybe 10 minutes.

I agree, it's a great idea plus you sidestep any legal issues using this as you've got licenses for the software. Thanks for the comment and I'm glad my disc helped you out.

@@allyourbasekris I dreaded the floppy disk sound usually ended with NDOS and BADBLOCK errors appearing very randomly . Not a joyful experience...

I bought an Amiga 2000 when they first came out. How in the world did I ever put up with the load times on games??? Often losing all your lives you had to go through the entire load time again instead of starting over.

What are the keys on the keyboard? Can u just use the keyboard and mouse to play games? I could move side to side when playing Deluxe Galaga but I couldn't find a way to shoot.

That’s Workbench 3.9 from Hagar & Partner according to that build number? I would want 2.0 and 3.1.

Get benchmark it on A4000 😁 pls

It benchmarked at 6.51 x faster than a stock A4000 with a Dhrystone score of 118904 124.11 mips and 27.64 mflops. For reference it's 97 x faster than a stock a1200 and 224 x faster than a stock a600. Those are untweaked out of the box settings so you might be able to get faster although I doubt you'll need to.
